We have already seen Cape Town nearly run out of water. Cities like Atlanta, Sydney, Beijing, Cairo, Mexico City, Moscow will all likely experience major water shortages over next few years.

More people = more water being abstracted and used up. Water used for washing cars and irrigating millions of acres of arable crops and almond trees and feed lots. Cities like Las Vegas which use trillions of litres just for entertainment. In industrial food processing to watering golf courses to even some countries diverting rivers before they reach other countries that need the water too.

The screaming eejits claiming we all about to die in 12 years or whatever. That's just an example but yeah there is hysteria. Go take a look online.

    Name one.

How do you know the drought is unprecedented? How do you know Lake Mead has reached it`s lowest level? Did the native Americans keep accurate records? Even if you are right about Lake Mead and lack of water in major cities, the issue is population growth and not warming.

Are we here to hand feed or is that just looking for a reaction? I said look it up if dont believe anyone. The hysteria is emblazoned all over the official banners by extinction rebellion bunch and claimed by their adherents with "12 years to save earth" (sic). Even some of the IPCC climate scientist have been asking for putting a stop to this stupid hysteria.

For example this is Miss Thunberg
Around the year 2030, 10 years 252 days and 10 hours away from now, we will be in a position where we set off an irreversible chain reaction beyond human control, that will most likely lead to the end of our civilisation as we know it."

This is what one of the scientists responsible for the IPCC report said.
Please stop saying something globally bad is going to happen in 2030. Bad stuff is already happening and every half a degree of warming matters, but the IPCC does not draw a “planetary boundary” at 1.5°C beyond which lie climate dragons.

    And again an independent scientist
As much as climate scientists see the necessity for broad and immediate action to address global warming, they do not agree on an imminent point of no return. The (IPCC) panel “did not say we have 12 years left to save the world.”...

The age of reason followed that of religous belief. Unfortunately we have those who have made up their own religion of 'reason' and this has little if anything to do with anything the scientists are actually saying

Planet Earths climate has never been static, its never stayed the same, indeed its been changing constantly since the planet was formed, so yes, I do believe in climate change, only question is "to what degree" we have contributed to the current warming?

    10% 20% 30% 40% man made contribution?

Don't forget solar activity either (sun spots & solar winds).

There are interpretations of it. Some scientists are claiming there will be e.g. a "point of no return" in 2035
    https://www.egu.eu/news/428/deadline-for-climate-action-act-strongly-before-2035-to-keep-warming-below-2c/

    Others dispute that

From a purely logical perspective there is little to be gained and almost everything to be lost in ignoring such warnings

Acting too soon is far better than acting too late. And economic costs? well it's pretty clear we have to act anyway regardless of the scientific dispute over the "point of no return"

TLDR it's far, far more preferable that we are "hysterical" and act too soon, rather than too late.

I like a mix of all news to make up my own mind.
    Rte, BBC, fox news, RT
Big fan is David icke and Gemma o Dwyer always have very interesting points of view on current events.

Did you mean to say Gemma O'Doherty?

If so, that doesn't surprise me. Not in the slightest.

Also, Fox News? And you are talking about sheep???

Surly David icke is the most astonishing name on that list. He's a millionaire because of poor education standards.

'From a purely logical perspective there is little to be gained and almost everything to be lost in getting hysterical about it' to the point we have children and some adults believing they are going to die in 12 years / just 12 years to save earth or whatever and others smashing up windows of buildings in London etc etc . We are talking about hysterics here and that's just some examples btw. You're familiar with the other recent thread where all this was endlessly trashed over already.

TLDR???? You know that means 'too long didn't read'? I wrote one short paragraph! No worries whatever. Thanks.

Again you've been let down by poor education standards.

I mean you call people sheep... Yet you follow David icke. You believe in a man that once called himself the second coming of jesus Christ.

Again I generally feel sorry for you. Education standards may have failed you, but you have to also take responsibility for letting yourself down like this.

It's a debating board. "Look it up" is a poor debating tactic. It's up to you to back up your claims.

Miss T is nothing short of a disaster from a PR side of things. A 16 year old from socialist Sweden jetsetting around the World, talking to the already-converted. She says nothing new or interesting at all. If she's what those of us on the Climate Change acceptance side of the debate are pushing then imo we've lost the debate, not that there should even be one.

Yes because this whole 12 year malarky is nonsense. These people are great for deniers like you as you can use them to deflect from the actual science, which doesn't back up your views.

I dunno if you've noticed but there are estates being built with not a single chimney to be seen. They all use heat pumps. Condenser gas boilers are now old tech.

Well that's good to know, I hadn't seen them. Must check out the social housing being built in Derry with all solar panels, see if they have chimneys, I hadn't even looked.
But I have also seen quite a few new built detached houses going up recently and they all appear to have chimneys.

It's a discussion board not a 'debating" board if you wish to get pedantic tbh. If it was a 'debating' board most of the replies wouldn't get in the door. Its when there is the more than usual bs "prove it" lazy arsed needling type bs comments.

Of course its nonsense and it's just one example of the nonsnse. 'My views'? What are my views? Other than the hysterics been pushed or equated as science is nothing short of bs?

Ok. Can you show some expert opinion which supports your position that alarmed people are being hysterical. Because, if not, and if you're not qualified to declare this yourself, then all you are doing is giving anecdotal evidence which is of no value.

What you have is an opinion (which you are entitled to have) but policy should not be based on opinions but on fact.

The science bit. But this solar physicist with an algorithm of 96% accuracy says we are heading into an ice age and she is trying to warn people. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=M_yqIj38UmY

Unless the biggest polluters pay and change their ways then it's all but pointless.

The carbon tax that all of the green crowd are walking us into won't change anything apart from the government will have more money to piss away and the normal Joe soap will have less in his pocket.

    I'm not buying this solution

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,461 ✭✭✭NewClareman

I seen the statute moving with my own eyes on two occasions.
I don't need a scientific report to prove it.
    I know what I saw

Well done, you used your own eyes.

It's an example of the "12 years to save the world" type stuff being pushed . As in the last post - this is what one scientist said about that
As much as climate scientists see the necessity for broad and immediate action to address global warming, they do not agree on an imminent point of no return. The (IPCC) panel “did not say we have 12 years left to save the world.”.

The point is it's all hysteria which even some scientists are saying it much of what's being pushed is bs. The same scientist who was asking for protestors to stop using hysteria also related his experience of another 11 year old who was frightened out of her mind with fear after listening / watching some of this stuff that doomsday was upon us. I'll see if I can find the link again.
