The lack of empathy didn't just stop with the accused. The AGS visited one of the families to give them advise on what to say publicly. There was a risk of umm, disturbances locally, just after the murder.

    Disturbances?

They were possibly sent on WhatsApp, or something similar, which automatically saves the images to the photo album in the phone.

Was it 12,000? Seems a bit much.

Mod: No. Anything that identifies the perpetrators or the family will result in an immediate permanent ban, evading court bans are illegal and we simply can't have that here. This applies until the court lifts the ban.

    PM requests get the same.

    Disturbances?

Local groups of teens looking to kick seven shades out of the two boys.

    I

It's ok to feel sorry for all 3 families

It is, I agree, but he hasn't lost his son and seems to still be vehemently defending him which is absolutely shocking behaviour and no wonder he has turned out the way he is.

Utterly sociopathic. And of course tweets of support from her vile pals. I may get animated over misogyny but I still ****ing despise those kinds of feminists (and more interested in pushing an agenda than keeping quiet out of respect for Ana? How "sisterly"). Nice save.

    She's doubling down now.

Thousands of images in the day of always on internet and streaming? There is a chance I'm very out of touch though.

Im sure its common enough tbh. The kids would be passing them round to each other on social media.

Its not like the old days where kids were passing round a dog eared bad photocopy of the middle pages of Playboy.

Its not easy for the parents of the accused either, 3 families have lost there children to this case,

I'm sure in the cold light of day there parents will realise justice has been done but im not surprised by an emotional outburst that father has also just lost his son ,

RIP to Ana and hopefully her family have some kind of comfort in justice,

    Sorry but WTF.
One family have lost their lovely daughter forever.
She is dead and she died a horrific death being assaulted and battered by two scrotes who could live a long life.

And after seeing the behaviour of the other parents then my sympathy is zero for them.
The physical evidence against boy A was overwhelming yet they forced a trial to drag out the hurt for Ana's family.
And the lies from boy B.

They get to visit their kids, they get to talk to them and in less than 10 years they will be out to continue their lives.

They don't have to go to a graveyard to visit them.

The father of Boy B deserves a slap and someone to shove a picture of poor Ana's lifeless body right in front of his eyes to tell him what his innocent boy helped do.

I am not allowed discuss …

I would love to see the stellar way some posters on here would obviously behave if they found themselves in the same situation as the boys' parents.
Oh don't be so snide. It's in poor taste. There is the objective and the subjective. Critics of the parents are looking at things objectively, which is also valid, and while they don't know what they'd do, it's not about them. Objectively, their behaviour was wrong. Especially the father's outburst.

Feck the whataboutery. The devil doesn't need an advocate.

In a way the families of both boys have lost their sons - they are going to prison for a long time with I’m sure limited visiting rights and they won’t be the same people when they get back out.

It’s ok to feel sorry for the families of the perpetrators - they are as much victims of their sons as Ana was and they are suffering too.

    Just heard the verdict.
Delighted. Two conniving evil little b******.
Only admitted anything that the Gardai found out.
They seemed to actually enjoy the Garda interrogation and the trial.
    Pure evil.
    Rot in Hell.

The two of them were so obviously guilty so it's a very welcome verdict.

Not so much Boy B, I can see why he would have taken his chance in court.

Boy A was 100% guilty given the evidence and unless I missed something didn't actually put up a defense.

Bizarre he didn't plead guilt and repent, given life is not mandatory for children.

I would be astonished if that wasn't the legal advice he was given.

Without it even being presented in evidence, it was obvious from the reported proceedings that this horror was influenced by things they had seen on the internet.

You cant say a thing like that becaue its all cool no harm what so ever and anyone with the opnion that porn might be harmfull just wants the nanny state dont you know or else they are repressed religious freaks.

    Unbelievably common unfortunately.

I know yeah. Thats the sad part.
The thing is, some of the searches go back to 2017 so the boys possible could have been as young 11 when they were accessing this stuff!!!

As an aside, its 25 years today since Ireland beat Italy at the World Cup and this is what my youth was made up of - When I was 13 years old i was kicking ball out on the road with my friends. Coming off as an old fogie, but I thank my lucky stars I was a child of the 80's. I feel sorry for kids nowadays in a lot of ways.

These behaviours are learned, and it's not a switch that's flicked suddenly, parents often see the signs but do nothing, why? Maybe they hope the problem will just go away, maybe they hope someone else will take care of it, maybe it's moral cowardice, but it's still an indictment on them as parents.

Probably never. Despite what they did they are children.

John Venables & Robert Thompson were named, albeit subsequently given new identities. I imagine if they are named then there may be attacks on the boys families such is the outrage of their actions. Again i doubt their parents raised them to be murderers but at the age of 13 one must question was it a stable background both came from to carry out such a barbaric act.

What is the sentence for murder where a juvenile is concerned? is it still the mandatory life sentence?

Read her reply to the Solidarity DW tweet - doubling down on her political point-scoring.

Parents have lost a child - but pushing her political ambitions is much more important to Ruth.

I took the word slander out of my post.

But you definitely accused me of something I never said or implied. That is pretty nasty behaviour as well as downright untrue. I have no idea why you would do that.

Here comes the outraged brigade. I didn't accuse you of anything. You posted about how people or parents would react in similar circumstances. I didn't agree, get over it!

I am not being snide. I am pointing out that none of us, myself included, know how we'd behave in similar circumstances. We like to think we'd behave in a certain way, but shock and horror can cause people to react in ways they would never have believed they would. I don't think all critics of the parents are looking at it objectively and I realise it is difficult to do so because it's such an emotive situation.

But none of us can say for certain that we wouldn't do everything in our power to defend our children in such circumstances, or refuse to believe that they would be capable of such a thing.

    Not really.

People can have mental illness and no matter how well brought up they are turn out to be bad eggs.

And some people grow up in terrible homes but are completely moral themselves.

Its not a direct cause and effect as you are making out.

No one's outraged. I am annoyed that you put words into my mouth and I have every right to be.

But I'm not engaging with you anymore, as you seem incapable of dealing with what was and wasn't said in posts and are filling in the gaps yourself.

What kind of world are we living in where kids that young are capable of such atrocities. What they did deserves no less than life in prison, their age is irrelevant, old enough to know exactly it was that they were doing. If there is a hell, there's a special place reserved for them.
