I went from not knowing the rules straight to obsessive, found FSA a few weeks into my first season and took a crash course.

Discovered it's not always a healthy thing in my life, serious tendency to overthink and major cause of screen addiction. Took a step back last year and let a friend play out season from Jan.

Didn't plan to play at all this season, but as I'm admin for Harps league decided to pick a team and play it till I got sick of it. 100% casual now, but still going. Missed deadline and lost a transfer twice! Dip in and out of here now, but rarely post. Have gone from 2.5m OR to 500k over last 9 or 10 GWs. Gained 500k over Xmas alone.

Have completly ditched that now unless I'm sitting at home for an afternoon on my own anyway. Like you said, think most people have some perspective on where it sits in life. Don't want to be out with friends/family thinking about how Callum Wilson is getting on against Watford.

I’m hoping I’m not alone in being like this still haha

It's interesting comparing points to rank 9/10 was my highest scoring season by 60 points.

Has anyone got any really tight point groupings? I've had 4 finishes in the 2215-2227 range and 3 finishes in the 2260-2268 point range.
Not quite tight points groupings but my 2011 - 2015 ranking was weirdly consistent.

Was starting to lose interest nearly in the Premier League but got roped in to an FPL league at work a few years ago and then found this forum shortly afterwards.

My obsessiveness has varied over the years...one thing I'd like to move away from this year is a slight tendency to check live scores constantly at the weekends. Although, I do enjoy a good matchday thread on here :-)

The FSA forum is deffo one of the more appealing aspects of playing the game tbh...nice vibe on here and no matter how bad your gameweek is going there's ALWAYS someone worse off taking the p1ss out of themselves.

Also, I cannot for the life of me understand how or why people are prepared to pay money for FPL spreadsheets, advice, analytics packs etc.

Anyway, here's my somewhat mediocre history:

    2015-16: 49,343
    2016-17: 41,794
    2017-18: 89,932
    2018-19: 24,812

Currently at 336K, so will be counting on the DGWs yet again to save my season

Slightly off topic but the betting you took up was serious betting or casual betting? I assume serious as it takes it up so much time. I know from experience.

Paying subscribers, some of them here, maintaining a daily blog for 10 months of the year, every inch of head space put into eking out any profits at all. I don’t do it anymore, burnt out and results were suffering so absolutely more a casual personal interest but now with actual cycling training and racing added in. has meant less time looking at any football generally and I find myself behind the curve in certain player moves.

I've done so much FPL research on the plane...even without wifi! I remember I was on WC but had a few days till deadline. Took hundreds of screenshots of players fixtures and forms and multiple variations of my team, just so I could research it mid flight!

Has anyone seen the matrix doing the rounds on the probability of where you are likely to finish based on your current rank and last year's data?

It is a really interesting take on things.

I am currently around the 500k OR mark and my probability on finishing positions looks like

    Top 10k - 0%
    Top 50k - 6%
    Top 100k - 14%
    Top 500k - 69%
    Top 1M - 92%

I was really on the brink of pulling the WC in the 1st GW of the New Year but held off due to loads of rotation concerns & who I wanted not being available.

Look at this data, I really feel I am going to have to mix things up, an early WC is definitely happening now , however with triple Liverpool already (TAA,Salah & Mane) - do I wait until after the DGW or do I go now.

Ultimately even after that GW, I think I will be owning those 3 players and worse case it will be 2 Defenders (TAA & another) + Mane or Salah. So I could pull the trigger anyway and alter those 3 players around at a later date.

    Current team is

    Ryan (Martin)

    TAA Soy Lundy Kelly Dunk

    Salah Mane KdB Moura Cantwell

    Vardy Jiminez (Greenwood)

I would be happy enough to go without Vardy, Jiminez, Moura, Dunk, Kelly, Soy and Lundy and potentially Ryan.

I think I need to go to the WC thread :)

Nothing wrong with that team. If I had that team, not sure I'd even make a transfer this week nevermind WCing! Soy and Vardy still have good fixtures, not sure why you'd be getting rid. Leicester are one of the best teams in the league, they just played the only teams better than them.

Jimi is worth holding for another two GWs at least and he and Wolves are also well capable of getting points against the big teams. Maybe move him on at GW24. Lundy is certainly worth holding, you wont get anywhere near the same points potential at that price from another defender.

