Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Macau no-showed after winning the first leg? Hard to believe they couldn't field a team for a WC game.

Another oddity there is Malaysia having to play in first round but being seeded higher than Nepal, Indonesia and Singapore who went straight to Round 2.

This would indicate Malaysia were ranked lower at the time of the draw.

Is the draw going ahead on 17th of July? I’m sure I read it somewhere and it’s mentioned in OP as date for second round AFC draw but can’t see it anywhere now.

New world rankings came out last week and we’re down three places to 32nd which is the 20th highest team in UEFA and just about makes us 2nd seeds ahead of Serbia.

There is no general draw like previous World Cup qualifiers, each confederation will do their own.

UEFA still to decided according to Wiki it will be confirmed in September

Thanks. Presumably they still have to use the FIFA rankings for seeding? Shame it's not being done next month as there's a possibility we'll drop out of the top 20 by September.

It wouldnt, theres 9 groups so 18 teams would make up Pots 1 & 2.

By my calculations, the only way we can make 2nd Seeds is by beating both New Zealand and Switzerland in September.

A win and a draw probably wont be enough to jump 2 places.

I say probably as itd take a few mad results to go our way.

Current thinking is that there will be 10 groups for Qualification like there is with the Euro 2020 with the 10 winners going through to the World Cup and then the runners up being joined by 2 teams from the nations league for play off spots for the 3 remaining World Cup spot.

So you would have the 10 runners up and 2 top teams from nations league not qualified in like 3 sets of semi-finals final play off. with the 3 play off winners taking the last 3 spots in the World Cup

That sounds absolutely awful. The first phase is fair enough with the 6 team group to determine the automatic qualifiers.
Then it's 29 teams playing a group stage, to qualify for a knock out tournament where the winner plays off against the 4th place team from the 6 team group and the winner of that gets into a world cup play off.

It's a play off for a play off to get into a play off.
    Farcical stuff.

The huge advantage with it is that currently a lot of the teams are knocked out very early in the concacaf qualification process in order to clear the way to have the Hex over the last 12 months of qualification.

This new system means that the lesser teams will have more games and will remain in theoretical contention for a longer period. At the moment many are eliminated in a one-off tie 30 months before the actual world cup.

I'm not saying it's ideal or anything, but it does have that advantage.

North Korea vs South Korea in Asian Qualifying Group H. Be interesting to see them host each other in their respective nations.

Kinda weird having Saudi Arabia and Yemen in the same group considering the Saudi's are hosting a proxy war there with Iran for the past few years.

I am guessing the AFC are not as keen as UEFA are in keeping countries apart.

I remember when they were in the Oceania zone, they'd only bring their top players back from Europe for their intercontinental play-off. The likes of Viduka, Kewell etc would only play a couple of games every year. I'd imagine they'd need to pick their better players a little more often in the Asian zone, when you're playing the likes of Japan, South Korea etc.

Iran looking in a heap of trouble with only the group winners and the 5 best runners-up (from 8 runners-up) getting through to the next phase.
Seemed a strong if dour outfit in the Spain/Portugal group in 2018.

You have to take Qatar out for the next round of World Cup qualifying they are using this current round for the AFC Cup qualifying to hence Qatar are in that. So it will be 7 group winners and 5 runner ups if they win their group.

    CONACAF have another new format

1st Round teams ranked 6-35 in 6 groups of 5 playing each other just the once.
2nd Round 6 group winners go into two legged play-off.
3rd Round 3 play-off winners join top 5 ranked teams in a final round robin group.

    1st Round Groups
A - El Salvador, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Montserrat, US Virgin Islands
B - Canada, Suriname, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Aruba
C - Curaçao, Guatemala, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Cuba, British Virgin Islands
D - Panama, Dominican Republic, Barbados, Dominica, Anguilla
E - Haiti, Nicaragua, Belize, Saint Lucia, Turks and Caicos Islands
F - Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Guyana, Puerto Rico, Bahamas

UEFA draw is on December 7th seeding to be confirmed soon it will be 10 groups 5 with 5 teams and 5 with 6 teams

France, Belgium, Italy and Spain will be drawn into the groups with 5 teams.

Group winners go onto the World Cup.

2nd place teams will be joined by the highest ranked Nations League winners who have finished outside the top two in their group into 3 play-off groups.

Play-offs will be on off games a semi-final and final with the 3 final winners joining the 10 group winners in the World Cup

File attached been doing the rounds on WhatsApp as UEFA’s seedings.

Don’t see anything odd in it.

Draw for the European group stages coming up at 5pm. Sky Sports News and RTE News Now showing it.

This dramatic music as they reveal the countries is hilarious. Sounds like something from a BBC Four drama.

Wales with tricky opposition in Belgium. England get England which could have been worse.

We get Portugal and Serbia. NI get Italy and Switzerland. Tough draws.

Scotland get Denmark and Austria. Sounds like a group we used to get. Not too bad for them.

England get Hungary, as well as Poland. Quite a nice draw.

Tough for Ireland and Wales. Decent for Scotland and England. Stinker for Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland always get ridiculous groups.

England always get piss easy ones, guess it helps when you're in pot A

    You'd be happy with that,
Its a play off with Serbia for second - they are no world beaters if Scotland could beat them
