The gardai are useless so don't bother with them

Don't start me off now. Had my wallet stolen in a Starbucks a few weeks back. Nothing handed in to the cafe, so I report it to the Gardaí. Gardaí go over, don't bother collecting CCTV, but a few days later the cafe phone to tell me that they found my wallet down the back of a sofa, bit of cash gone (but delighted I got my cards back). Gardaí notified.

Last week I get a call from the Guards saying "Sorry, we've conducted a thorough investigation but there are no leads and the investigation is closed". I told them I got my wallet back and that they'd been told about it. The Guard who rang was lovely about it, and sounded delighted that it could now be recorded as a 'solved crime'.

He's great at spin, in fairness. He even manages to placate Ivan Yates, who is a regular user of Irish Rail and knows how sh1te the service can be.

No hope of Duffy managing to outsmart him.

A friend of ours always carries a travel size hairspray in her pocket. Has used it effectively on a few occasions and legged it from the danger.

No doubt she would be arrested for assault in the end, but she doesn't care. Hairspray is legal.

I grew up on the most religiously diverse little road in Oireland in the 60s, we had Methodists, Presbyterians, COI, Jews, RC, even Muslims and Baptists on adjoining road, but there wasn’t a Jehovah’s Witness or at least one we knew about even though their Kingdom Hall was not far away.
