I wonder if Cork v Laois & Meath v Clare would be a double header in Thurles

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,660 ✭✭✭elefant

I agree but at least Galway are a division 1 side and might make it competitive. Cork offer nothing.

Galway will also have to beat a division 1 side to get to the quarters.

    Any venues yet?

    Interesting!

Only near racing certainty that jumps for me is Tyrone to beat Cavan. Other games be close, and well Mayo/Galway! Could be one of games of the season.

    Super 8s

    Dublin
    Roscommon
    Cork or Laois
    Cavan or Tyrone

    Kerry
    Donegal
    Galway or Mayo
    Meath or Clare

Holy jaysus. It is tough to get excited about the top group.

Group 2 could be very tasty indeed.

Shock of the summer...Cavan to beat Tyrone...or is that shock of the decade. :)

Cork's route to the quarters will have been hilariously easy if they beat Laois.

Get relegated from division 2, beat the team who came second last in division 4, lose to Kerry then beat a division 3 team. And into the last 8 of the championship.
Dublin vs Cork in Croke Park in the opening super 8s game. Probably empty stadium. Great stuff....

Agreed, but at the same time if we assume Tyrone get over Cavan, they won't fancy Hyde Park v Roscommon after the league game. Roscommon could target that game and could throw a surprise in.

Pigs will fly before that. I'd say Cavan players are booking their holidays now. Tyrone always beat us, they even knocked us out last year as well. And they'll beat us in the u20s too. Tyrone will just stick their 15 men back and break with pace. Naive Cavan will not be able to stop them.

Unfair to expect Cork fans to travel all the way to Dublin for a "neutral" Croke Park game. This is the one weak point of the Super8s, the game in Croker. Its a good idea on paper, but playing on front of a half full stadium serves no-one.

This is officially Dublin's home game not the neutral one

    Sorry, yeh you are right.

(We won't mention the neutral super 8 game)

The likes of Cork have done **** all and will probably be in the Super 8s. And get hammered by Dublin. They need to level out the playing field they have a massive advantage over Ulster teams.
Cork have terrible support as well they won't even bring an atmosphere.

So, Cork.......tell us what you really think:D

Cork to be fair made a game of it against Kerry and with a bit of luck or belief could have won it. They had plenty of possession but made some bad decisions on front of goal. Then again the Kerry defence weren't great so its hard to know if Cork are improving or not.

Does anyone know what the H&S issues are that clones is reduced to 29k?

I think one of the main issues was a barrier between the Hill and Pat McGrane stand which has been remedied.

Christ, the first group is going to be poor enough , Dublin v Cork in Croke Park won’t exactly set the pulse racing .

Should Cork and Meath win their games, each group will have 1 team from each province, won't be often that happens.

Group 1 will be fairly handy for the Dubs. 2nd place to come down to the Ros-Tyr opening game, but would be surprised (but delighted) if Roscommon win that one.

2nd group will be harder to call, esp if Mayo get through. Donegal should get through, 2nd spot not easy to say.

Are semis group 1 winners v second from 2 and vice versa?

Does that mean the capacity will go back up next year? A lot of bollocks that stuff, the GAA lost out on a few thousand extra fans for Ulster final.

Dunno... a lot of politicing involved too I'd imagine...the pro Casement v the pro Clones camps.

Its Antrims fault they let Casment go to ruins before the new one was built. Be in Clones for a few years yet.

From a neutral perspective, when you look at the super 8 fixtures and likely groups it's going to be rubbish. Some dead rubbers and hammerings coming.

Dublin Tyrone Kerry Donegal nailed on for semi finals. And Dublin to definitely win it. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Should never be moved from Clones.
    No atmosphere in Casement.
    Clones is it’s traditional home.

In Connacht, we should have built our own Clones on a central greenfield site 20 or 30 years ago, instead of pouring millions on piecemeal upgrades of grounds in every county. If we had we wouldn't be talking about playing a Galway-Mayo qualifier in fcuking Limerick

The problem with that is where would you build it? For example, if it was built in Mayo and Connacht final played in Mayo every year, then you would just have the same argument as Dublin playing in Croke Park. Mayo would have always have home advantage. You could possible say "Build it in Leitrim" as it might even out things a little. However, Leitrim is not exactly convenient for the majority of Connacht teams......

Plus I find Casement a disaster to get into and out of after games....

Mayo v Galway the tie of the round, Cavan getting the one team they didn't want and Meath getting the one they wanted. A good chance for Laois to reach the last 8 i'm not convinced about that Cork team at all.

Last year the All Ireland finalists came from one group and i wouldn't be surprised if history repeats itself this summer with the same two Tyrone and Dublin reaching the final once more.

Wasn't Hyde Park earmarked as the Clones of Connacht in the 90s?
