So the new Garmin 530 and 830 are out. And the Wahoo Roam. What do you all think of them?

I have a 5 year old edge 510 and it still works grand but I fancy an upgrade (bigger screen, proper routing & maps, wifi, phone messages on screen etc would be nice). I didn't think the 520 was worth an upgrade and some people had battery issues also. But the 530 and 830 look interesting. DC rainmaker reckons the 530 is the better deal.

I was hoping for more from the new Wahoo but the Roam isn't convincing me to make the jump over. The screen is a bit disappointing. Reviews says its slow and a gen behind the new Garmins.

So what do you think and if you are upgrading, which one would you go for?

I was hoping for a bigger screen on the 530/830 but wouldn't be interested in something as big as the 1030. Sigma and Lezyne have some new models which are probably decent also.

Have an elemnt bolt, which I'm happy, but some of the mapping features of the 530 and 830 have me interested. A couple of times recently I could've done with on computer routing. The 1030 external battery will work with 530 and 830 - it was battery life that pushed me to the bolt over the 520/ 520plus. I'm underwhelmed by what I've read/ heard/ seen of the Roam.

I generally trust DC Rainmaker and GP Llama. They've covered both the Garmin releases and Roam in their recent Fit File podcasts.

What sort of length would you get out of a 530? Will it do a mixed terrain 200 with the map route running?

Very few people actually have a 530 at the moment, DCRainmaker has though and he's been doing some battery life tests, check out #2 at the link below

The 530 will also work with garmin's new charge pack which fits nicely on the out front mount

He got 40 hours or there abouts but says the test is flawed. Say's he is going to rig up something to test again

I want a separate Garmin for my computer so haven't decided to go for the newish Edge 130 or use my existing Edge 820 (which I like despite generally negative reviews) and buy the new Edge 830 for the road bike
