Here is the link if anybody wants to contribute to the holiday fund for the hurlers. It still seems surreal that they won the All-Ireland + National League double, what a fantastic achievement.

Senior Hurlers Holiday Fund - Clare GAA

"They have not travelled abroad for training camps or leisure since the last All Ireland winning team holiday in 2013. "

I wonder how they landed on Nashville as destination? Must be some big country music fans in the group.

If you go or are thinking of going to all the matches then it's a no brainer - buy it. Guaranteed good seats as well for all games - except in Ennis obviously!

Massive win for Naomh Eoin. Completely dominated second half. Some great scores from Owen Lynch. Barry Toner was best for Clondegad. First time in Naomh Eoin history to qualify for an intermediate final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭Stationmaster

I backed naomh eoin on the strength of his post!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

for as long as i have been following clare gaa some of the biggest supporters in the county have came from back by the lighthouse , when it comes to intercounty hurling , todays win in there 50th anniversary is huge for naomh eoin , for most of that exitance they have struggled for numbers and battled it out in the junior grade ,there only one game away from senior football tonight

a very poor game today but there workrate and defensive hard work was the difference in cooraclare today

in the senior semi final , kilmurry entered the game behind the 8 ball with dermot Coughlin out through injury , his direct replacement diarmuid king had a huge impact setting up the 2nd goal inside ten minutes and driving kilmurry on ,keelan looks to have got better with age its imperative that michael neylon gets the two back into the clare panel should he accept the role for next year

daniel walsh, king , keelan , shane hickey and darragh callinan were excellent for kib, while david collins was outstanding for cratloe , jamye moylan and kevin hartnet ot far behind

    Eire Óg 1-13
    Ennistymon 0-02

1-03 to no score at half time. Was that result expected?

  • Registered Users Posts: 178 ✭✭roashter

Yes, a lot would have expected Eire Og to win with a bit to spare. Possibly would have expected a bit more from ennistymon, but they play such diabolical defensive football they are prone to results like this. I think they lost in a similar fashion to lissycasey in Cusack cup.

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭KIB4Life

Ah Eire Og were expected to win probably by 6 or 7 points at least. Ennistymon are diabolical to watch and are anti-football. Cillian Rouine started doing keepy-ups in the middle of the field when they were 4 points down in the first half. Ennistymon were a joke shop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

as stated above what happened in the park today was nothing short of disgraceful from ennistymon , fair enough the players are doing what they are told , but if this is what beno rouine wants then ger quinlan needs to get out of there before his reputation is in total tatters

eire og brought on two inter county players off the bench and if they had there shooting boots on would have won by a further 6 or 7 points , i know we ar ethe all ireland hurling champions but i would like to think we have better footballers than that here are the highlights with the keepy uppies included crazy stuff

The intermediate championship might lack quality at times but it is never short in entertainment and like yesterday the game between wolfe tones and kilrush went to the wire a really good game with both teams going for it from the word go great game , its naomh eoin v wolfe tones in the intermediate final , and michael cusacks v clarecastle in the junior A final in two weeks time

crazy , i am glad i didnt go over , i stayed local and went to the intermediate semi final in kilmihil , it would have been a struggle to make the game in ennis in time , it would also have been a struggle to watch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

yes , eire og have 13 or 14 inter county players of the last ten years , a number of them have retired , they also have a number of lads that played under age hurling or senior hurling for clare and have only used 22 or 23 players ,

they are mad for a hurling county championship but between themselves and kilmurry ibrickane they are the best two football teams in the county , many are touting eire og for a craic at munster this year

ennistymon are as negative as it get which is a pity because they have some excellent footballers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 806 ✭✭✭French Toast

0-02 in a Senior county semi-final is shocking bad, how do you sit down afterwards and analyse that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 806 ✭✭✭French Toast

Just read a Tweet that suggests those two points were from frees! Anyone confirm or deny?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

yep and both were 13 meter frees , it was as bad as it looks , take a look at the highlights i put up above , and watch cillian rouine play keepy uppies in the middle of the field before going ten yards backwards with his pass , its an absolute disgrace there is war over it here ,

    the

the ennistymon head honcho is brendan beno rouine , one of the 1992 survivors , he preaches this san marino style game plan of 15 men behind the ball , he has a really good coach in ex clare midfielder ger quinlan but quinlans stock is falling fast and needs to get out of there before his reputation is ruined

ennistymon have some really good players , david fitzgerld and sean rynne from the clare hurling panel , brendan rouine ,josh guyler, cillian rouie and diarmuid fahey are all on the clare senior panel at the moment but they are only doing what they are told

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭KIB4Life

Yeah in fairness Ourselves and Cratloe was a decent enough game and at least both teams tried to go at it. Bit of bad blood between the two teams so it can a bit fiery at times but that can add to the game as a spectacle.

