Think John O'Keefe and maybe John Kennedy were only kerrymen who had success with Clare football. Paidi and O'Dwyer were only there for the money. Ideally Neylon or Coughlan with an outside coach would take the job.

paudi was in trouble personally at the time , and not financially , his wife said it in an interview after he died , his heart just wasn't in it as much as he tried , he was heavy on the drink at the time, i remember at the time in september 07 coming back from a weekend at the listowel races we were in formed by the landlady of a pub in tarbert that paudi would call every evening for an hour before crossing for training ,

he was a quality manager for kerry, but his comments about the supporters killed him and he never recovered from it again

100% micko was in it for the money and the earners turning up at every west clare pub and signing autographs while the team was out running up and down sand dunes , the equivalent of the mr burns character from the simpsons mad for money and getting married at 89 years of age he must be planning on staying around for another 20 years 😂

i cant help that both keane and evens are using clare as a stepping stone , but i would happily give it to keane if he stays for 2/3 years while we still have cleary and sexton at the age they are at , then give it to michael neylon or eire og manager paul milky madden both deserve a shot but i dont think either want it at the moment , maddens family is young and neylon was is happy at u20 level

The coach is the important thing to get right, whoever is coming with the best coaching team should get it. Manager these days only the pr man giving a few soundbites to the media, the important man for the players is the coach. I wouldn't give it to anyone from Kerry, Clare football is only a laugh to anyone in that county and a way of making a handy few pound

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

so why would you give it to some one that donsnt want it , i imagine everything peter keane has done in his life there is no need for taking the clare job to improve his chances anywhere else unless he plans on opening a new supervalu in the county and we have enough of them , he surely is the leading candidate

Is he even in for it, is there any truth in that, Downes from Kilmihil is supposed to have a strong backroom team put together and is anointed by Colm Collins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

i wouldnt give gaza the kilmihil job let alone the clare job , he has made a name for himself as a good selector but that is as far as the bridge will cross

his father was a gentleman but a very powerful figure in gaa circles right up to croke park. it was him who got declan involved in the clare set up years ago , but he is not management , at least not until he at least tries it first

surely you would be giving it to the best candidate rather then an unknown , cant gazza be part of peter keanes backroom team i am sure he will be heavily endorsed by mark fitzgerald

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

yes peter keane is in for it he has been interviewed , as have everyone else

Have Tubber lost 3 intermediate finals now in the last 5/6 yrs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

this was their first final since 2020 , but lost the 2020, 2018, and 2017 finals so four out of the last 8 , must be something in the water up around the burren , michael cusacks were the same at intermediate football for years too , i think they lost 5 finals in a row up to 2008 , tubber are picking players from michael cusacks and ballyvaughan for years now

wolfe tones 2-11 2-07 Naomh eoin

A remarkable year complete with a remarkable double for wolfe tones , only 12 weeks ago they were parading brian lohan with the liam mccarthy cup through the goal post club house , in the space of the last 7 days they have done a unique double in claiming both intermediate football and hurling titles

an early 5 point lead with an excellent individual goal by aaron brennan, it was quickly cancelled out by own lynch who goaled at the other end and scored 2-3 in total of the men from the west's 2-7 , on the 20th minute it looked ominous for the underdogs when jack ryan goaled the shannon mens second goal of the game to make it 2-6 to 1-2 , lynch 2 minutes later scrambled home an effort on the counter to bring it back to 4 again but wolfe tones looked in control

leading by 2-9 to 2-4 at the break wolfe tones only managed two points in the second half from gary leahy and a craig riordan free, but they were not helped by the deteriorating conditions , naomh eoin dominated the last 20 minutes of the game but rushed several shots on goal missed frees on a normal day would have scored and let themselves down with some poor decision making , as a result with a strong wind at there backs they could only muster up 0-3 second half points

jamye o'sullivan was awarded man of the match , himself and aaron brennan were excellent in the wolfe tones defense , as was aaron kelly , dean deveny , craig riordan , and joe mccauly all excellent for the winners , who make a welcomed returned to senior football for the first time in 6 years

