    Hi Folks,

Got an electrician to run some cat5e cables through a conduit and using extenders i was going to connect to TV from source, PS3/Laptop.
I was previously doing this sucessfully with a patch cable but it was external to wall and looked messy. The current cables are also in a conduit with skyq cables.
They dont work, electrician says he tested and they were ok. bought differnt extenders and still dont work. When i revert back to original cat5e patch cable they work fine, with both extenders.

    anyone any ideas?

Could be a few things really. Did he fit wall plates or just put RJ45 connectors on each end?

Poor termination, poor quality cable could also be factors. I doubt the average electrician is carrying the thousands of euro worth of equipment that is used to properly certify Ethernet cabling.

Get someone that specialises in cabling but it's probably not going to be cheap.

    Thanks,

i refurbished house and ran cat5 cables everywhere with no problems for WiFi/home network points, in faceplates. so I trust the guys capabilities.
Cables are terminated both ends and not in face plates. Used this solution as couldn’t get hdmi through conduit... shoulda put in larger conduit but hey! Small mistake.
    Will continue the investigation!

Nan can drive her Micra so I trust her to drive a bus :pac:

Chances are your network is only gonna be 1Gb and even if it was only 700Mb you probably wouldn't notice. A minimal 1080p60 HDMI link is 1.5Gb. If your Xbox and TV are 4K then its much much more. So a half assed job will work for ethernet but passing HDMI over a cable that really shouldnt support it requires everything to be perfect. Some cheapo cable with a little alu will be enough to eff you.

I'd be looking at the cable used. Is it pure copper or CCA (copper clad aluminium)?

it’s copper cabling, looks solid anyway on the offcuts.

Must be the terminating, I know it’s not an ideal set up but if worked would be a good solution!

Back in a Sec, Nans after driving over the micra !

Might you have a link to the extenders your using and also the estimated distance the run of cat5e which isn't working
