Was walking through Ranelagh last night and passed where Wongs used be, closed a number of years and I believe their sister restaurant in Clontarf is also long gone.
Would also have had good memories of Furama in Donnybrook, all makes me think where are the best Chinese restaurants as opposed to Takeaways in Dublin, I know parnell street has Asian Chinese restaurants but in terms of a Chinese for the irish palate whats best in Dublin ??

I quite like Mak at D6 if you’re looking for what I would call a standard Chinese e.g. not a traditional Chinese a la the restaurants on Parnell/Capel Street.

Also very good, but more expensive, is China Sichuan out in Sandyford.

Wongs in Clontarf is now Yangs... might be worth checking out to see how much has changed!

Try Kim Chi adjoining Shakespeare's. The menu is predominantly Korean but there are plenty of Chinese options. You won't be sitting in any private booths playing too much ankle tennis, but the food is lovely.

M & L is very good, another vote for Kimchi (its part of hophouse) the bibimbap is YUM (I think most of menu is korean rather than chinese though)

    I went there last year.

The restaurant decor is nice and feels pretty high end and I enjoyed the food - so I liked the place.

But clearly it is very westernised Chinese food and if you go there with Chinese people they’ll tell you they have never seen most of the dishes in China. So I’d say it’s a good restaurant assuming you’re not necessarily looking for genuine Chinese food.

    There's also a Wong's in Castleknock, isn't there?

There is but I don't rate it at all.

Yes Kimchi is a Korean restaurant and bibimbap is a Korean dish :-) (still tastes good through!)

M & L is indeed a good combination of fairly genuine Chinese food and at the same time decent level of cleanness. Although it’s not necessarily my personal cup of tea as they are specialised in Sichuan food which is not my favourite Chinese food, I’d definitely recommend it.

    China Sichuan in Sandyford.
    Highly rated.

I’d be voting for M&L too, been a while but it does be good value as well as great food.

Ming Court in Blanchardstown is v good for dim sum and often packed with Chinese families. Have Japanese and Asian friends who also think it's very good. Good for a big group too.

I know some people who rate Good World, it's grand but I wasn't hugely impressed to be honest.

M&L manage to do both the 'Sweet and Sour Chinese and the 'Chopped up bits of lung'** Chinese, both quite well. keep everyone happy.

*** I jest (I think). All very tasty anyway and sometimes sure it's better not ask.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Hang Dai yet.

The Dublin Airport cap is damaging the economy of Ireland as a whole, and must be scrapped forthwith.

Just my opinion but I went once to try it and found it fairly overpriced for what you get (both quality and quantity, which is very small). I guess it’s more Cantonese style roast duck than Peking duck and maybe my hopes were too high because the place was hyped up so much when it opened, but as a bit of a Peking duck lover who always gets some when in China, I was fairly disappointed by their duck (a Chinese person who was eating there with me agreed).

Not to mention that we were pretty strongly pressured to leave after about just over an hour, which I found was poor form given that we were a group of 4 having all ordered starters and duck as a main, and with 2 people ordering drinks.

Always a fan of Chai Yo on Baggot St

I enjoyed the food, probably the closest to authentic Chinese that I’ve tasted in a non-Chinese restaurant. But it’s expensive. I’d get the same food for 1/3 of the price in the restaurants on Capel St or Parnell St.

I’m a fan of M&L like many people in this thread, but IMO the best authentic food is from Old Town on Capel St or JoJo’s or Chili King on Parnell St.

Mandarin castle in castleknock is excellent for a 'european' style chinese, your normal fare but the meat and veg quality is excellent and the service is unreal.

I second that. Mandarin Castle is superb and is a good example of what many Chinese eateries could be if they tried.

I found Hang Dai a total rip off. I spent a fortune there for 2 people and got f*ck all food. It was nice food but the whole place is style over substance.
I want to try M&L and that Bowls place.
