    Anyone else?

I just tried downloading email via Outlook 2016 - it tried to and then the password box appeared. I inputted the details, but no joy.

I then tried online via my iPhone. I know the details are correct because I access simply by fingerprint. Again, no joy.

I no longer have an Eir/Eircom account. I haven't had in years.

The email address is a hangover from when I had one.

    I haven't changed any settings.

Anyone else having an email problem?

    Thanks.

    D.

    Ps,

Just had online chat with Eir support.

They want the landline number associated with the email account.

I've had the account for about 25 years. I have no idea what the landline number was when I set it up.

    Oh, dear....

I remember you have been advised to get rid of this BS service while ago.
Sooner you start fading it away, less painful it'll be.

    Hi Smuggler,

    Thanks as always.

    1. What's the best way to migrate my contacts to a new address?

    2. For a sole trader, is a gmail.com address (which I already have) an OK alternative?

    Thanks again.

I have had intermittent log in problems with my eir email accounts.
They usually disappear after a day or so.

Eircom (Eir) webmail working again this morning.

But, not via Outlook. As with the last time, I had to do a system restore to activate it.

Why the SR makes it work and manually inputting the settings doesn't is beyond me.

But, I really must wean myself off my eircom.net email address.

No just purchase a domain and pay a few quid a year for email hosting. I can never understand why companies use eircom gmail etc. for less than €100 per annum you could have a proper online identity.

I have a website and I pay for hosting (register365.com - I also have various domain names registered thro' them)

There is the option to add email addresses to my domain name.

Have never done it - probably, through sheer inertia. I think I will now.

    Thanks.

You're really better off ..and sooner rather than later, one day you will go to log into Eircom and the service will have been completely pulled. I've seen it happen to users of other legacy services. Losing valuable contacts, emails, photos etc.. that weren't backed up elsewhere.

    Did it.

Now to work out the best way to wean everyone off my eircom.net address and onto the new email!

    Thanks.

see if you can set up forwarding on the eircom address to your new domain and just start replying from the new address would be a start.

    Must check that out.

Is that something I would do within eir.ie or within register365 who are hosting my new email address?

    Thanks!

    It does.

The instructions on this link apply to Eir also.

    Sorted now.

    Many thanks!
