Worth a match thread? Ireland U-17s kick off their Euros tournament campaign this evening at Tallaght Stadium and RTE2 are broadcasting it. Team news:

Looking forward to seeing Bazunu in goal having heard a lot about him.

Hopefully a winning start for us.

Good to see RTE showing it. Ill get down to the Ireland game at the RSC on Monday so hopefully they will have a win under their belts going into that game.

I taught Andrew Omobamidele in primary school. He seems to be doing very well at Norwich. A good lad who always stood out in all sports. I'll be watching for sure.

If the u17s have foreign born non Irish players then that's crackers*. This is a matter for debate on a different thread but really it shouldn't be on. I notice only four of the squad are based on Ireland as well but that's more understandable.

*yes I know the English players will have the right through blood.

Great to see a Virginia man starting in Green tonight.

    Poor enough crowd at it.

Disappointing enough looking crowd. Only one stand open it looks like.

    Who is the Virginia lad?

Greeks dont look great. An Ireland goal soon could set up a comfortable win if Greece continue to play so poorly. Credit to Ireland for keeping the pressure on them and how good is it to see an Ireland team play the ball around.

What a chance! Beautifully floated dink straight to a free man at the back stick. Ireland dominating this.

Playing well so far. Keeping the ball on the ground, lots of good running and link up play.

We're playing some nice stuff. Ebosele looks an exciting prospect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,650 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Ebesoele would want to learn to pass the ball. Very selfish.

Same night as LOI wouldn't be helping too much.

You could hear the boots colliding there.

No point in complaining about the crowd, it's LOI night, it's on free tv and Everton are playing.

    Our centre mids are good.

Reasons one and two are fine the last one is the sad part. Some people would rather watch Everton than our own players play in a championship. I understand its just the U17s but id still rather watch this than an PL game.

Mcevoy,No2, tough call for the young lad, missing the N I cup final tomorrow with Ballinamallard

Decent half for Ireland, though the Greeks were getting on top near the end of it. Joe Hodge looks a tidy player in central midfield. Sobowale looks strong at the back. Just missing the cutting edge up top. Real pity that Parrott's not here.

1-0 Ireland! Everitt with the goal from close range.

    Wahey!

    Deserved on balance.

Do they use goal line technology in this comp actually?

I'm more impressed with Festy as a first name. Imagine his ma calling him in for his dinner in a Dublin accent

Irish right back having a comically bad game - just one of those days where it’s all going wrong for him - not for the lack of trying of course!

Ireland haven’t been great but any win here sets them up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Pity Everitt got the weight of the pass wrong on the break as a second goal would have surely finished it. Hopefully we can see the final minutes out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Ah ffs. Greeks equalise in the last seconds.

Literally the last kick of the game FFS!

Don't think he was off. Was just defended poorly. Greeks kept it in the mixer and it broke for them. Irish lad touched the ball straight into the scorer's path.

If our fullback doesn’t play that, then surely the ball goes to the offside player?

    Is that still not offside?

    Genuine question by the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Real shame it ended like that as it takes the wind out of our sails. Thought Hodge, Everitt and Ebosele stood out. Our best stuff came in the first half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,326 ✭✭✭alta stare

Tough to take that considering they played well. We seriously need to take our chances when we get them as things like this seem to usually catch us out.

Could be deemed the offside player is interfering with play, so a referee could!! give a free out

Jaysus, McEvoy touches the ball to the Greek attacker for the equaliser. Poor kid.

That's a gut punch for them as a group.

Harsh ending. Very frustrating in the second half but we were the better side. Impressed with Ebosele, he looked dangerous and has skill. These guys are kids really but some of them have great potential. Looking forward to seeing them on Monday. Need to close out these close games and not concede at the end like tonight.

Great engine on him too, was all over the field at times. Bit selfish with some of his decisions, but looked a cut above most.
