Some freakishly fanatical fantasisers on boards. My scores and positions are too embarrassing to put up.

Looking at it I realise that I don’t filter enough, I should be screen shoting these scores to see who to listen to again
You kinda come on here and treat everyone as equal, when they’re clearly not

Some of the FPL accounts on Twitter are atrocious for this. Lads with thousands of followers dishing out advice sitting at 2m

I threw it out there a few years back that every one of our posts should have our current OR, to give people an idea of who they were listening to. Got shot down fairly emphatically

Safe to assume you have a twitter account for fpl?

Have a Twitter and just tweet my team to keep a record really. Doesn't have 'fpl' in the handle or anything. Would like to do a podcast but never got round to it.

Wrote a couple of articles a few years back. One titled 'How Not to Hate FPL' is certainly my best contribution to FPL :).

I am happy to be your first guest and discuss how sadly FPL affects my weekends now more than real life soccer
Of course as a united supporter it is also my only source of hope that I may get some enjoyment some weekend :D

I still completely disagree with that
At this stage it is obvious who is around a good bit handing out sound advice and who is only in after a good score etc

“Good “ players can have bad seasons . It doesn’t mean they don’t have good advice to give out . In fact it can often be a case that they just don’t follow their own advice ! I enjoy getting other people’s opinions no matter their OR

Honestly if this place goes I don’t think I’d get anywhere near the enjoyment out of FPL. I might even end up stopping playing
It is obviously a source of advice and opinions but the best part is Matchday thread . I try to watch one match and look to the the thread for the rest

    Long live Boards FPL
A great bunch of lads........and one girl I think !

Henderson and Wijnaldum are pretty nailed. Fabinho also, for whenever he returns from injury. In the meantime I'd say Minamino could share some game time with Keita and even Lallana. Class looking player from the CL games I saw him in though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,012 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Cheaper than I thought. Then again, how much game time will he get straight away. If he is starting, he could be very cheap, especially if paying in the front 3. The suggestion so far is that he will play in midfield in the FA Cup game.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,746 ✭✭✭BullBlackNova

That's a decent price but he would still represent a huge gamble IMO.

A fully fit Liverpool squad will usually have at least two of Henderson, Wijnaldum and Fabinho in the midfield, and then you've to factor in Shaqiri, Oxlade Chamberlain, Keita, Lallana and Milner for the other spot.

Minamimo might get opportunities up top too but lots of competition there too. Just have to see how often Origi is involved for that.

With the current injuries, I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of Minamimo in the next few weeks but his time might dwindle after people start to return.

Pretty much spot on. It's a clever price from FPL can see it tempting loads!

One to get in on a draft game maybe

I do like the idea of having to post your OR after each advice post as it then gives the idea that this year they've had it spot on.

Sorry to use this as an example but Slick couldn't get a thing wrong last year. Everything went his way & this year I think it's the complete opposite for him?

But the context is as KM said that a few folk have been around a long time so they already know who to take advice from most likely. I'm only posting here the last 3 years or so, I'm definitely a noob to some :)

I always knew busts had a good record but that's seriously much better than I thought.

    MarkX also incredible record.

6/9 top 100k finishes is altogether decent, still a bit annoying that my 1st season is still my best :pac: :pac: 2015/16 the only real blip, but I certainly wasn’t the only one who suffered during that season :pac: current rank 434k haven’t really been able to get a break this season, though after gw18 I was 931k so at least I’m moving in the right direction. I usually finish the season stronger

Have no recollection of that first season! Life got in the way in 2011 and 2014, have been taking it pretty seriously since then. Top 1k finish has alluded me so far, that's the target every year now. Doubt I'll see it this season so aiming for top 10k again.

In 12 seasons inside top 50k 9 times but only in top 10k twice. Was 112 outside 10k one year and 3/4 more finishes around 15-20k on top of that. Consistently quite decent but only 2012/13 stands out as a great season.

Would happily take top 50k this year I reckon - just broke 450k last week.

Fell out of love with all things football. I took up cycling betting and then took racing back up in 2014 after years away from it and fantasy football suffered big time since then. Think this year is my first year really engaging again after Christmas

I don’t agree with this. I’ve a good record this year (approx 30k) and have been averaging around this for close to a decade now.

However, if I looked at every post with reference to current OR I might be in danger of losing sight of the fact that there would be plenty in that 30k above me this year, that I’m consistently better than, and even more in those millions behind me who are consistently better than me.

Slightly off topic but the betting you took up was serious betting or casual betting? I assume serious as it takes it up so much time. I know from experience.

That first season I only joined in February. My first full season is still my best so am aiming to get top 5k at some stage in the future.

Would obviously love a top 1k finish but that task gets tougher and tougher the more people play the game. Nearly 7.5 million players this season which is mind boggling.

Going by the current season would be pretty rubbish alright. FFS HOF would probably be as good an indicator as any. That or maybe 5 year average or number of top 10k/50k finishes but the ffs hof basically takes that into account already.

I think the difference on here is, everyone gives genuine good advice and tries to justify the reason why- its up to you how you use it, even all the top players want and need advice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,014 ✭✭✭Pete_Cavan

Yeah, people offer different options and points of view, it's up to each individual to decide what they do with those. You can get good advice from a bad player or bad advice from a good player. Posts from contributors here are just another source of information which people can take into account, or not, when making their own decision.

On FPL affecting your weekends/life etc, a friend of mine who has been living in Australia for the past 8 years had to give up fantasy football. He said the first 5 minutes of waking up on Sunday morning over there and checking his fantasy football score, determined what kind of mood he was going to be in for the day. If it went well, great, but if it didn't, his Sunday was ruined. I think we can all relate to that in someway.

After years of trying I have just about learned to put it in perspective but am still reluctant to captain someone in a Friday or early kick off on Saturday game, in case they blank and I am fuming for the rest of the weekend!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,421 ✭✭✭Shedite27

I went through a period a few years back when I had to know about scores as they happened, would always have score alerts on my phone, checking the scorer/assist all weekend. Have completly ditched that now unless I'm sitting at home for an afternoon on my own anyway. Like you said, think most people have some perspective on where it sits in life. Don't want to be out with friends/family thinking about how Callum Wilson is getting on against Watford.
