Is €55 really the best priced brick and mortar for this?

    Started a ML with united while I wait for a PC patch to be completed. In my second season and noticed some fairly big gamebreakers;

if you scout a player you can get him way below his market value and for almost nothing in wages (e.g. I bought Malinkovic Savic for 38m, wages of 42k)

By January in my first season there were way too many players transfer listed, sample: Kane, Gabriel Jesus, Bale, Xhaka, Zaha, Benzema, Arthur, Sane, Walker, Rodrygo and loads of others. Must have been about 20 or so 85+ overall players on the list. Some made some sense but a lot of them were unrealistic to me.

Liverpool sold Mane to Bayern and didn't replace him. Chelsea sold Azpi to Madrid, bought Insigne. Transfers generally a bit strange.

Still gameplay is good but ML a long way from the finished product.

Didn't know that about scouting, nice to know. Have noticed myself, even after setting transfer activity to fairly low, the CPU still make bizarre transfers. Aswell, whenever I play any of the top 6 in the PL, they usually have a reserve keeper starting? anyone else notice this?

I didn't know myself but I had tried to buy Bruno Fernandes and Savic in the summer window and couldn't agree a fee. I then sent my scout to Italy and he found Savic as a player to watch, when I went in to make a bid it started about 60m lower than it had been and had comments below Lazio and his contract saying something like "they are likely to accept" and "he has a good impression of us". The first time I tried to sign him it said "They do not want to sell a star player" and "Not sure of his role within our team".

I tried scouting AMF in Portugal and the same thing happened with Fernandes, has occurred with loads of other players since but I have tried not to abuse it.

Yes I've noticed reserve keepers as well, Cech is back in goal with Arsenal as well in my game?!? I've seen Chelsea, Liverpool and City buy random keepers I've never heard of for less than 1m and put them straight in.

Yes. Both Smyths and Argos selling for that price although Smyths seem to be out of stock in most places, and Argos are either out or very low stock in places too. If you can't get it in one of those, you're left with 65 in Gamestop or waiting for an online delivery.

    Good luck in your hunt!

Just a few comments on this.

Finding myClub hard going. Some brilliant lifelike play but some annoyances (liking hitting 'X' on xbox, he pressures opposition, gets the ball and then just stops - wtf?).

Have 219 ranking points in myClub, a new low even by my standards! Can't seem to score goals, invariably losing 1-0 to 400-700 point opposition having been under the cosh for most of the game as they just pass their way through or just coughing up a clanger in defence in the 3rd minute and then 50:50 for rest of match. I can see it coming a mile off but can't do much to stop them.

Agents are annoying too. I got Sergio Ramos. Then got him via a black ball agent. Tried to trade him but couldn't as different level/need three versions to trade (or both). So converted him to EXP trainer. He trains up Sergio 1. Immediately, I do another black ball agent. Guess who? Ramos again ffs!!! Admittedly it was RM black ball players and there only about 10 of them, but give me a break ffs. Cost me a lot of gold coins that mess. Very very annoying. Can they not just add some code to check if a player exists in the squad before a spin or at least loosen the duplicate trade rules - ridiculous.

My manager is 710 coin value and plays 4-3-3. I wish I had gone for a different manager as I find midfield and attack to spread out.

Out of interest, does anyone have an idea as to how sensitive the sprint/stamina is this year. I seem to recall you could sprint a lot of time with little fatigue a couple of versions ago, then they noticeably tightened it up last year. Is it as tight as last year in this version (my players are dead on their feet at the end of games but could be due to another demoralising defeat).

Anyway, think I will just revert to vs COM for a while. Only so many beatings I can take.

Have organised a team day out to the zoo next week. Hopefully that'll help the lads.

Does anyone start a Master League with the full squad (Liverpool with Alisson, Trent etc) or is it generally accepted that you work with the fake players and build from there? I'm considering taking a break from MyClub and giving Master League a go.

I think in recent years its more common to start with the standard squad as it does kind of ruin the immersion when the likes of Mane, Salah and Van Djik end up on random teams at the beginning of a save. The way I usually approach master league is my first save I pick a good team to get a hang of the game and not have much attachment until a decent patch comes out for PC. Once I get a good patch I'll usually pick a mid-table PL team or say Sevilla, Valencia, Roma or Torino someone like that in the European leagues. I'd use normal squads for that.

I usually lose interest after 4-5 seasons and at that point I might take a weak team in the 2nd tier of Europe and use the ML players and try work my way up through the divisions and comps.

