    A nice piece by Joyce.

Jurgen Klopp is determined not to waste Rhian Brewster’s talent at Liverpool
The morning after Liverpool’s recent victory over Cardiff City and training was rather low key, the majority of those who had featured the previous day taking part in a recovery session at Melwood.

James Milner had only appeared as a substitute in Wales and so was involved in a more extensive workout on that sunny Easter Monday, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain among those also taking part.

Youngster Rhian Brewster was there too.

As crosses were played into the penalty area, Brewster would suddenly dart towards the front post and dispatch the opportunity. Over and over and over again. Milner and Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is close to the 19-year-old, have long felt that Brewster has the potential to sparkle for Liverpool and the drill appeared to confirm that impression.

They headed inside uttering the phrase, often repeated about Brewster, that “he will score goals”.

Of course, in winning the Golden Boot when England Under-17 triumphed in the World Cup final against Spain in October 2017, the forward has showcased his talent as natural finisher.

Beyond that his qualities revolve around knowing when, and where, to run and his decision-making. Brewster has an efficiency of movement which means he does not waste energy, carrying the confident air of someone prepared to wait until the ball is in an area where he can cast his influence. Then, usually in a blur, he becomes involved.

The question remains as to whether he will receive the chances that Dominic Solanke, for example, did not during his two-year stay at Anfield which ended with a £17 million move to Bournemouth in January.

Liverpool’s attacking triumvirate of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino set an exacting standard and rarely miss matches. However, the sense of anticipation around Brewster, who moved to Liverpool from Chelsea aged 15, feels different.

Daniel Sturridge is expected to leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season and, as has previously been stated, there will not be lavish reinforcements this summer. A step up the pecking order beckons.

Jürgen Klopp, who first took note of the teenager when he scored a hat-trick in a behind-closed-doors game with Accrington Stanley in November 2016, is excited about Brewster for next season.

Brewster was taken to Barcelona this week to experience the Champions League atmosphere Brewster was taken to Barcelona this week to experience the Champions League atmosphereJan Kruger/Getty Images He insisted on the player undergoing his rehabilitation within the first team set-up following an ankle injury sustained playing for Liverpool Under-23 in January 2018. It led to 14 months out as a knee operation, and the setback of an infection, prolonged his recovery.

Klopp’s gesture highlighted his faith, given that it came at a time when contract talks were proving difficult and there were real concerns Brewster would become the latest English whizzkid to move to Germany.

Borussia Mönchengladbach were keen to sign the player last summer when his contract was due to expire, for what would have been a modest compensation fee, and Liverpool were so disgruntled with the Germans’ conduct that they cancelled a pre-season friendly with them. Brewster eventually signed a five-year deal.

Brewster, bottom right, was part of the England team that won the Under-17 World Cup Brewster, bottom right, was part of the England team that won the Under-17 World CupGetty Images Onto this week and Brewster was included in the senior squad which travelled to Barcelona for the Lionel Messi-inspired Champions League defeat.

“He is with us, he is our player and we want to have him around,” said Klopp. “In this case I thought, ‘Come on, it’s Barcelona, let’s give him a first sniff.’”

On the eve of the game, as Liverpool gained their bearings, Brewster could not suppress a smile as he took a video on his mobile phone of the cavernous Nou Camp. He looked like a kid pinching himself in disbelief. Klopp’s instinct is that Brewster has the tools to return in his own right, but for that to happen a pathway must remain open

If it is real, then shame on that bookie who took the bet.

The cashier's probably weren't even paying attention when they took it the.

Getting ahead of myself given Newcastle are next but in regards the Second Leg, I think we're going to see a special reaction. I'm confident enough to say we're going to put a few goals past them. Can we keep them out? Who knows but you can only imagine what Anfield we'll be like on Tuesday; if Messi didn't want to know at Old Trafford (and he clearly didn't) how is he going to handle this?

I think we can rattle the likes of Messi and Coutinho out of it; it's the other whooer that used to wear our jersey I'm more worried about. :pac:

Obviously Barca are favourites of course and its very unlikely but the have taken big defeats away in recent years ,

    Roma 3-0
    Psg 4-0
    Juve 3-0

I think our lads will just want a win for some pride ,

Your ****ed without the away goal. It's over, 3-1 and I'd have said definitely still in it but it's done.

Anyone know if Ki Jana Hoever was playing for Netherlands under 17 in Waterford this evening? (Harry will know...)

Think he's in the squad for the tournament but couldn't find lineups online

He did play, the game was on youtube but didn't know that!

Reading the twitter machine it looks like he had a good game as a progressive ball playing defender - Matip styling.

Liverpool win 4-0 and draw 3-3 AND Man City win 1-0 and lose 1-0

Would be fairly short notice for Klopp to change his plan for Tuesday. :pac: Last game is on Sunday see no reason to rest anyone should Leicester pull off an other worldly stroke against City.

