There was a fishing shop on Lavitts Quay and Murrays in Patrick Street had fishing gear all gone now I suppose shame. Really miss how shops back in the day sold items for different needs now all just phone shops and coffee shops or vacant.

There was also a Taxidermist on Pope's Quay. Can't remember who they were. Just a memory of the stuffed animals in the window.

The Tackle Shop on the Coal Quay. If anyone was into fishing they'll remember this place. It used also (frequently I believe) win awards for the shop front as it was a lovely traditional style.

    Murray's is still there.

Tackle Shop relocated to Watercourse Road and then to its current location on Shandon Street.

    Naturel or Naturale or something.
There was a couple of them.
I remember one on Daunt's Square where the phone shop is now

If memory serves me right, I first recall Naturalle took over from "Castle Restaurant" which specialised in seafood but also did breakfasts - they moved units whilst in Queen's Old Castle Shopping Centre and shortly thereafter it became Naturalle probably early-mid'90's. They later opened in Savoy Shopping Centre right across from Mary Rose Café. After McCarthy's Bread flagship store closed down in Daunt Square, it became Naturalle and had 1st floor seating. Not sure if Queen's Old Castle branch closed when Naturalle opened in Daunt Square. Unfortunately, O2 Store would later replace Naturalle in Daunt Square and it was not long operating there. Nice fruit scones, salads and curries!

For food, who remembers Halpins. The first curry I ever had.

I think Halpins Restaurant was located on Cook Street (Lower) between Oliver Plunkett Street and South Mall. It had an all wooden facade. I had a meal there in late '80's.

Was the one on Washington Street called PF or P&F?

It was probably PFH Computers which was previously home to Green Shield Stamps on Washington Street West.

The Green Door cafe, can't remember where, off OP St. maybe.

Mccarthy's (?) bakery and cake shop on daunt's Square.

McDonalds used to be mandys wasn't it?Not sure it was ever a burgerland now.Think it was the Patrick st one and Wilton too.

McDonald's Daunt Square/Patrick Street was previously Mandy's. Originally this was the site of Woodford Bourne's Wine & Spirits Store and as retail trends were changing Woodford Bourne's had tried to bring McDonald's to open their very first outlet in Cork on the site but as McDonald's had only just opened their first branch in Grafton Street Dublin they were not ready to expand outside the pale just yet and so declined. Woodford Bourne's then had to invent their own concept which was to be called "Mandy's" all those years ago.

"Burgerland" had a unit on Patrick Street underneath the Victoria Hotel and Pizzaland was right next door. There was another Burgerland outlet located inside Queen's Old Castle Shopping Centre which had seating on ground and 1st floor levels. Burgerland never traded where McDonald's Daunt Square is now.

In the mid '80's McDonald's did eventually arrive to Cork and opened their first Cork outlet on Winthrop Street on the site of Atkins Garden Store. The street was later pedestrianised which probably helped McDonald's increase footfall into their outlet.

Green Door Cafe was once upstairs (possibly over Le Chateau) and had a green front door in Georgian style. The steps were situated outside the building. In later years it moved across to the opposite side of Academy Street at ground floor level.

McCarthy's bakery had several shops and it's flagship store was in Daunt Square. They had smaller shops at corner of Castle Street/North Main Street and another one on Oliver Plunkett Street.

    Murray's is still there.

Tackle Shop relocated to Watercourse Road and then to its current location on Shandon Street.

Next to Murray's on right-hand-side was "Household Linens" which later transferred to Oliver Plunkett Street going towards Parnell Place. Next to this was Kelly's Music Shop which was also a Post Office branch for the Grand Parade and adjoined the former Capitol Cinema.

Cassidys on Patrick st ( used to be woolworths before that - now a bank i think )
    Red Square - paul st
    Gypsies - think paul street
    Bennetts ( Waterstones now)
Molloys shoes on north main street
    Mirror Mirror ( now oasis)
FM store ( front of old queens old castle)

Bennetts was on North Main Street (not sure if it became a sports shop for a while)
Waterstone's Booksellers on Patrick Street was previously a small shopping arcade called "OMNI" and before this it was a once the Cork City branch of "Winston's" department store.

FM Store were front left of Queen's Old Castle ....(FM Store opened a 2nd store on Patrick Street at corner of Drawbridge Street) Beshoff's Fish restaurant probably replaced FM Store in Queen's for a while but Beshoff's never took off in Cork for some reason. Mirror Mirror was a major anchor tenant at Queen's Old Castle but I think the group went out of business and I recall "Blacktie" came later which were front right side. Of course "Blacktie" eventually transferred from Queen's Old Castle to corner of Patrick Street/Lavitt's Quay for a number of years and is now a Tourist Office but was once the Swan & Cygnet pub.
I think "Oasis" is on the site of the former "Burton's" store on Patrick Street.