Since the old lovable misfits of old were retired people usually just start with the standard squads. The new crop of misfits just don't capture the imagination like the old crowd did. Then again, following the likes of Minanda and Castolo etc. was always going to be a tough ask. :)

I can relate to a lot of this. Not really enjoying online 1v1 matches at the moment. I don't feel in control. 90%+ of my goals seem to come from defensive mistakes or the bounce of the ball going in my favour in the final third. And on the few occasions I can put together a decent move that worked out exactly like I wanted it to, the ball is saved, blocked or muscled away from me at the last second. Last season if I had over 60% possession in an online game, there was a good chance of me creating enough chances to win. It didn't always happen but your play was generally given fair reward. This season I just have to hope the ball bounces in my favour. Some may say that's somewhat realistic, which I won't argue with, but I will say it's not a lot of fun. I'm expecting they will balance that out a bit more at some stage. Hopefully in the October patch.

I've only ever bought this a couple times ever and ditched it quick thought it was rubbish ....this one is pretty good, tho I feel a bit duped by the demo which was excellent .........won't be getting Fifa for a fair while till they actually develop the gameplay and not just gimmicks

I can get the opponents names to appear above their heads but not the team I'm controlling.

Every year. Demo drops and I usually think it feels brilliant. People complain, game gets adjusted. I never like it as much after.

Right now, I'm not sure how I feel about it. Maybe I'll grow into it but I just can't seem to get the balance between attack and defense right.

    Demo was definitely better.

I'm very happy with it. Few issues that have been flagged and will be fixed in first patch, biggest being slight delay in player selection in certain situations

Enjoying gameplay tho. Playing with Man U, so you'd expect that to be a struggle anyway but game allows for decent tight play around box and faster attacks using space on wings etc. Enjoying variety, gave up on FIFA years ago, too limited in attack options.

Use default Utd formation and I switch from passing tight to attacking with full backs depending on how either is working out

Move defensive line up or down on D-pad as well depending on how much space I want to attack into or how good opponents are

I started a Master League last night and only have a wage budget of €60,000 or so, meaning I can realistically only get a couple of decent players in. Is the only way to increase your wage budget to sell your current players?

You can set your budget before starting ML to fairly high or high, which will increase your salary budget a tonne. Other than that, you gotta sell/release players. You can go into budget settings and make all your income go to your salary budget but I'm not sure I ever noticed much difference from it compared to selling players.

What's the verdict on playing against the comp? Thought it wasn't great last year, they kept playing this weird chipped ball out wide and there were a few situational decisions which felt off.

Master League looks like it could be fun with all the added narrative and a supposed improved transfer system (is it improved? was far too easy to sell dross and buy class in previous editions), but the most important thing is that it feels fun and real to play against the comp - what's the initial verdict?

To be honest master league is ok it is what you make of it really.

The ''improved transfer system'' from what i can see is all the transfer fees are higher. The wage budget is actually more important this year i have personally found. You also cant see the percentage chance of have of signing a player anymore.

Theres different levels of how much money you can start with as well but how much you get really depends on the club or weather you start with basic master league players.

The two obvious changes to master league are the added cut scenes which mean **** all in fairness. You get bored of them after one season. Also they have hidden all the messages such as stats going up and down injuries negotiations etc etc. So you will never see any of this unless you go into messages or the correct category.

The core master league is still the same weather thats a good or bad thing depends on what you make of it personally.

I dunno how its possible at this stage to be saying this but master league on iss pro and the early pes games was so much more enjoyable.

I dunno wtf it will take Konami to properly update master league or weather it will ever happen.

Go into your profile settings menu on the controller select screen, see below. You should know this page well anyway, as it's where you should set all your passing/shooting assist levels from "lamer" (e.g basic shooting, basic through balls and pass assist 2+) to "not lamer" (Advanced shooting, Advanced Through balls etc... ). :P

    ?

It's all I've ever played on PES.
    It seems better this year.
A huge variety of play from different teams. One game I played against Everton and they kept spreading the ball high and wide. First time I'd seen it.
The fluidity and randomness is fantastic. Some of the goals and moves and life-perfect and I'm punching the air myself.

However, there's still the odd bug of players just not moving or reactioning so slow to a free ball. Real WTF moment that detract from such an enjoyable experience.

That said, it's still worth it for now and I hope Konami will fix those bugs.

Seems they released a patch last night which, for me, has improved the game massively.

First goal after patch was a loose ball my striker ran on to and finished - this never happened previous.

    Much more enjoyable now.

