    Hi guys,

Bought a setup through yourselves earlier in the year, which is superb by the way!, but have now been given an a second turntable that I looking to run through my amp. I know there's various ways of doing it but I'm wondering what the simplest solution would be to run my Pro-Ject Primary and Technics SL-BD22 through my Yamaha AS201 amplifier?

    Thanks lads!

    Aaron.

    Hi Aaron.

    Very strange request :p

You will be able to run a 2nd turntable if you connect to one of the other phono inputs on the AS201, CD or Tuner. You will most likely require a phono stage as the AS201 only has the one built in and the Project would already be using this input.
    Phono stage starts at £24.95
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-909962-btech-bt26-pre-amp-mm-phono-pre-amp-mic-pre-amp.aspx

You will be then be able to switch between the two.

Is then any particular reason you are looking to run two turntable as this is not something I have came across someone doing before (Other than a DJ but this would require a mixer etc...)

Any questions please let me know.

    Hi Kenny,

Thanks for the help! Yeah bit of a strange one I know :D It's purely because I don't want to put it into storage and although I may rarely use it I'd still like to have the option of it being a functional turntable rather than being there purely for aesthetics! As for the BTECH phono stage attached I've read that there's a chance of hum from the box?

As you've zero need for concurrent listening I'd avoid going through an inappropriately amp'd input and instead just get an RCA switcher. A decent one should have no impact on audio quality and will be passive and basically bulletproof.

    Hey Aaron.

Yes, there is always a chance with the B-tech as there is no grounding screw and its only £24.95

You could go up to the Project Phonobox MM which is a very popular choice priced at £60
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-201010-project-phonobox-mm-mm-phono-pre-amp.aspx

With pretty much all turntables there is a risk of electrical hum. Make sure you try your best to keep the audio cables away from the mains cables.

    Hi ED E.

There would be no issue in using one of the other phono inputs along with a phono stage. This is a very common thing to do.
I'm also not sure what you mean by "inappropriately amp'd" ?
Using an extrenal phono stage will do the same job if not better than the ones that are usually built it.

Some amps don't have a pre amp built in and phono stages are designed for this purpose.

The OP could use a RCA switcher if he wants but I would not say there would be no impact on the audio quality as any extra switches or components will have an effect on audio quality weather it be large or small.

There will be only so much of a difference you will would be able to notice with an amp like the AS201 anyway.

    ED E,

Please take a moment to read the Charter for the forum - pitching in your advice/opinion is not appropriate here:
    • As a general principle, if you're not asking Richersounds for a quote/information/involved in a deal here, it's usually best to proceed with caution. A more judicious approach to interventions and expressing opinions is needed here than would otherwise prevail in a general discussion area, such as the Home Entertainment Forums.
    • If you see a post which is looking for a quote or advice from RS, please resist the urge to offer your opinion. Such queries are not an open invitation for posters to make suggestions etc, these queries should be left to RS to answer. If queries or requests for quotes attracted everyone's opinion, the forum would be unworkable. This is not intended to prevent the usual chat and banter which you will regularly see on the RS forum.
    • If you have an opinion on some matter related to the items that Richersounds sells, or you wish to give people the benefit of your advice on some related issue, Please do not post it in this forum. There are other fora on Boards in the Tech section on Home Entertainment or TV related topics, or in the Consumer fora, which are suitable locations for endowing Boardies with the benefit of any advice or opinion you wish to offer. Bearing in mind the purpose of this forum, posts along the lines described here are not appropriate and will be suitably snipped or deleted without warning. This approach is taken to ensure the workability of this particular forum and to ensure that general advice and discursive posts are made in the appropriate forum. This is not intended to prevent the usual chat and banter which you will regularly see on the RS forum.

As Kenny has taken the time to respond I'm not deleting your post but please do not post on this thread again - if you have any queries about the Charter feel free to contact me by PM.

    Ritz.
