Shes an utter gob****e. How could she possibly think she would get away with it considering her social media posts? In line with Alan Farrells ridicoulous claim I wonder are there any other high ranking officials chasing scandalous claims. It just seems so brazen and I know she has been photographed at the same hotel since.

Im still furious. Nothing but a resignation and a criminal charge will suffice.

I'm left wondering about the integrity of Madigans too.

I'm gonna chalk it down to arrogance, a prime example of them just thinking they'd get away with it, easy money all around.

There is serious questions over how Mother Superior Madigan was running her solicitors practice. She is being sued by not one but five different banks over solicitors undertakings she gave them but didnt fulfill. A solicitors undertaking is basically like a bond, it is their word that they will preform what it says on the undertaking so to break it immediately all other solicitors would see her as untrustworthy.

ULSTER BANK HAS initiated a High Court action against Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Josepha Madigan. The bank lodged proceedings against the Dublin Rathdown TD and her brother Patrick on Wednesday. It is currently unclear what the exact nature of the legal proceedings are.

It is the latest in a series of cases involving the Minister and her brother that are currently before the courts. Affadavits were filed in a High Court case involving Bank of Scotland in November, while proceedings were also initiated against the siblings by Bank of Ireland last August

A third case was initiated by KBC in December 2017, and the latest hearing of a case involving AIB is due to take place on 29 January. Madigan, a qualified solicitor, specialised in family law and civil litigation at her family’s law firm alongside her brother Patrick before she was elected to Dáil Éireann in 2016.

So thats Ulster Bank, KBC, AIB, Bank of Ireland and Bank of Scotland all suing her. All she needs now is for Permanent TSB to sue too and then she has the clean sweep of Irish banks and can call out bingo.

The old Blueshirt Lowry might be able to advise her

Independent reporting that she has withdrawn her claim for compensation.

I reckon her pictures on social media of running 10k did it for her.

Yes the whole system relies on solicitors undertaking.
To fail to carry out these undertakings across multiple deals is very serious.

To be honest, from what I've seen of Bailey's lack of foresight and gumption so far, I'd be surprised if she's the one actually penning these statements, she quite possibly is lacking the iq to do so herself.

I would normally assume a legal team would be stepping in and writing statements on behalf of schmucks who aren't the most bubbly can in the fridge, but seeing the absolutely ludicrous grounds given for pursuing this claim, I'm left wondering about the integrity of Madigans too.

I'm gonna chalk it down to arrogance, a prime example of them just thinking they'd get away with it, easy money all around.

You would think she would go with the repentant angle, learning from mistakes etc? Or say she was 'ill-advised' or something along those lines?
    Donation to charity or something!
I don't understand the strategy or does she have one?
I thought politicians were supposed to be 'people savvy' ?

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Claiming you couldn't run for months but yet ran 3 weeks later is not a mistake or being ill advised. It is someone knowingly lying to enrich themselves by committing fraud. Will she face any consequences? I would bet 100 euro she won't.

She will have to file a notice of discontinuance to the court. The defendant in the matter can make an application for costs upon receipt of the notice.

Can the hotel then sue her for anything? Deformation etc ?

In an interview in the Sunday Independent, the politician says she now wants to "draw a line in the sand" on the issue and concentrate on representing her constituency in the Dail.

"As far as I am concerned this matter is now closed," she said.

I can’t get over the neck on her. The matter is far from closed, she lodged a fraudulent claim for compensation and questions have to be answered. I hope there are a few dogged journalists who pursue this case.

I would be delighted if the judge refused to allow her to withdraw the case and made her appear in court and explain the lies she told.

She deserves to be sacked immediately!

They should get those costs in full plus a bit extra for the stress the lying bitch caused

Greed is an awful trait to have. Pure and utter greed from this woman has hopefully ruined her political career.

Ashamed to have a woman like this representing my constituency.

I dunno what the case was but know that Aer Lingus was her employer and it was in the High Court so mega moolah. Theres not much other details available online about it.

20k says the Mail on Sunday, that should soften her cough. Shes gonna have to ask her buddy Madigan for a dig out. Strangely her other pal Kate o'Connell TD who is a small business owner has been awfully quiet on this one.

It seems Miss Madigan has her own worries to contend with. Maria may not be a priority.

This isn't a new phenomenon but it has served to highlight a major issue with the rise of insurance premiums.

Claims like this are coming from every demographic.

Did anyone see the one where a lad tried to sue a shop in Dundrum because the security guard stopped his mate. The claimant said he was publicly humiliated and was seeking damages for it.

He was a 25 year old scobe.

This is an elected official of the state.

People are rightly outraged and we need everyone that suspects someone is making a bogey claim to report it to insurance confidential. For every case like this that amounts to nothing there are scores that get paid out or that are settled out of court by insurers to try and save money.

The tide is turning though, slowly but surely its turning.

EDITED - I unblocked the paywall. It doesn't say much.

She said she has decided to withdraw the case because “the past week has been very difficult for my family” and is a distraction from political work.

“As far as I am concerned this matter is now closed,” she said.

The TD did not respond to queries from The Sunday Times last week about a personal injuries action filed in the name of Maria Bailey against Aer Lingus, her former employer, in 2004.

The case did not go to court and was either settled or withdrawn. Aer Lingus declined to comment.

Bailey began working for Aer Lingus in 2000 as a member of theairline’s ground staff. In a 2015 interview about her life as a migraine sufferer, she said she “loved” her job with the airline but the hours were “erratic and that was bad for my sleep pattern”.

It's likely she'll have to pay them too. When you bring it to court you open yourself up yo liability for costs and given that she has retracted the claim based on today's report, I dont think a judge will have any issue awarding costs.

Her father, John Bailey, topped the poll in 2014 with 2,423 first preference votes and was elected on the first count. This time round he got 1,504 first preference votes coming in 3rd behind a Green and FF candidate who exceeded the quota of 1,952.

Apparently her Political Career is in the Balance !

Can Leo Swing Her Equilibrium ?

Can Maria and Leo get a Grip ?

Will she be able to hang on ?

Will Leo have to give her a Push ?

Will she take a fall ?

She is very precariously situated !

She will have to weigh up the Swings and Slings of Public Opinion !

    Swing Low Sweet Chariot !

She has withdrawn her claim. She was entitled to make it. She was entitled to withdraw it. The law is the same for everyone. If it has weaknesses, legislation should rectify it. The were some inadvertent errors in her submission - that happens at times, even with the best care and will in the world. Don't read too much into that.
The press hounding and jump to conclusions was very stressful - and people should consider how they have contributed to someone having to reverse on their legal rights as a result.
As Maria says, the matter is now closed. No further comment will be made.