Queen's Old Castle once had Penney's (Primark) department store as it's main anchor tenant before moving into The Munster Arcade on Patrick Street.

Debenham's replaced Roches Stores nationwide including Patrick Street store.

Penney's eventually took former Roches Stores outlet in Wilton Shopping Centre.

Brown Thomas replaced Cash's on Patrick Street

    TESCO replaced all Quinnsworths supermarkets nationwide including outlets in Wilton, Paul Street, Douglas Village Shopping Centre etc;

Eason's buy's "Read's Office & Stationery Store" on Patrick Street and closes it down!

Golden Discs current flagship outlet on Patrick Street was previously HMV Record Store and prior to this was the Pavilion Cinema & Restaurant.

Part of Raven Bar on Liberty Street side was once Charlie Duggan's Cake Shop - the aroma of cakes passing there after mass on a Sunday morning all those years ago was divine!

Farm House shop near South Gate Bridge.

Hadden's Bread Shop on South Main Street.

Thompson's Bakery MacCurtain Street and it's cake shops around city centre. I remember frequenting "Floury Hands" by Daunt Square for the morning break time. Flor Griffin's first Cork City Centre outlet was based in Thompson's on MacCurtain Street before moving to Parnell Place and later Lavitt's Quay before closing.

Guy's Printing Company on the Coal Quay (Cornmarket Street) which is now the site of TK Maxx!

"Damart" mail order clothing retailer on Academy Street next to Cork Examiner/Evening Echo offices!

O'Brien's Ice Cream Parlours on both Washington Street and MacCurtain Streets in Cork City.

"GINO's" Pizza Restaurant on Winthrop Street.

    Westimer's > Elroy's on Sullivan's Quay

De Lacey House opposite Casey's Furniture on Oliver Plunkett Street

    Bully's Restaurant on Paul Street.

    Café Jordaan

Just some local Cork pubs that have closed over years which include following:

    The Sextant Bar, Albert Street
Port Bar, Victoria Road (near Albert Quay)
The Lough Tavern, Gould Street (across from The Lough Church main entrance on Lough Road)
Ardmanning Bar & Lounge - once situated alongside SuperValu Togher, The Lough Shopping Centre
    Dennehy's Pub @ Dennehy's Cross,
    The Western Star, Western Road.
    The Crow's Nest, Victoria Cross
    The Doughcloyne, Togher
    The Manhattan Bar, Ballyphehane
The City Bounds (recently closed in Lehenaghmore, Togher)
    The Viscount, Curraheen Road, Bishopstown
    The Rendezvous, Model Farm Road
    Clancy's Bar & Restaurant
Le Chéile off North Main Street near The Gate Cinema (probably Cork's 1st "Super Pub")
    Nancy Spain's, Barrack Street
The Gateway Bar, Barrack Street (several name changes "BarBarella", "An Réalt Dearg")
    The Angler's Rest
    Celia's Pub, Lower Pouladuff Road

    and so on...

Comet records, early '90s House music on vinyl. English market.

The early' 90s are hard to remember!

Anyone remember the vegan restaurant in the early '90s?

    Can't remember where... City centre.

Dark and dingey... Handcut chips and veggie burger with mushie peas. Not an avocado to be seen.

Around the same time period... Riddled with Gorgeous. Vintage clothing in a little arcade off Winthrop St. Where the Web cafe is now.

Early mid 1990s this place.

Dealz was preceded by "Director's Cut" > "Zavvi" >"Virgin Mega Store" > "Blacktie"

Connoly's book shop, now Rory Gallagher Plaza.

Bennett's of North Main Street would have commanded a lot of trade - it had a supermarket to the rear behind the drapery. Bennett's also once had a presence at the VG Supermarket building (1st Floor) near The Lough back in the 1970's (later to become Ryan's SuperValu Togher)

Bolgers was further down Patrick Street and was probably around for a number of years when Waterstones first opened. Before Waterstones you had a shopfront "OMNI" (a small shopping arcade) for several years and prior to this it had been Winston's department store ("Go to Winston's and get your value plus" was their slogan if I recall and I was once there to visit Santa Claus when I was about 6 or 7 yrs old)

I believe Mothercare replaced Bolgers and it's probably now "Søstrene Grene" 74/75 Patrick Street

Always remember zoom in roches stores had nice clothes. also gasoline in merchants quay and Patrick st.

Zoom boutique was for menswear and I think it occupied the front right corner while Cheros boutique was for the ladies on front left corner of Roches Stores in Patrick Street, Cork. These were probably the first sections that had different branding to the normal Roches Stores departments. In later years, outside stores like Dorothy Perkins would occupy floor space within Roches Stores department stores.
