NZ lose. An England win tomorrow will make it very interesting, with all to play for at Chester le Street on Wednesday. Both could go through, but that would require Pakistan to lose to Bangladesh

Sri Lanka are not out of it, but would need quite a few results going there way to get through

Bangladesh would need to beat both India and Pakistan to have a chance

Means Bangladesh still has the chance. I really like the way these Bengali guys played in this world cup. NZ should also try to win semi finals and even world cup.

Yeah, 8 matches remaining in the qualifiers and all bar 2 could have an effect on SF placings. Not a bad run in.

Eng really have to win tomorrow I think?

They do, but even if they do not get one they are likely to go into Wednesday's match with a chance as Pakistan don't play Bangladesh until Thursday, (unless Bangladesh beat India on Tuesday which will, I'm pretty sure, eliminate England if they can't beat India tomorrow)

Anyway, I'm on the first flight to Newcastle on Monday morning with tickets for Sri Lanka versus the West Indies and England versus New Zealand. Sri Lanka do potentially have something to play for

It will be fascinating tomorrow if they lose and how they will turn on Morgan as he is the captain, despite before the tournament, I seen articles proclaiming that he was one of the greatest captains, England have ever had in all sport.

England changed their attitude after the last World Cup and went with the approach that Brendan McCullum did with his New Zealand side and it's quite surprising in this tournament that many matches over the past month have been old fashioned ODI matches where scores of 250 or so have been quite regular and instead of taking loads of risks like they have done for the past 4 years, it has suited batsmen who dig in and has been more Test Cricket like than T20.

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,380 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

Morgan got England to no. 1 in the world and they have only just given that position up. I can't see them turning on him at all. Who is the alternative? Buttler? He could arguably take as much responsibility for the WC performances on his shoulders. The difference though with Morgan is he's turned into the One Day specialist - he only has to focus (at international level) on the white ball game. The likes of Buttler still have Test ambitions, and Joe Root has enough on his plate with the Test team anyway

Confidence has been lacking since Roy's injury. Hopefully he's back tomorrow, and maybe England's luck will turn. They have shown how devastating a batting line up they have, and if they turn it on again tomorrow I think their bowlers can do a good enough job to restrict India

Either way it's a potentially cracking match

Would India throw the Bangladesh game to eliminate England?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭ShauntaMetzel

England's defeat is necessary for two Asian teams Pakistan and Bangladesh. Though England was one of the favourite teams in the beginning but now, it is in trouble. Let's see what happens in today match.

    Now there’s a conspiracy theory!

Eng won toss anyway and bat first which will likely suit them.

Let's see who wins the game. England Vs. India.

Good start for England, but they have defo ridden their luck a bit, some good bowling from Shami and Bumrah.

Yes India haven’t got the luck they deserved for their consistency with the ball. Unlucky not to have England two wickets at least down yet it’s 62-0. England will be very satisfied with their start all things considered.

Good start from England alright but not sure what to make of it yet, it’s definitely a batting pitch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,762 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Seen off Bumrah and Shami and making hay now off the spinners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,102 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yep, India’s second string bowling attack are being targeted here, they look vulnerable to these two IN batsmen. English boys just need to keep their discipline and timing and it’s a huge score.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,102 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Jesus, that’s a hell of a catch, running full pelt to the ball and diving full length, forward, on the move, to take it one inch off the deck, seriously impressive.

Ravi Jadeja is one of, if not my favourite cricketer in the world but it is an absolute joke that there always seems to be an Indian player "injured" and he is in the field all the time.

Agreed, difficult if not impossible to prove any wrong doing though. The match referee could head to their dressing room I suppose but unless the replaced player is doing sort of athletic action that will be unrealistic considering his purpose of departure from the field it’s pretty impossible to police.

England with a minor wobble, they need to get the run rate up a bit and stop throwing away their wickets.

India pulling this back now with VERY disciplined bowling. They seemed to be bowling far less half volleys and leg stump deliveries and cramping the England batsmen for room. Struggling to find any sort of momentum here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

Looks like KL Rahul is actually injured but I'm sticking to my observation that Jadeja has been on the field way too much for a guy that hasn't been selected.

There are rules about when you can come into bat if you spend this long off the field, no?

With 7 wickets left and 7 overs left it would be prudent to make the best of it here and put the foot on the gas, a few more risks taken, not nearly enough boundaries and with the talents that are out in the middle two of the best players in the world, well there are no rewards for playing cautiously here.

Go ballistic in the last 5 I guess, and as Rahul has an external injury he can open the batting apparently.

Root had got stuck there, wise from him to take a risk, get a boundary or get the more attacking and expansive Butler in.

Don’t think that Rahul can open the batting.

By the rules he can, only the injury being an issue for him would prevent it.

Is that India jersey available to buy anywhere? It's a beaut

Don’t know, but it’s a one off for this game apparently as both the teams were kinda the same blue

I think it's their 'away' jersey for the WC

Oh - ok, the commentators were talking about him not able to open becoz of the time that he was off the field, that’s why I said

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 730 ✭✭✭Debub

That was stupid of Stokes... after hammering Shami.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,102 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

From one angle that’s legal, the other not. Talking millimeters though.

England as well as they have played probably feel they ended up about 20 short.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,732 ✭✭✭BarryD2

Big score to chase down in context of this particular tournament. Definitely advantage England. Make the Indian openers move along a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 730 ✭✭✭Debub

Good challenge for the much vaunted Indian batting side. Should be a good watch and hopefully will go down to the wire

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,473 ✭✭✭Adamcp898

Big score but while we’re used to seeing a few low totals this WC, I’m not sure if 337 is even par. Its a batting pitch with little in it and I’m not sure England’s bowling can be disciplined enough to keep India in check.

England have to bowl less spin than India did, which is probably a good thing for them on this pitch. Should be an enthralling contest. Butler should have gone in ahead of Morgan and Stokes imo given the circumstances.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

Sharma, Rahul and Kohli just need to tick it along. Pant, Pandya and Dhoni can easily pull back the run rate.

India do not have a tail though. I think this is their biggest weakness and why Ravi Jadeja should be playing-playing and not just "playing".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,102 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

First 10-15 overs will be key, if India can keep wickets intact and keep the scoreboard moving and scoring positively they have a chance. There is zero in the pitch really for the bowlers,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,762 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

Rahul opening is a complete joke, pretty much cheating within the rules.

Good start by Woakes, straight on line and length for the first six balls.

    Poor start by Archer.

Jesus, Root drops a dolly. Simple catch. Then 4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,473 ✭✭✭Adamcp898

Sharma dropped, Rahul gone off woakes caught and bowled. Got his hands in a strange position for that shot, was he just a bit rusty ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,102 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    Brilliant from Woakes, so accurate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,473 ✭✭✭Adamcp898

I know it’s early yet, and India don’t have a tail to speak of so wickets in hand are important, but Sharma needs to pick it up here. Kohli is keeping things moving at his end but Sharma is making sure the rate goes nowhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,102 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yep if they are going to be anywhere near the finishing line of victory here they need to pick it up big time, take a few risks they have wickets in hand.

That Root catch seeing it again, simple chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,102 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Stokes going to shît in this over, neither line or length with the exception of the last ball asking for anything else but to be smacked to the rope.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,473 ✭✭✭Adamcp898

Yep India back in shape and ticking along now, Sharma looks like his first 40(!) balls never happened all of a sudden

Looking like England NEED a wicket abouts now just to keep their advantage on track, wickets in the locker and a tiring England attack.. Wicket !,!
