Ah hello Limerick local elections won't be impacting on trans legislation

    Thankfully.

And I won't be voting for Brian Leddin and The Green Party. He doesn't even appear to know what city he is running in.

What is your definition of "Trans"? Are these people who have already undergone gender realingment surgery? I presume full psychological and counselling services, if required, would have been made available at the time to those undergoing this procedure and then they just carry on with their lives like the rest of us. I am not sure what other forms of "support" the state could be expected to provide. It already provides financial assistance to those who cannot afford to pay for this treatment themselves.

The alternative is ignore a section of society which wouldn't be cool. For example, the suicide rates amongst trans people is way higher than other sections of society.

Wonder why that is? Perhaps they were troubled to begin with?

You can endorse the green party by voting for Brian though.

How can anyone vote for him when he doesn't know what city he is in.

I see Olivia O Sullivan has replaced all the posters on athlunkard st that esb took down with her own.

She gives off the impression of an entitled house wife with too much time on her hands. A lot of these candidates have suspect professions that look a lot like "unemployed" to me.

    A lot of these candidates

have you researched any of the candidates and their priorities if they get in?

what do you want from a candidate? what do you want for Limerick?

Why should people research the candidates? Is this not what their posters littering the city are supposed to do, except they are all wasted on stupid slogans and gurning faces? If you want people to vote tell them what your policies are first and foremost, nobody cares what you look like.

Presume he is researching the ones that know what city they live in.

100% agree. The posters are pure litter and an eye sore.
No clue what each candidates policies are from their posters and the ones that say "Public need not private greed" or other stupid slogans just come across as desperate!

I've been trying to put together a table with the candidate name, party and main points for the last hour and to say I'm frustrated is an understatement. Name and party are easily found, but anything else is practically impossible.

There are 19 candidates in Limerick City West where I am. So far via the Limerick Leader website I have been able to get information on 4 candidates, Elenora Hogan, Mark Carey, Elisa O'Donovan and Dan McSweeney, there are 5 candidates from the area who have been interviewed by the leader but the last one, James Collins, is already archived and behind a paywall.

It's bloody ridiculous that it is this difficult to find information on the candidates in an election, without having to troll through random web and facebook pages. Seriously, how difficult is it to prepare a simple website which gives the name, party, and main standing points for each candidate?

The council simply list the candidates in each area along with their party and for some reason their employment.....what the hell does that have to do with anything?

The posters again tell me absolutely nothing about the candidates, well that's not true, the solidarity/PBP ones show me who not to vote for! So that's something at least.

Has anyone else found anyplace to get the information?

What I am saying is that he seems to be selfless and genuine. So if forced to vote FG he'd be my choice.

He's got one of my votes anyway. I see some of the bleeding hearts, even some who are running for election are outraged at his comments and that crime hasn't been something that was brought up when they've went canvassing. So I'd love to know which neighbourhoods they've been canvassing because apart from looking at their ugly mugs on posters I haven't seen one down my way apart from Brain who called around probably two weeks and took time to chat to everyone unlike some who'll send a group of lackies with leaflets to do drop and runs.

Some people will vote for a candidate purely on the basis of image and slogans. I am sure some marketing guru could explain exactly why. It's just another form of advertising. If you want to sell something to the public, first of all you need to make it visible and recognised.

I think Limerick is by far the best city in Ireland to live in. There's so much potential that isn't been drawn on though. The river for one.

What do I want? Someone who loves the city and the people here and wants to make life even better for us.

I'm no fan of Fine Gael but fair play to him for saying that.

Typically he is being jumped on by academics like James Lawlor of Narrative4 and other candidates like Elisa O'Donovan who think what we need is empathy and more "yoof clubs."

Utterly clueless twaddle. They obviously never had to live with the kind of fear and intimidation that these gangs bring to normal people in these neighbourhoods.

They'd also know that this problem has been going on for well over a decade now in these areas, and that new youth clubs built in response to this problem in some of these areas have achieved sweet f*ck all in terms of tackling the problem.

Of course that is half the problem here, these kinds of people are so far removed from life in these areas that trying to explain it to them is a waste of time. Their pie-in-the-sky liberal leftist academic theories look well and good on paper in the safe confines of universities and the middle class suburbs but the reality is far different.

These feral teens behave as they do because they know that there are no consequences to their actions. NONE.

They have no fear of the law and get pleasure out of tormenting other people.

The only solution is to bring in harsh penalties that will make them think twice about their own behaviour. End of story.

What kind of penalties do you have in mind?
These offenders, in the main, are children in the legal sense of the word i.e under sixteen years of age. Should we impose fines or prison sentences on their parents as punishment? This could prove difficult to implement particularly with dysfunctional families where one or even both parents are absent and are playing no active role in a child's upbringing.

Cut child allowance? Put the child into care?

We have been trying things the liberals way re_ delinquency for decades, shows you how arrogant these people are that despite the abject failure, they continue to tell us they know best how to improve things re_ anti social behaviour

Why on earth do we listen?

Since when has Ireland been a liberal country for decades? We were literally one of the last countries in the world to legalise for abortion! I would say we have been living in a fairly conservative country for decades and slowly, thankfully, we are entering a more enlightened and progressive time.
