Is it straight sale only with Tesla or is there a procedure for part exchanges?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,929 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

You can request a quote off Tesla for your car as a trade-in but from all the feedback here you are going to get the lowest of low value.
Tesla's way of saying they are not interested in reselling a trade-in.

In the UK they will accept a Tesla trade in if you are the original purchaser from new only and then sell on via CPO on their website.
They must offer decent money as they have a lot of CPO stock

    Yes to both.
They do offer you a part ex but the offer they give you is akin to insulting your mother to your face.

Has anyone actually gone through this process (trade in)
They've sent me an offer called "net trade in credit", but I'm trying to understand if this includes paying off the finance on my car too?

Anyone know the status of the Superchargers that are greyed out and show as "2020"
Any of them actually being built -> thanks.

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,895 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

No, they are like that for years on the map without progress.

Tesla seem to be installing a lot of new V3 superchargers in the UK at the moment and sharing installs and costs with Ecotricity.
Wonder if they will do similar here with the likes of easygo?

I thought that was down to the court case between Ecotricity and Tesla. I expect sharing the costs is Tesla are paying for the Ecotricity work to allow them to push through the exclusivity deals.
Rhodri Thompson QC and Nicholas Gibson have been acting as specialist competition counsel for the claimants in Ecotricity Group Ltd & The Electric Highway Company Ltd v Tesla Motors Inc & Tesla Motors Netherlands BV. Green energy supplier Ecotricity filed for an injunction against Tesla at the High Court in May 2014, alleging that Tesla was seeking to procure that operators of motorway service stations break their exclusive contracts with Ecotricity to supply charging services for electric vehicles. In its counterclaim, Tesla challenged on competition law grounds the exclusivity of Ecotricity’s electric vehicle charging network at motorway service stations. The case was set to apply competition law to exclusive agreements for the use of land with important implications for the growing market for electric vehicles as well, and was highlighted by The Lawyer as one of the ‘Top 20 cases of 2015’. An out of court settlement has now been reached between the parties, the terms of which are confidential.

It's in terms of the out of court settlement I'd say, whatever it is. Either Tesla are paying as compensation, or they agreed shared costs.
They are installing V3 superchargers and Ecotricity CCS only units (as per planning docs) right beside each other.
Usually there's say 8 Tesla and 6 Ecotricity, or 12 Tesla and 10 Ecotricity, on the planning docs I saw.

Didnt realise we were providing much here for Tesla.

    Snippet
"Siptu organiser Joe Kelly said the company explained that the reason for the impending closure was the loss of a contract to produce electric air heaters for car manufacturer Tesla, which constitutes 80% of its production capacity at the plant in Tralee. It added that maintaining the remaining 20% of its operations in Tralee was not viable."

Whatever gets us more, I’m happy with. Difference in high power chargers is huge, took 60kWh yesterday while getting grub at the Galway Plaza, flew in

Yeah, hopefully someone somewhere in Tesla gets a prod from Elon over it, even to at least get it on the radar again, and to to get some progress made...

Regarding the proposed Sandyford Supercharger, will it actually be located at their Service Centre? as it seems a little off the beaten track in my opinion.... I know it's still quite close to the M50, but surely there are better locations for it? Whats to do around Sandyford industrial estate? (besides going to look at new Tesla's).

And re higher power chargers, yes, fully agree. I arrived at Castlebellingham 2 weeks ago at 18% and was up to 55% in what seemed like only 10-12 minutes....

This thread will be hilarious in 5-10 years time.

Tesla will either be super profitable on its own or (more likely IMO) be bought by someone not currently in the mobility space with a large cash pile and a reputation for closed loop e2e systems with proprietary connectors different to the industry standard. Ahem, APPLE. :P

We only had to wait a year, the first page of this thread is already hilarious. I wonder did the op hold on to their shares.

Given Tesla announced 3rd Party Charger support on the maps, I'd have hoped we would at least have IONITY on there by now. This would be a good interim solution.

They're working on it, they just need to find the right icons.

ϟϟϟ for superchargers, €€€ for Ionity.

No one will be using Ionity any more from tesla so it's a moot point now.

You can find them on their map but they are not setup for pre-conditioning yet which is a shame.
Car should be able to be told it's heading to a non-Tesla fast charger and to heat up the battery...

I arrived with a cool battery (only half hour driving) and 57% SOC battery at a high power charger yesterday morning, 14degress outside, I was barely getting 4/5kW charge and took about 8minutes to get to 32kW charge and it never got above that.
Came back to same charger at 21degrees outside and 2h+straight drive, 18%SOC, car went to 120kW then tapered to 78kW after gaining 25% SOC was still taking over 30kW at 80%SOC.

Pre-conditioning the battery would have helped considerably with my morning charge

That along with route planning. I could handle lack of pre-heat if it would at least provide me some options to actually find the charger in the first place.

Not sure if it was mentioned here but I see Tesla Belfast service centre on Boucher road has the Tesla sign up, and some model 3s were delivered there today, probably demo cars. It looks like they might be open by end of September.

There is no plans for superchargers there.

The price and of the old Ford dealer site was an asking price of UK£100,000 per year rent.