    Looking forward to trying this.
Always found control of players was impossible after loose balls... sometimes they just stand staring at the ball.

in 2019 game he showed how to do the dipping shot. No way I'd pull that off in spur of the moment gameplay. Think you had to take your thumb off the direction button, press shoot then hold the direction button back. But it'd only work if the player had the dipping shot skill.

But you get points based on who you pick. You're rewarded more for winning a game with a lower ranked team so it wouldn't make sense to match teams up. Trick is to find a team with a lower rank that you can play well with.

I remember back in the PES6 online days, I used to always use Udinese online. Used to love grinding out results with them, they played a lovely 3-5-2 and had a great forward pairing in Di Natale and Iaquinta, a proper little and large duo!

Played a plethora of the usuals back then, but the best games were the ones where you came up against someone else who picked their own unique team as well. Could have some proper football matches then.

I wish they would increase the amount of kits you can import on PS4. I've got all national and club kits required in the game but not enough space. I'm going to have to delete some of the high quality ones to fit the lower quality ones now.

Already posted this on the Discord group but for those who aren't in that but might be interested …

PES 2020 is the Deal of the Week on the PS store. 40 euro for standard 49 for Legend. Cex is currently offering 36 euro cash for the physical copy so in effect it would cost 4 euro to upgrade to digital if you dislike disc swapping.

I'm finding it very hard to adjust to this years edition. In previous editions I used to dribble and sprint with R1 and the right analogue stick. This doesn't seem to work anymore, have those controls changed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,449 ✭✭✭Ivefoundgod

Unless you changed to alternate controls then R1 is still sprint. Not sure what you mean by R1 and right analogue stick but the right stick is the skill/trick stick, generally can't use sprint button with it. If you used the right stick for tricks you might have to turn off auto-feint in the settings as i think by default that is on.

Dribbling is a lot harder this year IMO, the fake shot dummy is not nearly as effective as it used to be for me and i've found that beating a guy one on one requires either a skill move or a quick change of pace. Dribbling slowly combined with quick change of direction with sprint button is often how i get away from players.

As someone else posted previously, Spoony Pizzas videos are a good starting point for learning the tricks and skills though i generally only use max one or two.

Thanks for this. Basically I used to be able to continue sprinting and use the right stick to quickly change direction or dribble around players. Now as soon as I touch the right stick the whole thing slows down and the player starts moving sideways slowly. I haven't changed the controls at all

There was a guy on here a few years ago that did LOI option files I believe (his name escapes me as he was around before I started following this forum), but I haven't heard of or come across any myself for the last couple of years.

There is a kit maker here though https://www.pesmaster.com/kit-creator/ I messed around with it about a year ago and it was easy enough to use and create a basically good kit. That said I don't know if it could be used easily to produce ones as close as possible to genuine LOI kits. Worth giving it a go though. If you're happy with the results, post it up here as there's usually a few people who would be interested in it

I beginning to dislike some of the settings in the game. How do people prefer to shot in the game. Do many use manual. I generally use the auto settings but I ve gone round the keeper a lot and then missed a wide open goal to often.

Same with the player switching. I have assisted settings on but it can be very annoying when the ball is beside your player and the computer picks someone fat away.

  • Registered Users Posts: 450 ✭✭Det Somerset

I think most people are experiencing what you're describing. Personally I find it very difficult to consistently score from shots no matter what I do unless the player has good shooting stats and is in good form, then it's easier.

As for player switching it's a pure lottery and half the time it feels I'm spending about 2 seconds trying to select the player I want by which time he's probably no longer in optimal position to take control.

I'm expecting (hoping) both and more will be fixed in the next patch.

A couple of tips that may help.

    1. Shooting - Use advanced and get yourself into free training to get used to it. Once you remember that pressing away from the goal = low and towards = high in those split second decision moments, you should be scoring a lot more with it. Also be aware that they've tweaked shooting this year and it's gone back more to the way it used to be, even on advanced/manual shooting, so you have to be really aware of your players stronger foot, their body position, any pressure being applied by an opponent and whether you're sprinting or not as you shoot. Basically shooting has by design become a bit more "random" in its outcome, so be prepared for some odd finishes when you least expect them. i've also found this year that when using Advanced shooting, pressing all the way in any direction will result in a much larger chance of the shot missing the target. Having to re-learn to not press as far in certain instances, but it's getting there!

    2. Player Change - Use Semi-Auto. Use the L1/LB as normal for most switching but for certain situations be sure to learn how to use the right stick to choose the player you want. You'll start to get to know the situations this works best in (normally the ones where you bounce around other players you don't actually want to select) but using the combination of both will definitely ease your frustration levels at certain times.
