am I right in saying that some teams could play 5 weeks running by the end of round 2 of the super 8s? Mayo for example if they qualify? Down, Armagh, Galway, Round 1 and Round 2? That'll take a toll. The break in the super 8s should nearly be after game 1. But then I suppose you’d have 3 games in a row then until the semi finals.

Tyrone played 5 games in 5 weeks including round 4 in blistering heat in Portlaoise last year. Seemed to get stronger as the games went on. For likes of Clare, Laois it would be issue. Tyrone and Mayo no.

There will be at least 15k from mayo alone
Not sure how many Galway will bring. But their hurlers are out so don't have that excuse not to travel........Id say we would be looking at 18-20k

Cork vs Mayo in Limerick round 4 two years ago had 13k.

Depends on venue. Hyde and it might top 15k, Thurles, Limerick, Clones on Saturday evening probably won't.

The hurling support is fairly separate. They don't follow the footballers at all for the most part. Maybe 5% of a crossover.

If it is fixed for Limerick, you could possibly get some more hurling fans than usual traveling to it. Limerick is very accessible from south Galway and they have nothing else to be at this summer!

I think TCD is actually a Galway man.

It was, but Galway and Mayo blocked that proposal.

Not true.It was earmarked and redeveloped around 92 with terracing replacing grass banks in 3 sides. They also rebuilt the stand 10 years later. However its a kip and falling down.

Galway and Mayo blocked it becoming the permanent Connacht final venue .

Well that makes it even funnier.
The football and small ball folks really dislike each other in Galway :pac:.

It still got the funding and was rebuilt (badly) as such.

Or Ballaghadereen, the Schrodinger's cat of Connacht towns, located in both Mayo and Roscommon.:P Yeah the ship sailed long ago, just idly wondering how thing would have been if the GAA did things logically...

    I had to google it

    Brilliant analogy

I don't think it's a good draw we'll have rubbish like Meath and Cork/Laois in the super 8s. Cork have terrible support as well they won't even bring an atmosphere.

I agree. Its not a great draw. Last year we had near enough the top 8 teams in the country in the last 8.

Some Cork football supporters can be as bad. Friend of mine from Clonakilty possibly derives more pleasure from their hurlers losing than the footballers winning any game, other than against Kerry. In her defence, they get a ferocious slagging in recent times from city hurling people, who also hate Nemo.

    Strange people :)

Cork Laois will be the only teams not Division 1 level in Super 8. The rest either played Division 1 and got relegated. The others played division 2 and got promoted this year.

In fairness that's 50% of the province outside of Roscommon itself, not like it's a single member being a stick in the mud against loads of others.

    Clare are div 2.

Sure half of Nemo players are from outside the city, no wonder the locals hate them.

As a Cork fan I honestly cannot believe we’ve gotten this lucky

They are probably saying the same thing having won their last game

It's winnable for both IMO, but following a spirited performance in the MFC you'd have to think that Cork are in the right place with a bit of momentum going into it, could end up being a good contest.

Cavan v Tyrone is in Clones according to Ulster GAA page.

Edit: Apologies...that was the u/20 game.

Seems like Sky have a double header on Saturday evening while RTE are showing a game Sunday probably Mayo v Galway if they’ve first choice

    You can bet on it.
Will all fall into place for the GAA.

Probably a double header with the Cavan v Tyrone U.20 semi-final.
Amazing how it all fell accidentally into place for the GAA.
It's very convenient for them. They won't be laughing when the super 8s is a shambles.

Meath v Clare on rte on Sunday, didn't see venue though

Is this confirmed? Playing Mayo Galway in Limerick is a joke.

    Yep, on GAA website

    https://www.gaa.ie/news/championship-venues-agreed-by-cccc/

This is going to draw a lot of people, not sure what choice they had other than to play it outside the province
