Help Choosing Broadband Provider - Non SIRO

    Hello all,

I have recently moved into a new place and the landlord isn't too keen on a SIRO connection. That's a battle I'll fight at a later date, but for now I'm looking for any opinions on the best option I have right now. I have a landline connection.

Anything approaching a stable 50mb+ connection would be plenty for me (so long as I can stream my sport without an issue I'm happy!), and Virgin isn't an option at my address.

From my own research, the Vodafone Simply Broadband package of 100mb with a yearly cost of €450 and no installation fees seems to be my best option. However, is this package even still in existence? I've seen it advertised on some old websites and the likes of Bonkers, but on the Vodafone website they only seem to be pushing SIRO.

Any help, guidance or suggestions here would be very much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Paully

Use this to see what you'll actually be able to avail of:
    https://www.airwire.ie/index.php/avail

If you're in a SIRO area vodafone will preferably offer that as its much better for a similar price.

Thanks Ed, that’s a very useful link.

Contrary to what I thought, SIRO is coming up as unavailable there, with FTTH my best option.

Probably a stupid question, but does this then mean all of those suppliers who use the same line (Eir, Vodafone and Sky) will be able to offer me FTTH broadband?

I know Eir has an awful rep but I’ve had a relatively excellent experience with them for the last few years in my current residence, however, it's very expensive compared to the Vodafone offering, as is Sky. Vodafone for example is €25 for 6 months and €50 thereafter, whereas Eir is €41 for 6 months and €66 thereafter

I’ll pick up the phone to Vodafone and see what the story is. Are there any others you guys would recommend for FTTH or are they all much of a muchness?

If the landlord is not keen on a SIRO connection he may not be keen on an open eir FTTH connection which, depending on cabling, may require drilling of an exterior wall and will require new equipment to be installed inside the premises.

Well. It is the Airwire product check.

Meaning Airwire will be able to service you there ;)

    That's a very good point.

If that is the case, what sort of options am I left with?

    Many thanks.

Your option is whatever you can get through your landline connection. Most if not all of these ISPs should be able to provide you a service through the phone line (FTTC aka VDSL).

If you have a number on the line you can enter it here and it should tell you what speed to expect.
