Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If you don't vote you can't complain.

Never missed an election/ref yet. Not intending to start.

    No, I won’t be voting.

I can't wait for the thousands of #hometovote posts on the day......
I'm sure these people wouldn't like to be accused of selective voting.....

I will. I have two - one in Dublin, and one down the home place. So I’ll vote in Dublin in the morning, and head down home in the evening for a vote and a tray of pints afterwards.

I'm not sure. I've had a few candidates coming to the door looking for my number one. They have absolutely no interest in what concerns one has and they dont even make a pretence. You won't see or hear from these people again until they are back to look for your number one in 4 years or whatever. The MEP candidates are the biggest gravy-train merchants going.

Should it also follow that people who vote for the winner are not allowed to complain?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,271 ✭✭✭Thrashssacre

Yep, can’t say I’m inspired to by any of my candidates though.

    I will.

One of our local candidates switched from independent (which is how she got her seat in the first place) to FF a few months back. She didnt step down - which she should have IMO. She wasnt voted in as FF.

So I want to make sure I put her last.

Once you use your franchise, you can do whatever you wish, complain, praise, change your mind etc etc., legitimately.

If you are too lazy to vote..feck off if you wish to complain. Who cares, if you didn't.

What if someone votes at random, having done zero research?

I'll vote in the locals and the referendum anyway. Don't really care about the European Elections.

The process of politics itself, it breeds dishonesty & corruption

Or maybe leave her space blank altogether. You know you don't have to fill in the entire ballot sheet.

More then likely not as I see it all as waste of time but if I had to vote I guess I'd just pick whoever looks less of a **** on there poster!

Actually - I meant to leave them blank after filling everyone else out.

Thats the best move if you DONT want to see someone receive anything through transfer.

I only fill in one box the rest stay blank. All my local reps are clowns. I vote for one and that's through gritted teeth.

If you can't be bothered informing yourself and wish to vote at random you have already decided NOT to vote.
What's the next question...'What if I fire darts at the ballot paper?' ??

    Jesus.

I usually do but this time I just don't know. There's little difference in the local candidates who put some bland ideas on their literature (and the USP of a few of them, according to their posters, is that they are actually local) and the Europeans don't do much. I'd probably vote yes in the referendum.

Last time I voted for an independent on an anti-junket anti-corruption platform and tbf he did raise a stink, but I think he's gone back to the day job

Okay, so we've established it's only informed voting that counts, thanks. I presume you have some definition of what constitutes sufficiently informed voting - e.g., one can't vote for a candidate just because they're physically attractive, or have promised to fix the pothole on your street?

Yip I am going to base my vote on who's posters annoy me the least over the next few weeks
To the local labour fella- you are gone because you have 10 posters in a row on every pole on 1 road in to town

I'm sure all those that were advocating emigres to bend the rules to return for the recent referendums will have no problem with people returning to vote Casey.

They wouldn't want to be hypocrites now would they?

Of course they would , sure don't you know anyone willing to vote for Casey is a racist according to some.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,603 ✭✭✭MrMusician18

    elaborate on that?

"Hello Divorce goodbye daddy" was a No campaign poster in the 95 referendum.

Not sure if their fears proved to be founded. Do father's get custody/equal access in the Irish system?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70,127 ✭✭✭✭FrancieBrady

anyone willing to vote for Casey

I'd have a more basic view of them tbh. Racism requires some degree of cognitive ability after all.

To vote for a candidate in a mostly rural constituency whose only contributionto a debate on farming, is to say 'Look at farming...sure it's (turn palms upward despairingly)....' is just baffling.

I’d like to see a “none of the above” option on the ballot paper. That would truly be democratic.

I will vote a certain way in order to send Varadkar a message:
Don't lie to us and say that you will look after the workers/contributors of this country. Liar.

If enough people vote like this, then the message will get through.
If they don't, then more of the same (lies) will follow.

Your posting from yesterday shows you are anything but honest. The rest of your comment is as always, condescending nonsense due to your inability to accept an opinion at variance to your own.

So what form will this actually take? It's very cryptic.
