    Hi,

MY PC is becoming very sluggish of late.

Outlook taking an age to open and hanging when trying to send messages.

I have chrome open (1 tab) but my task manager is showing multiple entries...

    Is this normal?!

Yes as Chrome works with multiple sub processes for each tab, window and extension. You can see these from Chrome > Menu > More Tools > Task Manager

Try removing any used browser extensions or simply doing a "Reset and clean up" from Settings > Advanced > Scroll to the bottom

In Chrome, click the 3 dots menu button up the top left > Click "Settings" > Scroll to the bottom and click "Advance" > Scroll again and click "Reset and Clean Up".

I'd be more interested in the HDD access stats, click the Performance tab in Task Manager and have a look. I suspect your disk is being hammered by some process.

This show disk low activity. Is computer still "slow"? Did CPU usage dropped? > CPU tab, sort by CPU column

Your CPU usage is extremely high. What CPU do you have?

For slowness, try easy things first, like install CCleaner and use that to clear out junk.
Also use it to clean up the registry.
Use DeFraggler (same company) to defrag the computer

I see you have Avira installed, this can slow things down
Consider switching to a leaner solution.

Thanks. Is the Free version of CC Cleaner fit for use? WIll this clear out saved passwords etc? I need these in place!

Any receommendation for a better antivirus? Better to pay of go free? Avira is a paid subscription.

    Thanks!

Free CCleaner is fine, will not clear passwords (those you should keep in LastPass or similar manager anyway :))

There is a whole forum dedicated to anti-virus stuff, have a look there

do not defag if you are using an SSD as it makes lots of small write to the drive which reduces its life and is pointless anyway

What's in the built-in task manager within Chome?
(...) button, click "More Tools", then Task Manager

or within Chrome window, press Alt+Space, then choose Task Manager, which is not the same as windows.

 Nothing heavy at all - no gaming, just Outlook, Chrome with a few tabs open. I have a Amcrest camera keeping an eye on the small kids in the house - constantly streaming on 2nd monitor.

This could have an effect. Try stop it and observe, also, disable plugin if installed.

So it looks like the plugin is the culprit, but I need this on as I work from home and keep an eye on the kids with it while my wife works.

When I disabled hardware in chrome the plugin would not work...

I'll disable it when not needed.

    Thanks for the help all.

I suggest upgrading to a SSD and windows 10. It will be much faster. You still upgrade to Windows 10 for free.

Is that so? I thought the cut off date was long in the past.
