no, we'd all have been incredulous that someone had paid as much as €8M. I would probably have chimed in with "The bubble's got to burst soon"

    Can players still leave England?

If so any chance Erikson & or Pogba could still leave if Madrid come in with a big enough offer?

Yep that can happen think until 2nd sept. United may yet win the much coveted net spend award this summer!

Andy Carroll signing for Liverpool for a cost of £35m back in 2011 which made him the 8th most expensive signing ever at the time, was pretty eye opening. Was thinking even back then that money doesn’t get you much in the footballing world.

It was a crazy amount. But two things for me make it a lot less bad looking back. Torres left for more than that and Liverpool needed a striker to come in on deadline day. That added at least 10 million to his 'market value'.
And secondly Liverpool got 17 million from West Ham as part of moving him on.

It was still a terrible value for money signing. But not as bad within that context.

Apparently Kevin Danso is the last incoming deal of the summer transfer window. Southampton have all the paperwork sorted and filed properly with the English FA but Ausburg havent quite filed it fully yet with the German FA. No problem with the deal and it will be announced in the morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I remember Danso played well when Augsburg beat Dortmund, but he was also part of the side that were hammered 8-1 by Wolfsburg on the final day of the season. Apparently it's a loan signing with an option to buy which is a smart call.

Speaking of loans, I like the Mooy signing by Brighton. They've been quietly putting together a nice window.

It's almost as if Liverpool fans are not just Liverpool fans but fans of football, in general. Discussing other clubs transfers? Terrible bunch.

United fans are too busy looking forward to summer transfer window 2022. By that stage the club will of addressed central midfield , right midfield, offloaded players not good enough and our young players will of matured into the potential we know to be true.. Woodward has also promised a Director of football before 2035, these are exciting times.

DM's reporting PSG are going to offer Dybala £11M a year. If you keep making ludicrous demands someone's bound to bite I guess.

Perisic to Bayern. €5m loan fee with €20m option to buy.

Is this the guy United tried to buy last year and Inter wanted stupid money for him?

There is a lot of talk in Spain today suggesting that Real are closer to signing Neymar than Barca, Leonardo has also confirmed they are in discussions to sell him, he didnt confirm who to though

It was the year before last when Utd made an offer for him of around €45m but Inter wanted €50m. At the time he was first choice, Inter wanted to keep him and he wasn't agitating for a move. Since then he has been average at best for Inter, requested a transfer and played a part in the Icardi saga so the club want rid of him, plus he is 30 now so that plays a part in his valuation going down too.

I see Fiorentina signed Erick Pulgar from Bologna for £9m. Think that's a very shrewd signing. He played well in Serie A last season and had a good Copa America with Chile.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,022 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Big fan of Lozano, think he'd do well at Napoli.

Coutinho would be a good move for Munich, if not quite as good a move for him. Had kind of thought he'd try to tough it out there for one more year and see if he could make something happen.

Image rights... This generations third party ownership.

Image rights... This generations third party ownership.

With Napoli its more complicated as they expect the players they sign to hand over their image rights to the club when they sign which is kinda nuts. It's also cost them a lot of signings. You get a better contract tax wise to sign for Italian clubs now, especially down south in Naples but it wouldn't make up for waiving your image rights.

Keep seeing Neymar to Real links. Surely him and Hazard play the same position, left of a front 3?

Not that it would stop Real mind.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

IF that happens Bale will go to PSG.

so coutinho deal is basically sell with the fee paid next year or pay a loan fee for two years. Either way Barcelona want him out the door and are going to lose their shirt's on the deal.

Hazard is just as effective playing centrally though. And with the 2 of them as good as they are they’d create so much space for each other so they’d likely be very fluid anyway.

Betis finally got their man with Borja Iglesias, 28 million and comes with 20 goals scored for Espanyol last season. We finally have a goal scorer. Alex Moreno looks to be coming from Vallecano as well , talented full-back.

Wissam Ben Yedder gone to Monaco from Sevilla for €40m. That looks quite the coup for Monaco given their recent woes. Rony Lopes is making a move the other way for €20m. He was probably Monaco's best player in 17-18. Not as good last season but showed moments of quality. Interested to see how he gets on in La Liga.

Good deal for sure. Ben Yedder is 29 now so he wasn't likely to get a move to a top tier side at this stage, despite his goal returns. I'd say he'll do very well in France - Monaco certainly need him to.

Jeff-Reine Adelaide gone to Lyon for €25m from Angers, beating Monaco to his signature. He was once on Arsenal's books and they're getting around £5m from the sell-on fee.

Think that's a class signing. He was one of France's best players at the U-21 Euros and got a goal and assist for Angers in their season opener. Can see him having a big season.

Neymar ready to take a €15m paycut to rejoin Barca.

From €38m net a year to €23m net a year.

He might struggle to pay his mortgage losing that income.

Weird Coutinho moving there. Much more of a loose cannon than James on the pitch and doesn't really fit in with them and how they've seemingly wanted to play the last few years. I guess their pitiful showing in the CL last season has them scampering a bit.

Plus they seemed confident of getting Sane until his injury so Coutinho is probably a handy alternative for them even though they are very different players.

Coutinho immediately becomes one of their absolute best players, so it's well worth it for them - he's good enough that they can structure things around him for the year. He'll decimate the Bundesliga, and be an excellent threat in Europe, much more-so than James ever was. Could see him working very well with Gnabry, Coman, Thiago, and Lewendowski.

It is strange that coutinho is happy to can his dream move after a difficult first season? You'd imagine valverde is gone by next summer so maybe he will chance his arm at barca next season.

Meh, Coutinho isn’t what some Liverpool fans think he is. Got found out last year, he’s not a difference maker at the sharp end of elite competition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,912 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Coutinho must have been told straight out he won't get game time and isn't wanted or you would imagine he would have stayed to fight for a place after the fuss he caused to get the move there.

So much for his friend Luis who helped persuade him to move fighting his corner with Messi.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,304 ✭✭✭Widdensushi

I know they backtracked but it was widely reported first that they took his Jersey number off him, that's a bit more of a hint, any details of the deal, is it loan with a near compulsory buy after a year that was supposed to happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,403 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

He’s not good enough. Barca are offloading him because they have a big “name” player who isn’t at the level they require and he needs to be offsite.

The fee Liverpool got for him is scandalous. I expect this move to Bayern is the start of a lot of moves on the downslope of a career that never got where it was supposed to go.

I usually agree with your posts Lloyd but there's a lot of undue ill will in this one.

I hope it works out for him at Bayern. Still young and will surely get the chance there to show his talent again.

I dunno, I kind of agree with Lloyd tbh. Barca wasted their Neymar money on Dembele and Coutinho who just weren't worth the big fees shelled out on them.

Not saying he's not talented and he can definitely rebuild at Bayern but he was never going to be value for money.

I dunno if Pool fans have THAT much ill will towards him either, his sale was a large part of funding for their current team tbf.

12 goals & 8 assists in 18 starts all comps for Liverpool before he joined Barca. Whatever position you play, that's an excellent return.

Granted, Liverpool's team overall improved after he left, but for an individual that is excellent. He's a top player.

I'd agree with this, he's got a good highlight reel but at the sharp end of it he's not good enough. Liverpool got him for very good value and he clicked for a spell. Barca significantly overpaid for him, he'll do well in the Bundesliga but it's Bayern in the Bundesliga, he almost can't not do well. His acid test will be Europe where I think he'll be found out in the latter stages

Was Coutinho played to his strength at Barca? Don't think so.

He was top drawer at Liverpool and would still be had he stayed. Saying that he wasn't missed.