Brighton have decent fixtures so worth holding at least one of Dunk and Ryan, could change one to cover another defence and spread the risk. Kelly probably makes sense to get rid of, two tough games now and Ward should be back soon. Palace fixtures turn after that so could be a good idea to have a Palace defender then, I have my eye on Ward, particularly if he drops in price again before he returns.

Yes I agree with what you are saying but the reason I'm thinking of WC is to maximise it's value and potentially look to go against the template (I know you need to keep some of them like Vardy who could be a rank killer). Leicester play Chelsea, Wolves & City after Liverpool's DGW so could punt on no Vardy then.

We've seen it happen before where newly promoted teams start really strong & then peeter off towards the end. Moving Lundy could be a risk but I'm comfortable with that, particularly if I have double Liverpool defence. I'm also looking at Kolasinac now as he is very advanced in the way Arteta set up v United, so if I'm outlaying that much on 3 defenders I'll be scrimping on the other 2 so downgrading to a Watford player & Williams of Utd (who will play more).

I'm gonna have to give this more thought.

Quick look and a change of

    Lundstram -- Williams
    Kelly --- Masuaku / Zabaleta
    Dunk --- Kolasinac
    Soy --- Kiko Femenia

leaves me with TAA/Kolasinac & one of the other 3 every week

    Lucas Moura ---- Traore

    Vardy ---- Aguero
    Jimi --- Maupay
    Greenwood -- DCL

gives me an attack of Salah, Mane, KdB, Aguero with 3 of Traore, Maupay, Cantwell & DCL every week.

Aguero captain would be a huge differential over the next few weeks.

    That's a very big call.

Personally I'd be nervous about the amount of time he gets.

I was very surprised that he didn't get the nod over Jesus for Wolves and Everton and possibly even Leicester (although you could argue fitness levels for that one)

    Well that's a bit extreme.

Aguero currently has the same amount of goals as Salah and 1 less than Mane. He is 10 PL goals this season.

He started the season scoring in 6 straight games.

Like mentioned, it could be argued that his fitness is the reason he didnt start over Christmas. I do think Pep will priortise the Champions League but that is not til March. By prioritising he will need to get Aguero up to speed. I can see Aguero playing more then Jesus.

On the flip side he is capable of hitting the 2 & 3 goals a game more so then Mane & Salah and should he be rested you always have the VC and a sub to come in.

If I do bring him in, it is for C reason (with the exception of DGW24 when it is Salah)

leaves me with TAA/Kolasinac & one of the other 3 every week

Lucas Moura ---- Traore could go either way but I don't see the attraction in having Traore beyond the next two GWs

Vardy ---- Aguero could go either way
Jimi --- Maupay downgrade, Jimi has two great fixtures now, if you have him you have to hold for them
Greenwood -- DCLdefinite upgrade but even then all you are getting is DCL!

My thoughts in bold. Out of all those potential transfers, very few of them look like upgrades to me. Greenwood to DCL the clearest upgrade but getting DCL as your biggest extravagance on WC is like winning the lotto and treating yourself to a Duster imo.

He got the nod over Jesus for Wolves but was withdraw after 10 minutes when Ederson got sent off. He started the next game v Sheff Utd and scored.

Aguero for a punt if you're looking to make ground? Sure why not. But longer term Kane or Auba are probably the better picks. But short-term, with good fixtures and before the CL starts back, yeah I can see the argument for Aguero

Appreciate your feedback and I agree on the defenders downgrade. However I'm not planning on using 2 defenders and they become fodder who I feel will get more game time due to form/injuries.

Kolasinac - I think is an upgrade on Dunk due to where his positioning was v Utd. Aside from that I already have Ryan in goals.

I'm swapping out Traore who has matched Jiminez points wise since the beginning of December. He looks to be in much better form and looked a real threat v Liverpool & City.

The basis of WC is to establish a differential and try to gain ground - Aguero v Vardy is where this is at and on top of this I feel Aguero has more captain potential over Vardy over the next 8 GWs (which brings us up to the return of the CL).

    My WC is basically

    Aguero over Vardy
    Maupay over Lucas Moura
    Traore over Jiminez
    Kolasinac over Dunk
Then a cheapie over Lundstram or Soy

Do you really need a wildcard on the basis of creating differentials? Each free transfer could be one.

Also on that list of chances how many players at this point, sitting way worse than their ambition in ranking, begin swinging at differentials only to find it turning against them or just give up? It might skew the predicted chances of each end ranking somewhat. Were the 6% who outdid the rest in rank recovery changing things up or choosing their players as part of their normal game plan? Hard to quantify.
