This has to be my game of show. This trailer was bomb and I'm buying it day 1 to support a studio that is criminally underrated. Dishonoured 2 and Prey were some of the best games of current gen. This time loop concept infused with the immersive sim style they have perfected is totally Arkane and I can't wait to play it.

If I have to speculate, I think that circle thing we see is what keep the loop going and they're both trying to stop each other from reaching it.
People seem to think the two assassins are married a la Mr and Mrs Smith but I don't get that impression at all. The woman looks too young to be his wife and is clearly the villain wanting to keep the death loop cycle so she can do whatever crime she wants without the consequences of death. I think the guy is the noble type that wants to end the corruption of this city.

I believe in true Arkane studio style they're going to make us choose who to play as, and that both characters will have different skill sets like Dishonoured 2. Can't wait to platinum this!

Seems to me like they're either setting it up for 2 playthroughs as the 'good' and 'bad' character, or something akin to NieR: Automata where you need multiple playthroughs as different characters to get the full story. I am intrigued by it, but want to see more before getting too excited. I love seeing new IP's, there are not enough of them, but understandable due to the associated risk.

That trailer is just pre-rendered cutscene, no gameplay, why would anyone be talking pre-order at this stage? Not aimed at you personally OP, we see this year after year especially after E3 and it's a pet peeve, we need to stop perpetuating and feeding marketing vapour. I do like that studio also btw and will likely follow this but right now there's nothing here.

To be fair, I never said anything about pre-ordering, I don't pre-order games. I said it's a day 1 buy as in literally to be purchased on day 1 so that it's subject to reviews beforehand. That means if it reviews poorly or if the reviews mention anything about technical issues I won't get it until it's at a much cheaper price a year later.

I generally don't buy games until 1 or 2 years after release when the patch cycle has stopped and I haven't bought a game at launch since Assassin's Creed Odyssey (which imo was better at launch than it is now due to some weird patching issues). I've recently purchased Far Cry 5 and No Man's Sky only this year. The former came out over 1 year ago and the latter 3 years ago. I avoided both despite the hype and waited for patches and as a result I really enjoyed Far Cry 5 and I'm about to start No Man's Sky Next. Even Red Dead 2 I got several months after so didn't experience any bugs or game breaking issues with the single player portion.

However, this is Arkane studio. I've loved - not liked - LOVED their previous work and just got the plat for Dishonoured 2 after playing the campaign 3 times and I want to play it another 7 or 8 times. The devs behind Deathloop are the same people behind Dishonoured 2 and have described Deathloop as this:
Explore stunning environments and meticulously designed levels in an immersive gameplay experience that lets you approach every situation any way you like. Hunt down targets all over the island in an effort to put an end to the cycle once and for all, and remember: if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.

After a while you start to know what you're getting with a certain dev studio and I think by now Arkane has earned my trust. I don't see people complaining about day 1 purchases when the hype is around games like Red Dead and Cyberpunk and rightly so - the dev studios who have created such titles have earned consumer trust. I think it's time Arkane is afforded the benefit of the doubt when they release a great trailer.

Prey was for me a bait and switch kind of deal, although I enjoyed it a lot I was sold a shooter and I got a stealth survival horror.

I think that was a lot of people's problems with it, it had some very misleading marketing. It's title, for one.
I also think people thought it would be like Doom but after I saw reviews and how 90% of gameplay footage seemed to feature the main character holding a wrench I knew it wasn't going to be like that (thank goodness, as I'm not a fan of Doom).

Never got the fawning over Arkane to be honest, I found both Dishonoured games and Prey to be utterly forgettable games. This does look interesting though.

I'd be the opposite. I've rarely been more immersed in games than when I was playing Dishonored. The level design and overall lore etc was top notch in my opinion. Prey was a different kettle of fish altogether but I still enjoyed it enough to get the platinum trophy!
Deathloop looks like an interesting concept and I can't wait to see how it turns out.

You got the platinum for Prey? Impressive. You must have played it about 2 or 3 times? I still need to NG+ it before getting 100%.

Think it was three times alright, the no powers run was the toughest.

Arkane Studios is probably the most underappreciated studio out there . Deathloop looks absolutely incredible . I will be there day 1

    Gameplay looks awesome.

    But terrible graphics, its 2020.

I like the look of it, but the worrying this is the combat is the weakest part of all of Arkanes games, its hard to quantify, but there's no 'meat' to it, the feel of their combat is too much like a deus ex or system shock.

New trailer out; it's looking pretty slick, complete with very Bond'esque theme(?) tune:

Very. Though every time someone mentions that game, I shed a small tear we'll never see a remaster / re-release :(

Blame Warner Brothers who are doing a great job of challenging 2K as the biggest arseholes in the games industry.

It's quite fascinating actually, one of the first cases of a company basically being offered money for as close to free as possible...and turning it down. :(

Yeah, I've kind of accepted that Arkane are not the best when it comes to graphics but their games are so interesting and innovative. The platinum for this is gonna be a blast.

I read how players can invade other people's games as Julianna a while back. Thankfully, it is optional.
If it's tied to a trophy then it can easily be boosted with friends.

Good decision, especially with it going up against Mass Effect Legendary Edition and Resident Evil Village launching around the same time

I wonder if Arkane officially being a Microsoft studio (via Bethesda) will impact how far Sony is willing to ensure this game's success.
On the one hand, the release has been pushed out of a more competitive time which fills me with hope (the previous Arkane games sales have suffered from dumb release dates) but we know Sony are very, shall we say, 'difficult' when it comes to sharing their toys.

Yeah, lots of positive buzz around today it seems. Bulletstorm meets Dishonored meets Hitman? Okay!

The Kinda Funny Deathloop preview has got me more excited:

Such a shame they had to push it back but employee's mental health is more important than how early I can play a game or not.

I have a theory regarding the Julianna character based on a criticism of her that the guys shared. Not confirmed but I'll spoiler tag it just in case:
They say that Julianna's dialogue feels like she does not fit in the 60s era. What if she really is out of time? My theory is that she is from our era and that Colt is her father. She has gone back in time for whatever reason to settle a score with him. The developers have said that she can Colt share a connection.

Still looking forward to this pending day 1 reviews. Colt's dialogue is...eeesh. Seems a bit try-hard but we'll see.

“At least this can’t be delayed now”

I think CDPR delaying a certain game after it ostensibly ‘went gold’ shows that’s not always true 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,307 ✭✭✭The Phantom Pain

Thank goodness it's gone gold. Was getting worried it would be pushed back again.

When Cyberpunk got delayed after going gold that was the first real red flag to me that the game had a bunch of technical issues.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,307 ✭✭✭The Phantom Pain

I'm worried for the sales of this game. I predict reviews will be excellent but I don't think it's going to do very well. I'm not seeing a lot of buzz and I doubt Sony will give it the love it deserves seeing as it's now free advertisement for the X Box rather than the Playstation 5. Seen a lot of folks saying they'll wait until gamepass to play it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,264 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

Seems par for the course with a few of Arkane's games - they review well but don't necessarily get the sales they deserve. Assuming they haven't ballsed it up (which I very much doubt), it'll be a day one purchase for me albeit on PC.
