2 stroke engines

Hi all

I bought a new rib today, I will also be using it as a tender for the cruiser, the engine is a 2008 tohatsu 70hp tldi with only 40 hours on it. The guy I bought it from told me to use the original tohatsu 2 stroke oil but this seems hard to get locally

Could I use another quality 2 stroke oil?

TC-W3 seems to be the grade required.

No experience with outboards, but raced 2 stroke motorcycles back in the day.

If it's full synt oil that has been used so far don't put semi in at this eairly stage.

Mixing brands is not a problem but better to stick with the makers recemondations, might effect your guarantee.

Down the line, once fully run in any good quality same grade would be fine.

Did a bit more research, seems there is a difference

TLDI outboards should only be run using TCW3 oil specifically formulated for use in Direct Injection motors. Standard TCW3 oil is not recommended for use in TLDI outboards. The following oils have been tested by our factory and certified for use in TLDI motors:
Tohatsu Marine Premium Oil
Nissan Marine Premium Oil
Pennzoil Complete Marine Synthetic
Pennzoil Semi-Synthetic Outboard Oil
Mercury Optimax/DFI Oil
Bombardier RAM Ficht Oil
The above oil brands are currently the only brands that have been tested and approved by our factory for use in TLDI systems. Brand names listed are trademarked by their respective owners.
