    Hi,

We're electricity customers at our current home, but are moving home in a couple of weeks and want to sign up for a dual fuel account at our new home (with Nest thermostat installation)

Whats the best way to go about this? I know we can close our existing account online, and simply switch our existing account to the new home also, but what about changing tariffs and adding gas/Nest?

    Hi therecklessone,

Many thanks for your interest in Electric Ireland.

Is your most recent Electric Ireland contract finished? We just ask because if not, this contract would need to be transferred to your new address.

If you are not in a contract, however, you can close your account when you move out by taking a meter-reading on your final day and completing the following form.

Also, before moving into your new home, request the electricity meter point reference number (MPRN) and gas point reference number (GPRN) from e.g. the property owner or vendor or agency, and if possible check which provider the property is registered with. On your first day at your new home, take note of the meter-readings, then complete the form for the relevant offer in the middle of this page immediately if you can.

We advise doing so immediately as a property can be disconnected due to vacant premises if there is a sufficient "gap" between registrations (a letter is sent out, but sometimes this letter can be sent before the next person moves in) and a number of days is needed for the online registration to take place (registering online is the way to avail of the best offer though).

If the property is already with Electric Ireland, private message us here on Boards.ie if you like (after you have completed your online registration) with your MPRN, GPRN, name, and address, and we can check the status of the vacant property. The Sales team will complete your online registration as soon as they reach it.

If the property is with another provider and you have found out who they are, contact them to let them know that you are taking over the property, just in case there is a vacant premises letter on its way from them.

None of the above may be an issue but we just need to make you aware in case there is a crossover.

We hope this helps - please let us know if you have any follow-up questions though.

    Kind regards,
    Una