Eire Og 1-10 0-6 Kilmurry Ibk

Eire og prove to be the strongest team in the county by a comfortable distance with a comfortable win over kilmurry ibrickane in horrendous conditions , the west clare side started the brighter with the first 3 points of the game 2 frees from keelan sexton and darren callinan , callinan added another from play , and had a Diarmuid king effort found the back of the net and not the side netting the townies could have been in huge trouble ,

shortly after a cool finish by gavin cooney followed by a dodgy cole palmer celebration got the sides level just after 10m minutes , the game turned from that point onwards , kilmurry only managed one more score for the rest of the half and eire og started to dominate , a darren o neill free and two points in quick succession capitalising on two poor short kick outs , first cooney and then man of the match and championship top scorer colm walsh o'loughlin, walsh o'loughlin kicked his second before half time to leave it 1-4 to 0-4

4 first half wides by mark mcinerney could have the townies out of sight , kilmurry could only manage 2 more second half points from sexton and callinan as conditions deteriorated even more , eire og shut them out for the last 20 minutes with ronan lanigan , manus doherty, and ciaran russell top class for the winners , colm walsh oloughlin started the second half where he left off with another from play before a superb cooney sideline from 21 yards had the game at 1-6 to 0-6 points with 15 to go

Walsh o'loughlin kicked his 4th with 10 minutes to go darren o brian followed up with a close range finish two minutes later and two late points from a mark mcinerney free and substitute philip talty finished off an impressive win for the townies

    eire og scorers

    Gavin Cooney 1-2 1sd

    Colm Walsh O'Loughlin 0-4

    Darren O'Neill 0-1f

    Mark Mcinerney 0-1f

    Darren O'Brien 0-1

    Philip talty 0-1

    Kilmurry ibk

    Keelan sexton 0-3 2f

    Darren Calinan 0-3 2f

the clubs have just got notice tonight too form the county board that peter keane is the choice of the review committee and will be ratified as clare football manager on tuesday night

Great day for our Ladies in Kilmurry they put in an outstanding performance in beating Doora Barefield to win our first ever Ladies title, 5 years ago we could even field an adult team and the strides they have made in the last 4 years in brilliant. Niall Hickey and Patrick O’Connor have came in and done a brilliant job, they were better coached then a lot of male teams.

In as far as the Men’s game fair play to Eire Og, but Kilmurry had the game lost on the sideline with the team selection Dermot Coughlan shouldn’t have started and Conor Kearney was blackguarded getting dropped, when you have clueless management you are likely to struggle to win anything. Fair play to Eire Og gone now and win Munster because they have a good enough panel to do it.

i have highlights on the way for the ladies , a great game today , johanna doohan ,ciara hickey ciara mccarthy and especially young kayla darcy and the goal she scored was brilliant an excellent game in them conditions, i feel old watching kayla darcys goal as i went to school with her father and that doesn't seem tha t long ago 🙈

i agree with the selection argument ,however , egan made a run down on top of the eire og sideline halfway through the second half to try and get some sort of movement out of keelan and darren callinan who were totally static in there play all day both got one point each from play and a few frees , you need more from your best players and they offered nothing today , callinan was sacrificed but in truth kelean could have joined him , kilmurray started like a train and finished like a post man , had kings goal gone in it could have been different but kilmurray scored 3 points in the first 9 minutes and 3 points for the rest of the game , the movement was key , dont forget maca was substituted with 15 minutes to go too , a man regarded as the leader of the team , i dont think management can be blamed too much

the idea of the ladies and mens final took some persuasion from the ladies board bizarrely enoh but it was an excellent idea and a great night tonight in kimurry was had, great game in serious tough conditions , the standard of ladies football is excellent in the county , we need to up the pace to match the cork and kerrys of the game but we are not that far off at the moment

Peter Keane has strong Ballynacally, Caherea connections. His aunt Kitty Keane lived right beside Clondegad pitch in Ballynacally her house was beside the entrance into the pitch on the main road coming into the village. His uncle Marty Keane came from Caherea and played with both Clondegad and Lissycasey so doubt he is jumping ship. Peter Keane knows all the Clare lads well who played minor from 2014 to 2018

  • Registered Users Posts: 212 ✭✭KIB4Life

Yeah Kayla D’Arcy was brilliant for her age only 16. Ellie Hanrahan was outstanding as well won player of the match with 2-02 and played a big part in the 3rd goal. Yeah there wasn’t much movement alright but we don’t really have the kick passers anyway Darragh Sexton was the only one that actually tried to kick the ball inside.