You’d hope the final can be a decent enough game but a lot of finals can be cagey. From a KIB perspective we have gained 6 players from the team that lost to Cratloe last year young Evan Cahill and Conor Kearney have came through. Keelan has come back from the USA. Darren Hickey has come back from his acl injury, Martin McMahon is back starting and Daryn Callinan has returned.

This has made our bench stronger with Ciaran Morrissey who spent most of the year in Mexico and then got injured and Aidan McCarthy who obviously played a huge part in Clare winning the All Ireland suffered an injury coming back after the All Ireland. These two couldn’t get back into the team but played a key role in steading the ship yesterday.

Special mention to Shane Hickey too, 38 years of age next weekend. 20 years after him winning Minor, U21, and Senior as well as Munster Club all in the one year in 2004 he played a key role in the 2nd half scoring 1-01, while he was also fouled for two converted frees. This is after him coming back from heart surgery in 2020 and then he tore his Achilles tendon in 2021 and it’s great to see him flying and playing football the way it should be.

Also as well the evergreen Michael O’Dwyer and Shane Daniels still representing their clubs into their 40’s. Also fair play to Cratloe they are a tough team and have great fight and heart. At least they try to play fairly good football.

i taught darren was older then shane , both had excellent games yesterday , the bad blood is understandable i am always curious to know if collins ever apologised afterwards for forcing kilmurry to play that game that time

eire og and kilmurry are the best two teams in the county at the moment but the absence of coughlin is huge , diarmuid king is some replacement too off the bench but he wont be allowed half them runs in the final , russell or ikem will cut him in half ,

another worry would probably darren Callanan's accuracy seemed off yesterday too with the frees , that's the first thing that needs to change for the final, whatever happened keelan in new york he has came back a much better player , for the first time in his career he is consistent which has plagued him in the past , he is a top top footballer when he is in form and that is what gives kilmurry a real chance in the final

Ye were 5/1 to win championship before semi final. I thought were great odds, ye won't fear the townies in the final.

your asking the wrong man i am no good for that sort of stuff ,i just taught he was older then shane

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

its likely dermot coughlin wont be back in time which is a huge loss, they have a great panel to back it up but he is hard to replace

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,394 ✭✭✭Gael85

Ennistymon are underachieving with having a high pick of players. They have had lots of success at underage but hasn't translated to senior. Could do with change of approach with management and tactics. They played similar under Mark Shanahan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,394 ✭✭✭Gael85

Looking at match programme for the weekend games. What is story with teams naming large number of subs? Clondegad had 42 names on team sheet. Ennistymon usally have 40 plus names on their team sheet too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭KIB4Life

Darren is younger Shane, Darren is about 3 years younger he is about 35. Shane would love to hear that you think he is younger. Diarmuid King will start he has started all the games when fit over the last few years and has been brilliant in this year’s championship. He also has came back from a acl injury. Should be a lad that could make the county panel. I think you are mixing him up with O’Dea. Look Coughlan is a loss but at times I feel he can be over selfish and can carry to ball into trouble too much.

Ah Keelan had been oustanding for Club for a number of years it was just the county that he wasn’t always consistent. Actually felt he was a bit quieter yesterday than the Miltown game, but it’s a good sign that we won without him performing brilliant. He kicked some great frees but didn’t score from play. Personally feel that if Keelan or Martin McMahon were to get injured they would be bigger losses than Coughlan.

Yeah I think that was 2012 game you were referring to that was played after the double tragic drowning in Seafield, that was called off.

How many county titles has Michael O'Dwyer won?

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭KIB4Life

Yeah when we met in the 2021 final we had Coughlan, Diarmuid King and Shane Hickey out with long term injuries. We also had played that final with Aidan McCarthy, Martin McMahon and Mark Killeen no where fully fit and we were right in the game until Joe Campbell got sent off late in that game and Eire Og got a few late scores to win by 5 I think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭KIB4Life

    9. Think he was in the panel in 99 when they lost to Doonbeg in the final. So fair achievement for him to still be lining out. He is only getting about 5/10 minutes now but at his age is impressive.

A lot of the panel weren’t even born when he was playing in county finals.

one or two of the galvins worked with us before going to Australia that time , it was a freak accident apparently , i remember it was a beautiful calm day which made it a huge shock altogether apparently they were fishing up off liscannor when they were hit with a freak wave , i have good friends up in your neck of the woods and they are still not happy with collins over it

i know shane i know he would be delighted 😂 , in my opinion he invented the defender pull down tackle , where he grabs the defenders arm and falls to the ground , hes some man in fairness 😂

keelan is quality there is no doubt about it , hopefully he commits to the clare panel next year , on his own he is good enough to get clare back to division 2

king is excellent when in form , i had him as a nailed down starter for clare before his injury last year

i am actually hoping it becomes a big topic of discussion in the clare champion later this week , but with a novel and intergang county final next sunday and a pretty good intermediate final saturday it will be forgotten about pretty quickly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

both have strong intermediate or junior teams , ennistymon are finished for the year with there second team at intermediate , and clondegad got to the 1/4 final of the juior A final and are in the junior b final this year , so unlike the likes of kilmihil or doonbeg at senior level both clubs have a strong underbelly coming through , but inagh/k is propping up ennistymon and ballyea is propping up clondegad

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭KIB4Life

I suppose Naomh Eoin showed on Saturday that Quality beats Quantity. Know point having 42 players in a panel if most of them lack quality which is the case with Clondegad, they have no scoring threat and no real dangerous forward.

