I haven't been watching a lot of Bayern this season, but the back 4? I don't know.... I know Suele is out long term, but Boateng was deemed 'past it' a couple of years ago and is Alaba really a standard enough centre back? This looks a bit dodgy to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

That was a poor challenge from Mount. Lucky to escape a yellow there.

Mertens gives Napoli the lead with a beautiful strike.

I presume the first choice back four is:

    Pavard - Sule - Hernandez - Alaba

Or even Pavard as a CB option and Kimmich at RB.

Hernandez has been injured too, though, hasnt he? Doesn't leave them with a huge amount of options. He's on the bench tonight and, I'd assume, will come back into the side over time.

    Lovely goal

Lucky enough to be going in at 0-0. Bayern are just a level above in most departments. They will hockey us at the Allianz you’d imagine. Barkley has been poor and Thiago is running the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,736 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

Thiago has been really good, Mueller too. Good attacking down the left. But tbh either side could have scored. Good game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Thought Mueller had a good half, although he should have scored the header that hit the crossbar. Caballero has done well. Pavard looking a bit dodgy defensively. I think Willian on as sub could get some joy.

1-0 Bayern. Gnabry finishes Lewandowski's nice ball.

Busquets out of the second leg after getting a yellow

    Gnabry scores for FC Hollywood.

Bayern haven't exactly been great but are ahead. Jorginho getting booked for screaming at the ref like a toddler was so idiotic I half wonder was it intentional.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

2-0 Bayern. The Lewandowski/Gnabry combo again. Slick football.

    Gnabry again! 2-0

    Why did he leave Arsenal?

    Chelsea keeper wasn’t great there

I dunno Caballero plays like he is 83 not 38.
Anything near the corner and he has absolutely no chance.

    Why did he leave Arsenal?

He was loaned out to Westbrom where he couldn't get a game. But to be fair to Arsenal he wasn't very good then. It wasn't that obvious an oversight. I don't think he was ever really happy in the PL.

Azpilicueta was worse. Slippy-C for the first goal, and then easily burned for the second.

Chelsea 0 - 2 Bayern .... might as well be a friendly match this, the competition won't be finished this year ...

Chelsea defence can't cope with Bayern

He was only 18 or 19 when he left Arsenal wasn't he?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Should have been the hat-trick for Gnabry.

    Griezmann has equalised for Barca.

Seems so, wikipedia says he was 20 when he joined Werder in 2016.

Has to be a penalty. Close range and he knew nothing about it but it looked like it prevented a goal.

Edit: In slowmo maybe it wasn't on goal, but still...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,444 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

    Def a penalty there.

Bayern could easily score a few more here if Chelsea dont get a grip.

That could be 3 or 4 for sure now.

Davies just repeatedly destroying Chelsea's whole right side.

Not entirely accurate. Looked a big talent at Arsenal, got a big injury, came back and was loaned to Tony Pulis' West Brom where he didn't get a game. Came back to Arsenal who wanted to keep him but had to sell as he only had a year left on his contract and wasn't interested in signing a new one after the loan debacle

Premier league teams having a nightmare in knockout stages so far

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

I rarely see Bayern but this feels like the closest they've been to the Jupp Hynckes era - mad pace from deep
with ultra quick pass and move one twos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,247 ✭✭✭✭Guy:Incognito

****ing hell Abraham, thats shocking. Looked like he hadnt a clue what to do with the ball. Just pass it out to the right to the free man ffs.

Would still fancy Liverpool to get through and Spurs are far from out, just a goal behind Leipzig. Chelsea are definately fucked though.

Alonso with a sneaky slap, yellow card turned red with VAR.

Brilliant performance from Bayern, some great quality on the break. Could have had more too.

Didn't quite remember it all. I knew there was also an injury. I remembered that it just was sort of unlucky the way it turned out. Not necessarily that Arsenal thought he washy any good.

Vidal sent off for Barca. He joins Busquets in missing the second leg.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Vidal sent off for Barca who are meandering to a draw with another mediocre performance.

Lampard better hope the FA Cup goes well as their season has gone to pot. If he was a former Spurs or Arsenal player he'd have gone by now let's be honest.

So then down to Man City to keep the Premier Leagues representation from going down the dustpipe.

Great to see. Impressive from Bayern.

Turned over to Napoli Barca, Vidal and Busquets will be unavailable for the second leg but still reckon they’ll go through.

I think a heavy helping of spite & Sterling/Laporte being fit will see them past Real. They know that their season & maybe the next 2 years is on the line in that tie.
Liverpool aren't exactly dead in their tie either despite the obituaries written.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

Liverpool & City will go through imo.

    Bayern are contenders excellent side.

CL could be very tough to complete this season though. They'lll most likely be huge restrictions in the next few weeks around Europe.
