Many here will know about this, but wortha thread. The council recycling centre in Coolmine costs a few quid at the best of times, but on saturdays you can recycle a whole host of stuff for free, from normal recycling items to large electrical items.

The link doesn't make it absolutely clear. Saturdays are free and many people use it but a lot of people I know haven't a clue.

This isn't correct. Whether you pay or not depends on what you're bringing, not the day of the week.

So if you have a rake of cardboard, glass and old electrical stuff, that's free every day. If you have an old couch and a soiled carpet, you have to pay every day.

Those items are free of charge regardless.

They have exemption periods, well at least one, may be more?

If you drop couches etc. in in October/Halloween you'll get asked if you're from the area and providing your say yes then it's free. That's my experience.

I've no idea why i thought it was only on saturdays. Even better so but until a few months ago i didn't even know it was possible.

I use Coolmine regularly, especially in the summer. AFAIK most household goods are free to recycle, go by the list but I mainly us it for grass and hedge cuttings. A car with bagged hedge or grass cuttings in the back seat, boot or both is typically charged €4 per load while an SUV with the back seats lowered full of grass and hedge cuttings can be €8 but very often they still charge €4. I would not go on Saturday, there can be a long queue. During the week is best, not to busy but be warned they do not accept cash, only cards, see list.
