Where's all Chelsea's players? Giroud, Jorginho, Willian, Alonso, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Loftus Cheek, Pulisic, Gilmour?

Kepa on the bench, Pedro presumably injured. I presume some of the above are suspended/not eligible but I was all about thinking Chelsea will do it tonight and now I'm nowhere near as sure

Pulisic wrecked his hamstring in the FA Cup final. Gilmour is injured as well I think.

The rest could be Lampard telling the world he doesn't want them.

I missed the full bench, Giroud and Rudiger are on there but surprised neither starts with Giroud having the experience and quality for this sort of game and Rudiger being a German international who knows the stadium well.

Looks like Lampard is going for maximum energy out there with that selection, but I think Bayern will fancy their chances against the defence.

Anyone think Napoli can do it? Normally I wouldn't give them or many teams much hope going away to the Camp Nou, but in this scenario, with the empty stadium, and a coach under pressure, I think they have a fighting chance. Could maybe take it to extra-time. All depends on whether they can keep Messi quiet.

    Mertens hits the woodwork.

    Well, that didnt take long.

No point bothering with the Bayern Chelsea game now.

Barca lead through Lenglet. Not the starts to the games I would have wanted.

Surprised that wasn't disallowed. 2 fairly clear pushes by Lenglet and Pique.

    Barcelona getting a decision, shocked

Perisic makes it 2-0. He had way too much space there.

    And Messi makes it 2-0.

These ties look done and dusted.

Good effort by Messi but absolute statue defending. Take off Koulibaly as his price is shrinking tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,357 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Great goal by Messi, off balance as well with the strike.

Chelsea being put to the sword.

Are Munich the best in Europe at present?

Yes. Some great footballers in that team and they are capable of scoring from anywhere.

Messi again, the greatest. Edit- possibly scraped his hand.

    Messi goal disallowed.
    Pretty harsh

They seem to have a good balance to them.....will be cheering them on this season.

yeah I sort of hope its not given though.

Forward just put their foot in front of someone clearing the ball - pen

No idea how the first goal stood

It's given. Had to be. Clever by Messi to get there but you'd think Koulibaly would have had more awareness. He's channelling Varane tonight.

Suarez converts it well. Hammer blow for Napoli.

    Surprised Suarez took it.

But he didnt half finish it!

    Similar one for Napoli.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

    Pen to Napoli now. :pac:

Insigne scores it. Tiny glimmer of hope for the second half.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Jumping in front of a player kicking the ball is now a pen.

The first was definitely a pen, Messi flicked it goal ward and likely would have scored

The second one I’m not so sure

Did anyone see a handball for Messi's disallowed goal?

    Nope, very odd

The angle from behind the goal showed it

It grazed his arm. Very slight touch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Napoli having 2 lads out taking their corners and about 3 lads in the box making runs to get on the end of them

    Kohlabilly really ain't all that

Chelsea can sign all the attacking players they want however there back 5 are terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,370 ✭✭✭✭8-10

Milik is a player I like an awful lot. Be good for Napoli to score soon and make it interesting.

Chelsea doing even worse the second time around.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,611 ✭✭✭✭ERG89

Napoli haven't the quality to punish this Barca team but they will be dealt with a lot harder against Bayern.

Chelsea can sign all the attacking players they want however there back 5 are terrible.

Their manager doesn't help that defence either. But he'll blame Kepa for that.

UEFA or whoever controls this are turning the fake noise up to 11 for Barca, if it suddenly went off the contrast would be quite disconcerting.

Linfield scored the first goals of this/next season/s CL today in a 2 nil win against Tre Fiori.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

If Napoli had Messi they'd have won this handily.

Whens their next game? Could they be in the Champions league later in the season than all the English teams? :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Barca not looking like tournament winners on the evidence of this performance. Pity Napoli didn't bring their A game as they could have made this interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

    Kohlabilly really ain't all that

He really was poor last night, I presume that was just an off game? People talk about him as if he’s one of the best central defenders in the world!!!

I hope pretty much anybody but City or PSG win they CL, be a real shame if either club gets to reward its owners sports washing project.
