Faddes looks like the real deal, had a couple of hiccups early on but as the game went on he was a big part in a lot of Ulster's breaks.

    Carter was solid too.

Drunk and abroad watching on the phone. Faddes and Lyttle have a nice wee connection already. Impreased so far!

Hopefully Addison can get over his injury problems. I'd love to have both him and Faddes as options, rather than Faddes ending up being a replacement for him. Thought Hume and Lyttle looked lively, and it was good to see McGrath have a great game.

Addison looks like yet another permacrocked player for Ulster. There must be a warehouse somewhere stacked with crippled rugby players from which Ulster are legally obliged to make signings.......

Seemed to have a few injury problems during his time at Sale too. It's a pity for him that he can't put a decent run of games together, he's different class when fit.

Good to see Ulster's new signing perform well on Friday. Faddes made a couple of errors early on but had some real moments of class. Carter looked the part and the lineout was solid. Credit to Herring as well. It could be a big season for him.

Jones went well at No.8 and I was really impressed by Hume. Burns put on a kicking masterclass.

Maybe with a bit more precision we could have racked up another couple of tries...good start though.

On Premier Marcell was interviewed and he said Kings game was the target, hopefully that comes good!

Didn't think he was due back so soon. With Murphy gone our back row is looking bare, so this is great news if true, Coetzee is our best player both in terms of physicality and breakdown work.

Is McCloskey injured or getting an extended rest?

I think Mark Robson mentioned something about an injury. Can't remember what exactly.

He played a lot last season.

McCloskey is one of the first names on the teamsheet but Hume is going great guns so no bad thing for him to get more gametime.

    Herbst back very temporarily.

    Any news regarding Baloucoune's injury?

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,647 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

McCloskey's injury sounds a bit ominous, "lower limb".

Murphy left the field with possible rib injury V Russia. Didn't look great!

Yeah, annoying, he had started well enough

Ulster team to play Toyota Cheetahs, Guinness PRO14 Round 2, Saturday 5 October 2019 at Toyota Stadium (kick-off 6.15pm local time / 5.15pm UK/Irish time):

    (15-9): Matt Faddes; Craig Gilroy, Luke Marshall, James Hume, Rob Lyttle; Bill Johnston, John Cooney;

(1-8): Jack McGrath, Rob Herring (Capt), Tom O’Toole, Kieran Treadwell, Sam Carter, Matthew Rea, Sean Reidy, Greg Jones.

Replacements: John Andrew, Eric O’Sullivan, Ross Kane, Alan O’Connor, Clive Ross, David Shanahan, Michael Lowry, Louis Ludik.

A win here would be huge but the cheetahs looked very good, so we'll need a more complete performance than last week imo.

Looking forward to this. Johnston at 10 will be interesting. Hope Burns isn't injured.

I think this will be tough. At altitude, against a team that has plenty of competitive rugby behind them and the maestro that is Ruan Pienaar at scrum half...I reckon the Cheetahs would have to be favourites.

If we take 6 points from these two games I'd say job done.

Complete and utter rubbish so far.

    Ulster lineout going well

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,485 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

It's a pity cheetahs can't hold this squad for the full season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,956 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

Ulster are playing terribly, and they won't be the last team to wilt in Bloemfontain. If they can actually hold onto the ball they'll score tries but hard to see that happening. Good to see the Cheetahs going well, they can definitely add something to the competition if they can keep their players, their back 3 are box office.

At least with the Cheetahs being competitive it’s good for the league ;)

Ulster going for the Ireland approach of lulling people into a false sense of security

  • Administrators Posts: 53,730 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

They should be told to make their own way home after this.

Absolute shambles, hope they’re all mortified.

Even the most basic tackles are being missed. Players stopped caring at halftime. Truly embarrassing.
