To be fair it was sent out for tender and all firms would include a call out charge
Do you think €20 per callout was the best value available? For a premises in the city centre?

Bobby Byrne’s should never have been allowed go for it in the first place because of conflict of interest.

    Looks like nepotism to me.

Bobby Byrnes' did nothing wrong, the call out fee is there to cover costs of a staff member having to deliver (a small or large order) possibly on short notice.

Having an entitled arse in City Hall prepared to waste money in this way is the real issue,

I am not defending it just stating a fact

Remember someone has to be employed to deliver the product, employers prsi, delivery vehicle, diesel, wear and tear etc.

Maybe you could submit a foi request on the tender process to find out was it the best value available

City Hall and County Hall which isn't in the city center. Still rather expensive and it should be investigated, but seeing as Maria Byrne isn't a councillor any more, it's most definitely not nepotism.

She's a senator. Handy guaranteed income with that contract.

Which means she's not a council member, so not nepotism.

For a small order a porter could have been sent to the Locke bar.

Anyone got a list of Email or twitter addresses for the city north candidates? Want to ask a question or two.

Can they not walk to the ****ing shop the lazy bastards? Not one of them should be reelected, and Bobby Byrnes should be boycotted for ripping off Limerick people.

Tea and biscuit order sent out for tender? How about they walk over the bridge to Tesco and buy tea bags and a packet of biscuits?

Bit of a walk from county hall, no?

Why are people forgetting that the council works out of two locations? The cost is scandalous and as I said previously it should be investigated, but having a contract with one supplier to supply both locations is quite normal.

The crescent shopping center is right beside it

What do they even need a catering service for? I have visions of fat beasts in the council offices gorging on biscuits and tea.
    Mouthwateringly expensive!

Great observation, with insight like that, have you thought of running for council yourself,

They should employ someone to run over to buy biscuits and teabags and to avoid cross contamination, a 2nd employee for vegan options,

A taxi would probably do it for a fiver and may well have been used on occasions.

They do not, they have an "arrangement" with FG TO SHARE THE SPOILS.

How come the tea and biscuits issue is only a problem now? Nobody knew of the costs for the last few years? While it's good to be highlighted, it's political opportunism.

  • Registered Users Posts: 486 ✭✭Treepole

Bizarre to see people defending this absolutely ridiculous waste of money. A lot of vested interests here I think.

Freedom of information request are by the Social Democrats. None of them are on the council at this time.

Who's defending it? I've twice (now three times) said it's a scandalous amount of money and needs to be investigated. However I can understand that there may have been a contract for one caterer to supply both locations, which in itself isn't unusual. That's not defending it.

Would they not just run a canteen there

There certainly was a canteen in County Hall when I worked there ~13 years ago.

This is the council we are taking about...running things is not their speciality. That would be ruining things.

Do what most offices do and buy a bloody Nespresso machine and a kettle. If you want a coffee you can easily make one in the office or in Limerick walk for less that 5 minutes and find a coffee shop. Bring your own lunch like the rest of us if you can't afford to walk to the shop/restaurant and pay for a lunch.

The electorate make the tea. They drink it.

I wonder will Mr Talukdar, the FF guy get many votes? As in, local elections, as mentioned are all about people doing things for the local area. Street lights, potholes etc. Will he have enough of a fan base.
To me there seems to be an awful lot of candidates for a small area. I won't be here to vote, so all the one to me, but I can't see much difference between any of them these days.
Nobody or party stands out to me anymore.
Talukdar,or "jackie jackie"as we call him will get between 500 and 650 first preference votes on the first count.

I wouldn't put him anywhere near that figure - doesn't really seem to me like a guy who cares about local issues.

If a candidate got 650 first preference votes, they wont get elected in the first round but likely to get in after transfers in later counts imo

also poll at top of the thread. What are the main Issues you are concerned about, that will influence how you vote?
