Picking some lettuce this afternoon, and found a number of bugs on my lettuces

Does anyone know what it is?

New to gardening so sorry if this a very simple question

Looks like a type of capsid beetle to me.

It's a shield bug of some sort. There's hundreds of different ones, see here for some examples

It could be a brown marmorated stink bug (halyomorpha halys), recently introduced to Ireland, unfortunately. Catch it, if you can, and contact Biodiversity Ireland for identification, provided you are based in Ireland. Watch out, though, they're called stinkbugs for a reason!

EDIT: Actually, now that I look at it better, I don't think it is: the black bands on its abdomen would have a lighter line in the middle, which they don't.