Conor Kearney marked Colm Walsh O’Loughlen in the group game and done a really good job on him, he had a brilliant year, hardly put a foot wrong and was dropped for the final. That sort of thing is disgraceful, supposedly Conor was crying when he heard the news. Also they are playing too many players out of position. Andrew Shannon is more of a wing back/wing forward instead of corner back, Darren Hickey should be full back, Mark Killeen corner and Ciaran Morrissey wing, Josh Moloney is a wing back as well not a wing forward.

Also our county players didn’t stand up and tbh haven’t in the big games over the last few years. Anyway we enjoyed the night and the ladies winning.

Eire Og need to have a serious crack off Munster now to test their mettle. They have no credible challengers within the county, they took their eye off the ball last year and that scuppered their chances of matching or surpassing the Kilrush 5 in a row outfit.

Eire Og might reach the Munster final.

But once they come up against C'haven or Crokes, I think there's just a gap in quality.

What a win for Feakle. Did anyone see that performance coming?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,178 ✭✭✭windy shepard henderson

i gave them a really good shout at the start of the year , but they fell over the line in the semi final against cratloe and probably should have lost that day , i didnt expect them to win today and especially not as comfortable as they did either ,

they have excellent backs and are a big physical team especially in the right areas in the half back and half forward lines they usually have a strong running game off the shoulder and will draw frees all day , its nothing pretty to watch but very effective , they have a radar like free taker in shane mcgrath , he has been in and out of the senior panel over the last 5 years but he is fairly small in size and that is probably what has kept him from progressing

they have adam hogan and conn Smyth in the full back line , both along with the goalkeeper eibhier quilligan are on the clare senior team , and ronan o'connor from the u20s , they are also ger loughnanes club and you can be guaranteed this win will be celebrated this week over there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,362 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

Oh I know exactly who Feakle are/were. Paid the 15 euro to watch yesterday and was amazed at the performance. But for the SMB keeper the margin of victory would have been double digits. Maybe the heavy pitch suited them better. Madness that a made up game was played there on Saturday when the Senior Final was still to be played.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,750 ✭✭✭MyPeopleDrankTheSoup

to clarify, was it €15 to watch online? or €15 to pay into the park?

€15 is crazy money for an online stream

  • Registered Users Posts: 8 Pandering_Peter

That intermediate game in cooraclare was tough… honestly surprised that stream stayed up, the chip van was getting a battering from the wind and rain, and someone said clare fm had to go off the air for the start of the second half.

Didn't make the games in the park but looked good and the telly… the hurling obviously got the better days weather

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭Stationmaster

The shinty was on there Saturday and there were 2 football matches Sunday before it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,362 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

Yeah, 15 euro for the stream. Quality was ok, it didn't buffer and commentary was decent. There's better value if you bought more games but this is the only wanted to see. I'd imagine the match was EUR 25 admission?

Well done to the 6 Clare lads who won hurling All-stars

[O'Donnell, Rogers, Kelly, McInerney, Hogan and David Fitz]

Conor Lean was very hard done by I thought, they put Morrissey ahead of him even though he didn't even play corner back.

On the other hand, one could argue that Kelly and Fitzgerald were lucky to get theirs, so…

Clare u20 football manager Michael Neylon has stepped down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,375 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Will he be involved with the county in any capacity? Or part of Peter Keane's backroom team ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,939 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

    No

He stepped down because he didn’t get a look in for the Senior Job. He wouldn’t wanna be part of backroom for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,375 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Rory Gantley from Galway added to the backroom team by Lohan.

Conor Cleary and Peter Duggan had operations, will miss most or all of the league.

  • Registered Users Posts: 600 ✭✭✭Treble double

Cusacks ran the Cork champions to 3 points down in Cork, that is a performance that deserves mention when you compare the amount of clubs down there to here, bodes well for them in intermediate championship next year
