Madrid could have done with Bale for him to come off the bench.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭el Fenomeno

Higuain must be fantastic every game I don't watch him in, because any time I've watched him in his career he's been muck.

Substitute Dybala having to go off injured. Looks like it's up to Ronaldo to win it.

He'll get his 3rd no doubt

Alex Sandro was brutal going forward.

    All over. Juve are out.

Juve weren't much on the night. Totally reliant on Ronaldo heroics.

Credit to Rudi Garcia. Hell of a result.

Fancy city myself given the one leg ties for the remainder of the competition.

Great to see Ronnie and Juve knocked out.

I can't see how Lewandowski won't basically eat Fernandinho back there without salt.

Atleti, score once and kill the game.

Sarri to be sacked and Juve to try and throw a blank checkbook at Pep.

Definitely one of the big favourites alright, though I fancy the sneaky little Atleti with the draw they've gotten. Could see this format suiting Atleti... they may not be terribly flashy, but they're so hard to beat.

Atleti, score once and kill the game.

    Shout!

Atalanta, leipzig, Atleti, psg, City, lyon, assumably bayern and one of napoli and barca, nice to see a couple new faces at this stage of the competition.

Brian Kerr just said that Juventus need to rejuvenate in the most perfect unintentional wordplay of the night

Just realised the English, Spanish and Italian champions are all out this round. You've been warned Bayern!! :pac:

Project Ronaldo a failure other than profile raising for Juventus

Just thinking what a funny turn of events it's been for Depay. He did in his cruciate back in December and was facing up to the prospect of missing out on the Champions League, as well as the Euros with the Dutch. Then the pandemic comes along and stalls the season, thus allowing him the chance to compete in both. Now into the CL quarter-finals.

Liverpool are this season's champions! The CL is based on last season's qualifiers. That's my logic anyway.

threw a long shot bet on at the start of the season including City winning the Champions League returning a very healthy 4 figure sum. 2/4 of bet is in. As the seasons gone on though I dunno how much I could stomach City winning the CL

Definitely, all that money to win a couple of trophies they were already winning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,210 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Serie A is mostly a given for Juventus the last decade.

Given that they payed such a large amount of money for Ronaldo, and massively altering their wage structure in order to fit him in, the project of getting him so he would win them the Champions League has completely failed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,007 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Sarri was never going to be able to play Sarri ball with Ronnie in the team either so he was on a hiding to nothing.

They've kinda unbalanced everything with the De Ligt and Ronaldo signings as their cost has meant that they've ignored the rest of their team. Most of the bosmans haven't worked out either signing the likes of Can, Rabiot, Ramsey and bringing back Bonucci hasn't improved them. The likes of Danilo and Artur to balance books ain't a solution either.

To be fair, this is a strong performance from Ronaldo.

It's just that the rest of the squad is not up to standard, because it is too imbalanced and can't be balanced with the restrictions in place.

The penalty given against Juve was absolutely farcical.
Mind boggling that it wasn't overturned by VAR.
    Text book sliding challenge.

A dreadful refereeing error was a 2 goal gift to Lyon.

If Wolves should win the EL so qualifying for CL they will have to comply with FFP ruling. Squad of no more than 23. They've agreed a fine with UEFA for 200k rising to 600 if needs be. They have an agreed max 30m loss but have to break even for the three year 2019-2021 period. So this summer means sell to buy realistically and same next year. Luckily they have a few top players to sell and a few "gems" to find in Portugal ;)

Everyone seems to be saying Sarri has been sacked. Just waiting on an official statement.

Yeah I was more shocked at the Depay one.

    both penalties ruined the game

should've ended 1 nil to Juve and went to extra time

Andrea Pirlo has never coached a single football match in any capacity and they've made him manager of one of the biggest teams on the planet entirely because he spent 5 years playing for them

So? Happens a lot, although maybe less now than in the past.

Sure didn't Kenny Dalglish get made player-manager of Liverpool...

True, but high profile players tend to get appointed with little to no managerial experience, or only some short stints with the youth team. Not sure why Pirlo is getting singled out.

Not sure which match to watch tonight...Barca/Napoli obviously is still up for grabs, but I think that Chelsea defence could leak goals to Bayern.

Zidane did it and won the CL's with Ronnie so maybe they are hoping Pirlo can follow suit.

Ok Zidane did coach Madrid B first.

Where's all Chelsea's players? Giroud, Jorginho, Willian, Alonso, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Loftus Cheek, Pulisic, Gilmour?

Kepa on the bench, Pedro presumably injured. I presume some of the above are suspended/not eligible but I was all about thinking Chelsea will do it tonight and now I'm nowhere near as sure
