Second Sub

    Hi Folks,

I have a 7.2 Amp with one sub at the moment (a Kef 2500).

I'm considering getting a second sub. There seems to be a lot of conflicting advice about how best to integrate a second sub into a surround system (should both be the same model/manufacturer/sealed etc).

The Rel T9i from your website looks very tempting (and is on sale) - it's sealed (like the Kef 2500), but I'm wondering should I be looking at getting a Kef sub instead and will the Rel be unbalanced.

Appreciate this might not be easy to answer, but wondering if you've any experience of having 2 different subs in your listening room or something?

    Hi facehugger99,

Apologies for the delay getting back to you.

There is a lot of debate on whether to keep the subs the same manufacturer. I would definitely agree with keeping the speakers the same to match tone but I don;t think it's a big deal with subs as you're dealing with bass frequencies. I would recommend getting one which is similar in power and frequency range to the Kef as it would be easier to use the tone controls to integrate it into the system and it won;t be overpowered or overbearing depending on the sub you choose.

Do you know the specs of the Tannoy sub and I can look for a similar one. Although saying that the Rerl T9i would match well with most systems.

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

    David

    Hi facehugger99,

It is a Kef! I don't know where I got Tannoy from!

I would actually recommend something like the Monitor Audio Bronze W10 which is quite similar in spec. It has a 10" driver with 220W of power, a lower frequency limit of 30Hz which extends to 120Hz. It retails at £499 but I can do you a Boardie price of £455 including shipping.

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

    David

    Sounds good to me David.

Ideally I'm trying to time ordering it for it to arrive on a Thur or Fri - would I be better waiting until Mon or Tues next week to order?
