Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Munster getting bullied in the contact area

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,225 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

It's dispiriting to see that Munster are still essentially the same side as last season and the one before. They've a mean defence, decent set piece and well structured up front. But there's nothing going on in attack. When they meet a side they can't bully they fall apart.

Thus far, Itoje is a giant amongst boys. Beirne and Kleyn are no shows.
Neither of them are even close to his level.
Felix Jones is holding Munster back.
There's no imagination in Munsters back line.
JVG needs to bring in a top level attack coach.

Itoje has done the same as Beirne, that is fcuk all.

Saracen’s just taking the piss with the offside now. Munster aren’t equipped to chase games, no intelligence to their play.

Second time Archer has fluffed the ball , you want to win a European cup you really gotta have better guys than that coming on

Kleyn has probably been Munster's best forward. Genuinely don't know what game you're watching...

This is nonsense. He's put in a lot of hits and carries.

Itoje and Kleyn have both been very, very good.

    There's a try.

Terrible effort for that maul, whole Munster pack shoved back by 3-4 Saracens players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,637 ✭✭✭roshje

    Great kick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,225 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Starting to come around to the view that Beirne should be in the backrow. Doesn't look to have the muscle to play in the 2nd row against the best side.

    Munster have to score next.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭kingofthekong

Luckiest try I've ever seen lol , FairPlay to Murray though quality

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,201 ✭✭✭troyzer

Munster just look so blunt in attack.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,147 ✭✭✭testtech05

Thought there was a hint of knock on by Murray there rolled the ball forward to himself after it popped out.
Great conversion by JJ. If Munster can score next they are well back in it.

I really do wonder what games people are watching..

Carberry should've made it a contract condition that they hire a proper attack coach. Jones is stealing money from Munster

Ah ffs Garces he lost that on landing

That was a very tough call on Beirne.
A few very "flat" passes have been let go too.

    No chance that's a penalty

    Gifting them 3 points back

A lot of people could argue Munster were gifted 7 points after that scrum.

You get some, you lose some. They missed. Move on.

O'Donoghue definitely caused that to pop out by kicking it.

Murray rolled it forward to himself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,612 ✭✭✭eigrod

    That’s that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,599 ✭✭✭ScrubsfanChris

That's what you get for ZERO imagination

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,172 ✭✭✭✭kmart6

    All very easy.

People can say Billy V was being booed earlier but there were cheers every time for him countering it.

    And that's game.

You could see the delight on the ref's face when the try was scored :(

Score probably reflects where the two teams are at, sadly.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,110 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

I said it after the Munster Leinster game at Christmas, and I’ll say it again. Munster are a very limited team. There is just a lack of quality there.

They play like 15 grunts. There is no brains, no imagination. Just 80 minutes of trying to run over the top of players and when it doesn’t work just try it some more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,575 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

6 semi finals lost in a row, and still nothing has changed.

Earls is probably the only one that can do something a little magical at pace so losing him drained them off any inventiveness.

Quality is not the issue . Game play is . You're probably looking at the winners here

Munster singing drowned out by the fat lady.

I think a semi was the best Munster could have hoped for so it’s a good season over all.

Squad needs improvement in the pack to be in with a shot at silverware.

They're incapable of holding onto the ball and scoring against top teams.

I don't think they were going to win this game anyway, they were murdered in the air and on the deck. Just not enough quality to counter Baby England.

Without Earls they lack any sort of guile in the backline. That should not be the case though. Scannell, Sweetnam, Conway are all talented footballers. That they look so clueless is an indictment of the coaching team.

And in typical irish fashion, coaches contract is already renewed

I blame the IRFU somewhat, in that they shouldn't have permitted Munster to hire such substandard coaches. Foley, Jones et al. Flannery is seemingly decent, but they have done the players a disservice with the set up there.

Jones is the problem. He's doing nothing.

Munster also lack the core skills to execute a more intricate gameplan, it takes a few seasons to build that up and change the culture. I don't blame JvG.
