    Hi RS,

Years ago I brought back an Onkyo Tx-NR515 receiver from the US. I have a voltage converter that I use when plugging it in. The converter buzz's all the time and i'm sick of it so I'm looking to replace it.
I have noticed that Receivers have come down a lot in price. I just need something standard enough to power a set of Bose Acoustimass 6 (III) surround sound speakers and plug into a 2019 LG OLED B8SLC tv. I would like at least 4/5 outputs - TV (Master), Sky box, Playstation, Kodi box.
What would you recommend for this? Something cheap enough and tidy would be all I need.

    Hi Jesper,

    Thanks for the post!

I would go for the either the Denon AVRX2500 or the Sony STRDN1080. These would be the best mid range replacements for the Onkyo TXNR515. The AVRX2500 is currently on offer at the moment for £349 and features 8 HDMI inputs and 2 outputs, Dolby Atmos, DTS X and wireless music streaming:

The Sony STRDN1080 is currently £429 and has very similar features to the Denon. It was the What HiFi award winner and pips the Denon in terms of sound quality:

Let me know if either of these would be of interest to you.

    Kind regards

    Hi David,

Thanks for your response. I'm not really looking to replace the Onkyo and I don't need the functionality it provided. I am just looking for something to power the Bose Surround system and have 3 or 4 HDMI connections and works with UHD/Blu-ray. The models below are basic (and cheap) but I think they contain everything I need. Is there something I'm missing? Can these be shipped to Kilkenny, Ireland?

    Hi Jesper,

Apologies, you had said in your original post you were looking to replace the Onkyo due to the buzzing sound. If you are looking for a very basic amp I would go for the Denon AVRX250BT at £149:

    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203341-denon-avrx250bt-bluetooth-av-receiver.aspx

It's a fantastic entry level amp. The two you had linked me are clearance items and are unfortunately unavailable from our store but the AVRX250 is brand new and would be on par with the amps you had been looking at. It has 5 HDMI inputs and 1 output.

Shipping to Kilkenny would be £6.99.

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

    David

    Hi David,

That looks good enough. I have the LG remote which I hope I can program to use the volume controls with this. If you can confirm the sound connections are suitable for a Bose system then this is exactly what I need. Can you match the Sterling price to the Euro price?

    Thanks,
    Bill.

    Hi Bill,

We don't stock Bose systems so I wouldn't be sure what connections your model would have. The speakers would need to be connected via standard speaker cable to the amp and the subwoofer would need to have an active sub input in order to work with the Denon.

I can't match sterling for Euro I'm afraid, the best prices I can do are £149 sterling or 179 euro.

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

    David

    Hi Bill,

I've just had a look at the manual for your system and it looks like you'll need the ribbon type converter cable (if you don't already have it) to connect the receiver to the Bose sub, then the Bose sub powers the speakers. As we don't stock Bose though I can't advise whether this will work 100% with the system.

    Kind regards
