anyone know the prize money for winning the Challenge cup?

I saw figures of £518K for Leinster winning the Champions Cup in 2018. Not really a huge sum when you consider the effort and cost required to win it. The Challenge Cup is maybe half that or even less?!

I thought that a team earned that much simply by getting to the last 8 and more after that.

Fair enough. Hope we're getting a wee bit of cash for it.

He was an absolute monster for us, but he missed most of two(?) seasons for us, and was almost inevitably injured by the time it came to playoffs. Such a good player, but we never really saw the best of him when it counted.

So Long, Marcell, and thanks for all the fish.

Oof. Bit of a cold statement from Ulster there

It sounds like both sides couldn't wait to be rid of each other.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,466 ✭✭✭Paul Smeenus

Bloody hell. He came here at the start of the 2016-2017 season and has played 57 times for us.

Averages out at 11.4 games per season for us.

I wish him all the best but certainly not delighted with how it played out. I really hope we got compensated for him leaving early....but i think Petrie seems shroud enough not to miss out.

Our "Rainbow Cup" i.e. interpro fixtures

    Round 1
    Friday, April 23
    Ulster v Connacht – KO 20:15
    Kingspan Stadium, Belfast

    Round 2
    Friday, May 7
    Munster v Ulster – KO 20:15
    Thomond Park, Limerick

    Round 3
    Friday, May 14
    Leinster v Ulster – KO 20:15
    RDS Arena, Dublin

So a Connacht game at home as warm up before Leicester.

Away to both Munster and Leinster.

    Amazing.

How did they work out these fixtures?

Rubbish teams away from home where possible to keep the good teams in the competition for longer, we need the tv money

It'd be easy to be cynical, but at this point I don't even care.

First team run-out against Connacht to get rid of any rust for Leicester; wider squad subsequently get game time against the other provinces in meaningless fixtures. Munster could field their first team and console themselves they're the second best province when they win.

Reverse of the regular season games already played I think

I'd assume just based on the most recent fixtures. Your last game against Connacht was away, your last game against Munster was at home and your last game against Leinster was at home. So it's just the reverse of those. Its not like they'll he on a long haul flight or anything.

    EDIT: Damn you Burkie!

Not a popular one burkie, only answer aloud in here is that the ifru had a secret meeting down in Dublin to plot out Ulster's downfall in the rainbow cup.

Plus a trip to the RDS so all the good Ulster players can visit their mam for dinner.

I'm pretty sure Leinster owe us a home game, didn't we have to play you away twice last season?

Yeah but we have a potential European final the week after so fair enough we don't have to travel.

That's a home game for most of your squad so doesn't count

Pretty sure Ulster played Leinster at the RDS just after Christmas

    Anyway its a crap format.

Play 6 matches, 3 against teams in your own country and the 3 random matches, including one home match against a SA side.

Then the top two teams play off in the final.

It genuinely feels like a handicap system to give the Welsh, Italians and Scots a chance of a final.

Absolute nonsense and I hope Ulster treat it as a development competition.

At least it will be rugby to watch when the sun is hopefully shining. And with a bit of luck who knows we might even be able to get to one or two of the home matches.

Shame it ended the way it did, but he was definitely in our top 5 overseas signings, indeed higher in terms of ability.

Good luck to him, but we move on.

I'd like to see Izzy, McCann, ReaJea, Doak, Reid all get a couple of matches. That's all I care about. I'm much more interested in whether EOS, TOT, Hume, Lowry, Baloucoune get on a touring (or "touring") Ireland side.

Yep. January 8th in the RDS, March 6th in Ravenhill.

You are correct jaco, an oversight on my part.

I asked EPCR and they said they could provide the version that isn't available in Mexico.

All Tayto are pish. And cheese and onion is the worst flavour of crisps. These things have been proven by science.
