Thank you and you are more than welcome; give me a shout any Saturday. The market is a great place to while away a few hours. There's something for everyone there. With an average of 10,000 visitors each Saturday there is definitely something for everyone.

Seems Elisa ODonovan has left Social Dems, anyone know the reason why.

She wasn’t put forward as a candidate in the GE which I must say surprised me, the lady they did nominate-Jenny Blake- did surprisingly poor for a party that enjoyed ample positive publicity.

I'm guessing here but she has had an issue with the Greens (in Limerick at least) and the SDs wanted her to vote in the mayoral election for the Green candidate. She didn't. So maybe there was some tension around that and she felt she'd be better of being her own boss and continue being a Public rep as an independent.

It wasn't anything to do with the GE. She didn't want to run and appears to be friendly with Jenny Blake.

Not remotely surprised by the resignation. She was never really into social democracy tbh. Backed the FG candidate for the chair of the metropolitan area thing recently, which indirectly blocked pedestrianisation of the city centre. Took actions to block student accommodation in her area.

Also uses the word whom incorrectly the whole time on twitter. I'm not a fan tbh.

Ask her. I'm pretty sure nobody on here knows her personal reasons for not voting Green.

but phog suggested he knew the reason for her leaving the SDs was because she didn't want to vote for the green Councillor. Its not about her personal reasons, its about her political actions.

She objected to student accommodation being put in her area near Mary I.
Last I looked there was a shortage of suitable student accommodation. Providing it would surely be a good thing.
So you wonder if that was a political act for personal reasons.

The same student accommodation that was turned down by ABP for environmental and conservation reasons?

seeing as she the only SD councillor she must have been part of negotiating the deal with the greens...? you think she want to collaborate with other councillors.

What environmental and conservation reasons? She never mentioned any of them afaik.
Sometimes people conjure up utter nonsense as environmental and conservation reasons for their own agenda.

here it is from the leader 3 oct 2019(had to copy and paste cause of the stupid pay wall.)

A €30m proposal to develop a 326-bed student complex in Limerick city has been rejected by An Bord Pleanala for environmental and conservation reasons.
Planning permission was sought for the towering development at the site of the former Dan Ryan's garage at Punches Cross.
More than 140 signed a petition, objecting to the strategic housing development, lodged by Cloncaragh Investments Ltd on June 16.

n its decision on September 30, An Bord Pleanala gave eight reasons and considerations to turn down the development. The board said that it was not satisfied that the proposal "would not adversely affect the integrity" of the River Shannon and River Fergus Estuaries Special Protection Area and the Lower River Shannon Special Area of Conservation.

It said that the proposed excavation of 33,000 cubic metres of soil and removal fuel tanks and hazardous substances on land where groundwater is "extremely vulnerable, could result in a signficant negative impact on the existing water quality" of the River Shannon and River Fergus.

It said that the board considered the "conservation objectives, qualifying interests and conservation interests" for the River Shannon and River Fergus Estuaries Special Protection Area and the Lower River Shannon Special Area of Conservation.
It also considered the history of the site and the nature of the extent of the proposed development.
An Bord Pleanala also took into consideration of the submissions and observations received, and the Limerick City Development Plan 2010-2016.
Social Democrats councillor Elisa O'Donovan welcomed this week's decision. She told the Limerick Leader: "The number one concern for residents was the environmental impact of construction on this very sensitive site. It is welcome to see An Bord Pleanala acknowledge these concerns. This site should be redeveloped but in a sustainable way that will not impact the health and safety of the local community."

It wasn't turned down. The application was thrown out as incomplete. They've recently had a successful SHD consultation with ABP, so expect another full application will be made in the coming weeks. This time with a full NIS.

That's a long winded way of saying that they didn't do a Natura Impact Statement, which is a basic requirement of any project with 1km of a major watercourse. ABP didn't actually acknowledge any of her concerns. As I said the in the previous post, expect a new application for the exact same development in the next few weeks, but with the full NIS this time.

basically there worried about taking up the old petrol tanks incase they leaked and poisoned the water table around the place.

I like the way she says it was all about the environment and sustainability after questions about that were used as a way of blocking it.

    Her actual objection was
Social Democrats councillor Elisa O’Donovan, who lives in O’Connell Avenue, was one of the objectors to the development. She pointed out there are a number of existing land sites which could be utilised for student accommodation – highlighting the Westbourne site at Courtbrack Avenue.

“It’s prime student accommodation and ready to use. This is where we should be calling out privately owned developments. It would be more suitable for student accommodation than landing a very large scale project to residents in O’Connell Avenue.”

She is supposed to represent the whole of West Limerick, not just her neighbours or herself.

True but if the residents of the area contact her and the rest of city west dont, then she will represent the people that contacted her that have concerns about the a development
