]It’s fraud whatever way you paint it. This candidate broke election rules, hasn’t a clue about what the the party he’s standing for has as policies or anything else but still gets a seat??! I don’t think foreign nationals should have a vote - what use is their input?

Limerick is not Iraq and the sooner the Muslim population start adapting this the better. If you want sharia and to dictate what gender of paramedics call to your store - you can **** the **** off and so can they.

We don’t “need “ to accept this view - the Muslims can adjust or they can **** off to whatever ****hole in the desert they crawled out of.

I doubt there was fraud. I think you are overestimating how well thought out his actions are

According to a canvasser, any Polish people she spoke to were unaware they could vote. People legally resident here should be able to vote in local elections because they are part of the local community same as Irish citizens. I don’t think that should include asylum seekers, as it hasn’t been decided whether they can legally reside here.

I’ve met a lot of Muslims here and one of them was an advocate of Sharia and I’d like him to fnck off too. I reckon most of the other Muslims I met would also like him to fnck off.

I think someone who tries to dictate the gender of paramedics who may operate in their store should be educated about what is acceptable and not acceptable in his new home, and not pandered to. I agree that such views are not acceptable. But again most Muslims I’ve met in Limerick aren’t like that.

What exactly are you supposed to be a "specialist" in, anyway..?

Just talk a walk around my area and found 3 poles that had cable ties just lying at the bottom of them! Such a disgrace! This is why they should be legally obliged to print their names on the cable ties. It's pure littering and shows the candidates don't give a damn about the environment.

There are also plenty of posters still up (I took a photo of a few of them so I can check them again when the posters are removed and see which candidate they belonged to).

    Those photos are inadmissible,

You need a person pointing at them, stern face optional.

You were already told that any legal resident in Ireland is entitled to vote in local elections. It doesn't matter if they're Asian, African or bloody Martian.

So what are the minimum requirements to vote? What visas are they on
So can illegals vote if they have an address

As someone here said I have Lavtivan neighbors I don’t think they were aware they could vote in Irish elections

Well if they're illegal then they're not legal residents are they? It's not that hard to understand.

Well that's though luck on them. As EU citizens they're entitled to vote in local and European elections in Ireland.

Interesting comments from Cllr Lynch in today's leader regarding his constituents.

Really looking forward to reporting the green party candidates for littering after this weekend

Sean Lynch FF comes across as being very bitter in that report. Talk about a sense of entitlement!

Not sure if it's the FF part of him or the ex detective part of him that's breaking out! Either way looks like the electorate dodged a bullet there.

A green party candidate tweeted photos of cable ties supposedly left behind by another election candidate. Other than the other candidate having posters in the same location I'm not sure how the GB candidate was so sure who owned or left the cable ties behind - dangerous ground to be threading on.

Got a link to the tweet?

as per one of my previous posts they should be forced to print their names on the cable ties. I found several on the ground yesterday.

I also took photos of some posters that are still up so that I can check if any cable ties remain in place afterwards (and I will be able to identify who owns them). The posters I took pics of belong to The Social Democrats, Sinn Fein and Fianna Fail. There were no posters still up for any other parties in my immediate area.

Do these posters have to be down by midnight tonight or Friday night?

Just spotted between 10 and 20 posters of different sizes belonging to 3 different candidates, between the Crescent shopping centre and the roundabout below the interchange (next to Cedar Downs). Hope they haven't been forgotten!

    Student visas afaik.

I don't think the media do a fair service in this area. It tends to have two distinct narratives. These are variations of a) all immigrants are coming here to destroy everything you've ever loved or b) all immigrants are brilliant people and you are a terrible person for not being their best mate.

In reality, there is no homogenous immigrant group, so it's a disservice to everyone to group them together. Indeed, there is no homogenous "muslim" group. I know muslims who drink and are muslims in name only, and others who take the tenets of their religion seriously. I don't know of any who espouse the lunatic fringe of Islam, in the same way i know lots of Catholics, and very few hardcore ones.

A large percentage of immigrants eventually want to return "home", just like Irish in the US and Oz. We rarely get this narrative in Irish media for some reason. It's like the media are so desperate to proclaim everyone just loves living here.

One caveat to all the above. We should have absolute no time for anyone who uses religion as a cover for anti-woman or anti-free speech. That's true for right wing Catholicism and hardcore Islam. People are entitled to their private beliefs, they aren't entitled to impose them on others.

I certainly think it's a fair thing to have a discussion on it, not just about immigration but what sort of society we want Ireland to have.

    Yes that's exactly it.

Exactly. If they're still up Saturday morning then complain them to the council. Until then no point in worrying about it, because they're still allowed to be there.

Also from experience of previous elections, the odd poster can get missed by accident, so you could maybe tweet the candidate if you see single stray posters instead of getting angry about it and reporting them.

How is it dangerous territory if he has proof that the only posters other than his were on the pole and they were gone and there's loads of cable ties left on the ground?

You dont have to be inspector gadget to work it out.

Are election posters the only items secured to poles by cable ties, are cable ties only ever used by election candidates?

During the week I saw a teenager pick up cable ties from the litter bin next to St Micheal's Boat club - assuming he dropped them along the pathway towards the bridge would it be fair to call out any candidate that had their posters on poles nearby?
