I am constantly having to pay attention to footpaths around the city centre to avoid stepping in ****, so it certainly does have plenty of **** around. You often see empty cans and smashed glass bottles in the few park and seating areas we have as well, even with bins nearby. I am living in the city centre and walking around all the time, this isn't hyperbole.

On the weekend of river fest there was literally a MASSIVE load of **** scattered along the footpath up along the footpath along the river behind the Garda station, and it was left there all weekend long.

Something also needs to be done about cruelty to animals in Limerick. Good to see a candidate raising this. Moreover, letting a dog leave its excrement on a footpath is embarassing for locals , tourists and the dog itself. Dog poop bins should be peppered around the city and suburbs. They also need to be the elaborate solar powered talking type.

Just like normal rubbish it's the people are to blame not the amount of bins or awareness of the issue.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,317 ✭✭✭✭phog

I think you can use any bin for the dog poo bag.

The amount of bags thrown on the hedges out Westfields is unreal, the dog owner uses the bag to scoop it up and then throws it into the hedge 😡

I saw a guy near the A1 Bar recently, hide a used nappy in a flower bed, I'm not sure if there are bins in the area but he walked from a car, couldn't he have taken it home like most other people.

Must be a serious mental deficiency in people who would even think of doing something like that, genuinely what goes through someone's mind? It's like they have no thoughts at all about how that rubbish is just going to stay there and rot.

In Japan there are very few bins in many areas of their cities, yet they're typically considered very clean cities, so it's all down to the individual being responsible for their rubbish. People who blame a lack of bins here are infantilising these idiots and absolving them of a complete lack of basic respect and decency towards their surroundings.

Limerick is filthy, a certain laneway made headlines in LL this week because it was full of drug paraphernalia and human waste.

Still calling people liars breezy 🙄

Some advice - do not be taken by those using Boyle Sports to hype up the Mayoral election.
Bookmakers are not an opinion poll - and it is very easy for candidates to bet on themselves to give the impression they are favourites to win.

Someone needs to poll 1,045 eligible voters to get a clear accurate picture

The funniest night in the history of Boards was watching the Trump fans scream "4 more years" on election night because the bookies had him way ahead during the count.

Why choose a figure of 1,045? Why not 1044 or 1046?

The Upfront debate was close to being a total waste of time.

Considering that each candidate had time to prepare I thought they were all under prepared.

    Butler probably performed best.

Frankie Daly committed career suicide lol!

A complete waste of time. Vague nonsense. Watching Frankie was the highlight really 😂

God help whoever gets it and God help the councillors aswell. What was on display tinight doesn't inspire any confidence. Moreover Thanks be to God that none of the ex Munster players threw their hat in the ring. Bad chair tonight aswell.

Moran shouting at Helen O'Donnell would she put a toll on the LNDR without first disclosing he has or had links to the Company that operates the Toll at the Tunnel

From what I saw to-night I will not be voting for any of them full stop.

Hello, I am not from Limerick. But I did watch the RTE debate and I have a quesion.

What is the craic with Frankie Daly? Is he some sort of Count Binface / Lord Buckethouse joke type candiate?

Or is he a real candiate?

If so, what is his story? Is he one of those candiates that just get in on the final transfer? As in "I will give x a my final preference as a joke".

Ex-Labour won't get votes outside of his own ward.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,624 ✭✭✭adaminho

Just watched it after work, how was Frankie Daly put on the main panel over John Moran? Did RTE have to use up their comedy budget?

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,317 ✭✭✭✭phog

I think (open to correction) that the first panel were made up of people that got a higher quality of votes in a previous election in Limerick or are standing for a party that got votes.

The second panel were independents or parties with lower vote counts in previous elections in Limerick

Have any of the candidates said that they'd rename the castle back to its original name "Limerick Castle".

    The renaming could increase tourism.

Butler, Leddin, Conor Sheehan all did okay, the poor reaction that Moran got from the audience on occasion was telling .

Quinlivan was poor enough for a seasoned TD. Caitríona ní Chatháin did well I thought ( not that she will win, but able to argue the point well) .

But they all mostly looked unprepared. Maybe it was the format - necessarily crowded due to the number of them there.

The only thing more cringeworthy than Frankie Dalys performance last night was the newsletter he shoved through my letterbox a few months ago. You’d be disappointed if a 10yo put it together.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,317 ✭✭✭✭phog

Leddin didn't own his previous comment about farmers have a disproportionate amount of control on the Dail, he waffled there and on the LNDR. He was the only one that seemed to have a plan for the discretionary €40m, though mentioned what he'd do with it Limerick but was vague about the "Limerick Towns". His biggest plan is a railway line to Shannon and a station in Moyross.

Leddin and Sheehan for me were the winners but that might not transfer into enough votes.

As you say, the audience were openly laughing at Moran, he has some canvas to do to win enough votes.

Quinlivan was the least prepared for a candidate of his stature, a former councillor and a sitting TD. He had no clue how to answer how or where he'd spend the €40m - it was an after thought to mention county Limerick.

Helen O'Donnell was the only candidate to mention the Boil Water Notice in Askeaton and Cappamore, The Askeaton area is without drinking water for over 12 months and none of them (bar Helen) seemed aware of it or thought it worthy of a mention.

Frankie Daly is an embarrassment to the area - but then we've seen Mick Wallace elected to the Dail and European Parliament

Clinton's Madam President book was funnier.

Firstly, it's Lord Buckethead. If we are going to talk joke candidates can we at least get the name right. Secondly I'm thoroughly disappointed that neither Count Binface or Lord Buckethead saw the great county of Limerick as a fitting place for them to stand so sorry if I come across as angry with you. Be aware I am angry with them, not you!

Lastly Frankie Daly is ex-labour and I can see why after yesterdays debate. Interrupting like he did was just plain rude and I hope will not result in many votes for him

I saw the first half of the debate last night and will watch the second tonight but I felt the top 3 getting their points across was Conor Sheehan, Dan Butler and Brian Leddin. I'd traditionally never vote for any of these 3 parties and personally don't like what they said but I felt they were the most prepared. Very surprised by Maurice Quinlivans performance especially, I thought he'd be much better. Ruairí Fahy was probably not the best candidate the socialists could have put forward, Elisa O Donnovan sounded like a posh english lady and Dee Ryan was probably the most middle-of-the-road of them all.

Looking forward to the second half tonight. A common question I hear from friends and family is, do we want a politician or a manager to be our mayor? I'm not sure I have the answer to that one

Regarding the 40 million discretionary fund; if he/she/it spends it on infrastructure , they'll still need planning permission and 40 councillors to back them. They should just spend it on festivals because whomever gets the chain will not be looked up to or admired by anyone, going by the assembly of performers on the lime tree tonight. Someone needs to have a quiet word with more than a few of them. Dee Ryan seemed like she is the best of a limited bunch.