While for Naomh Eoin Bonfil and Lynch are two decent forwards much better than anything Clondegad have to offer.

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭KIB4Life

I wonder has he anything to say about Ennistymon’s performance and the performance of his beloved Brendy and Cillian Rouine. According to him they seem to be the best thing since sliced pan.

Yeah I think between Collins and Pat Fitzgerald they wanted the game to be played I think it was a mid week game if I remember correctly as the Clare Under 21 hurlers were playing the semi final the following weekend so they wanted the Cratloe lads to have an extra rest but the game ended up going to a replay, which meant that the Cratloe lads had only a weeks rest anyway. But it didn’t matter as Clare went on to win the U21 All Ireland.

Actually the original fixture a week before that had been cancelled as a lad from the parish who was playing with the Kilmurry Junior team had taken his own life and would have gone to school with some of the players. That year was actually a very tragic year for the parish in KIB a lot of suicides as well as the drownings between Coore, Mullagh and Quilty.

Look I think in terms of Cratloe they probably hate the sight of us as apart from last year they haven’t beaten us in a knockout championship game, they beat us in two early championship games in 2013 and 2015. But for us they could arguably have 4 or 5 more football championships in the last 14 years.

Think we have played each other 16 times in championship since 2010, which is a crazy amount. Probably have to go a long way across the country to have found two teams to have played each other as much especially, as most of them have been knockout games.

Ah Shane’s a sound lad and pure gent. In terms of achievements I’d say he takes greater pride in being name the 25th best looking gaa player in a poll from 2015 rather anything he achieved on the field. 😂😂

Ennistymon have made a laughing stock of themselves nationally, some achievement. Eire og are blitzing everyone, the final could be their toughest test but I expect them to have 5 or 6 points to spare in the end. If they are lacking anything its an out and out marquis forward. Cooney and McInerney are good but they wouldn't be First name forwards for the county, they could rattle munster but that is what could catch them against high level opponents.

  • Registered Users Posts: 600 ✭✭✭Treble double

I would rate Ciaran Russell as the best footballer in the county, he is the heartbeat of that Eire Og team it will be interesting to see what Quilty attempt to do to neutralise him

Anybody hear anything about possible senior football manager?

Neylon seems an obvious choice, but rumors also of Declan O’Keeffe or John Evans. The previous Kerryman didn’t stick around too long.

The hurling final tomorrow has been postponed due to Storm Ashley.

turns out it was the right call , a brutal day here in west clare , loads of trees down in different parts of the county good call

the game i now on next monday , i am sure if feakle win they will have no problem taking the tuesday off work , people seem to think that the conditions would suit them today ,i dont think they would , if you take a look back at the kilmley game there only loss of the season , it was wet and windy and they were wayward with there shooting which cost them the game

they have an excellent running game with big men that know how to draw fouls or generate goal scoring opportunities they are a better team then they are credited , i talked them up at the start of the year , slightly disappointed i didnt back them each way at 20/1

i do still give them every chance though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

i have one good source in miltown that tells me neylon is happy where he is but has put a team together for the senior job , peter keane and john evens have been interviewed , which highlights just what a job initially colm collins has done but bothe neylon and dermot coughlin with the development over the last 7 or 8 years , personally i think it would be foolish to overlook peter keane

with eoin cleary and keelan sexton back next year the team would look very strong again , evens is another good choice done some job with tipp and Roscommon but he had really good players to work with ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

i have no highlights of the intermediate final from yesterday yet , a good game surrounded by a couple of controversial late decisions that decided the game

tubber are right to be aggrieved , they probably were slightly the better team over the 60 minutes but wolfe tones cant do anything about that now , they know themselves they didnt fire yesterday and fell over the line , but with the players they have they deserve to be senior they just need to put it together

the tubber half back line is one of the best i have seen in the county all year with patrick o' connor rolling back the years and donal mcmahon looking like he's intercounty standard even though he didnt when he was there

i would give tubber a great chance next year if they keep it together , and one more year in the young dunfords at this level too will help but it probably means nothing tonight

fair play to wolfe tones a great club with huge support no matter if its back in west clare in football of over in scariff in the hurling a great club, the image of the year for me is lohan being carried through the goalpost with the liam mccarthy aloft the monday evening after the all ireland final wont ever leave me

Is it true Neylon wasn't approached to take over from Colm Collins? Heard that from someone. He also been coaching The Banner for last couple years.
