Now 190km with 4,800 metres of climbing, the revised route is still eye-wateringly tough but, in theory at least, the front-runners will arrive fresher (it's all relative, of course) at the foot of the Mortirolo. It would be inaccurate to say stage 16 of the Giro will be easier in the absence of the Gavia; it will simply be extremely difficult in a different kind of way.

That looks like the kind of stage I'd really like to cycle. You are basically going up or down.
Is it still the toughest stage of the race now that its been altered?

Is that a series of level crossings at 63km in?

I would think Stages 13, 14 and 20 are probably tougher than today's altered route. The Mortirolo is definitely still the hardest climb of the 2019 Giro though.

Nerves of steel and big cojones needed for this descent

I'd have no rubber left on the pads coming down this in the dry :o

Ciccone not a happy camper here, face says it all. He needs to stay cool.

Making up a minute on the descent is absolutely nuts.

    Delighted for Ciccone, well deserved.

EDIT: Masnada 3rd, had no idea he was there at all.

What a stage, the upper slopes of the Mortirolo were just epic. You wouldn't put a dog out in that.

Yep, chapeau! He looked in some state a while out so did well to keep it together.

Epic 'hard man' stage. It had everthing, Nibali's attack, Movistar's team work, Roglic's ballsy ride when he seemed down and out and a deserving stage winner.....oh and what an iconic climb! The Giro has been consistently the most exciting Grand Tour for quite a few years now. Still not sure who will be on the top of the podium next Sunday which adds to the excitement.... rooting for Nibali.

That was mad, he wasn't shown at all in the last 30km!

All of these dramas are what makes the Giro in my opinion the better Tour than France. Plus it is Italy