No, I'm still interested personally to see how Barca react to the first half hour at Anfield.

We should be able to manage a home win against wolves if we absolutely have to.

Just looking at the table there and noticed Spurs have lost a third of their games in the league this season and they're in third place. That's a bit mental. Spurs lose 1 in 3 of their games and we lose 1 in 36 of ours and we're 1 place above them. Crazy.

It's not really mental and is a testament to Klopp's long term game; he wanted to match City, and that meant accepting a point gained rather than 3 points lost. It's a testament to Klopp's coaching that we're even in the position that we are.

We've drawn like 7 or 8 games. Some are making this out to be some sort of travesty.

It's because the fixtures unfortunately fell together, which were compounded by a disrupted defence. But some fans won't accept that and seemingly feel we should be on 100 points + already with two games to go.

Everton just a point behind Wolves now, but if Wolves win at home tomorrow against Fulham, they're guaranteed 7th - can't go higher, or lower. So hopefully that'll be their big send off for the season at home, and they'll already have sand in their flipflops when they visit Anfield on the last day.

Just a reminder to everyone that we're all rabid Cardiff fans tomorrow evening - for all the good its likely to do

And if Wolves win tomorrow it kills off any slim chance Brendan has at getting European football by finishing 7th.

So Brendan has nothing really to play for against Pep only ego.

For him thats plenty though I think. It's probably his biggest motivating factor as a person!

And for his team, he's still a new manager for them, with a rake of cash at his disposal this summer - they're all playing for places still.

Vardy loves playing against Man City too.

Not worried about them putting a shift in, regardless what's going on in the league table around them.

If we win against Newcastle and City drop points on Monday, I'd play Mignolet, Moreno, Sturridge along with a couple of young lads against Barca.

Seriously? not impressive overall? only for him we would of being knocked out against Napoli in the group stages

Well then, perhaps not as impressive as his c.v. suggested. He possesses a heavy physique - though not in an unfit sense - and seems not the most athletic or agile when diving or leaping.

Yeah, would be great to see Brewster get 10 minutes if we put either of these league games to bed early on.

If not, will be nice to see him feature heavily in preseason.

No it doesn't. If wolves win tomorrow then Leicester can get to within 3 points of them again with a win vs City and still be able to pass them on the last day.

Ideal for us (providing we win on Saturday) is a wolves win and a Leicester draw guaranteeing wolves finish 7th and we win the league if we beat them on the last day.

Not going to happen, but it's optimal.

All the amateur psychologists in here is funny, if they beat them, then they won't need to beat those and that'll will help us etc etc... Lots of waffle tbh. Especially worrying about what Wolves are up to before we play them, let's just worry about Newcastle tomorrow night for starters before all the permutations come out.

At times it's waffle, but we do see teams literally just stop playing once they're safe every year (or have nothing to play for). Not every team, but enough that it's hard not to consider it.

As far as thinking about future permutations, I mean, it's one game away... hardly too mentally taxing. And it's not like we have anything else to be doing with ourselves if we're all on here chatting nonsense to begin with.

Do you want to post what we can talk about on a daily basis or do you want to do it on a weekly basis?

It'd be good for us to have clarity on the situation.

Have to say from a fan's point of view, I really enjoy the later evening kick-offs.

I would imagine Liverpool have to bit a bit more used to these as well than Newcastle.

I'm with him on that one, stupid suggestion to go up for a corner with a whole game left to play, they broke from that corner too but didn't finish the chance, if there'd been no goalkeeper we'd be 4 down now.

Yeah wolves winning their second last game so they are totally open to losing against us in their last while also facilitating Leicester not needing anything off City is beyond a permutation IMO....its daft waffle.

Rafa was fighting a bigger fight than we all appreciated at the time. And nobody in their right mind wanted him replaced with Roy H. That’s a real slight on someone as brilliant as Rafa. As I said, hope he’s let it pass!

I think Wolves are going to be up to play us regardless as they always are up for the big games.
I don't have much faith in Leicester. City have nothing to shift their focus from and are beating them & Brighton away from a league ain't a huge obstacle.

Will hold my hands up to that one. It was an all round **** time due to disappointment on the pitch and the tug of war between Rafa and the bad Yanks.

However, never in my wildest dreams did I want Hodgson as a replacement; the lunatics had taken over the asylum with that one. In hindsight I wish we had stuck with Rafa.

He was a good coach, he was just buried by his signings. Allen, Sakho, the Suarez replacements. He is a solid manager, just needs someone to pick the players for him.

I wish him all the best this weekend!

Always felt bad for Rafa, finished second in the league and then ends up with Kyrgiakos & Maxi Rodriguez. Granted they put in some good performances, but for a team that got within touching distance of the title is that really the kind of backing you should be giving the manager? Still feel like that would have been it for that season if we hadn't sold Alonso.
