Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

From the Save Greystones Fishing Fleet facebook page
It appears BJ Marine, SISK the developers, Greystones Marine Services and Wicklow County Council are standing shoulder to shoulder on hindering our right to earn a living from our home harbour.
We the fishermen from Greystones have tried every option available to come to a workable solution over the last 10 years and have only been fed lies, met with non sensical options, rediculous hoops to jump through and a total restriction on being able to operate our businesses.
This is why this Saturday you will see the fishermen from Greystones stand side by side with some of our friends in the fishing comunity from neigbouring harbours.
From early morning we will be blockading the harbour.
It will be the first of many if needs be.
We are inviting the local comunity to meet on mass at 12pm to show the powers that be that we are not alone in wanting our towns heritage to be kept alive.
Our request has always been simple.
That we be left alone and to be provided with the facilities we were promised from the start. To enable us to conduct our business in a clean and efficient manner.
We are looking for this asurance in writing.
We know that with the local communitys support together we can make this happen.

The action on Saturday is in no way an attack on the leisure users of the harbour and should not be viewed as one. In fact we are seeking their support.
The sooner we get a reolution to this the sooner the inconveniences are over with.

We hope to see you all this Saturday and as always.
Thanks for your support thus far!

Also available in Wonka vision on the greystones guides, here :D

This issue is all over Greystones Guide and the Open Forum, but what is actually the problem? In that, I see lots of "we were lied to" and "we want to conduct our work safely" posts, but there isn't any explanation of what exactly is happening for those that aren't familiar with the situation. What has happened and what are they protesting?

    Hi,

    Our Story
    7 MAY
Greystones has a long and unbroken tradition as a fishing community since before the historical record began until the commencement of development of the harbour in 2007. Fishing has long been a way of life and source of income and food for local families.
Unfortunately, this is now under threat as a combination of factors mean that fishermen and their boats are currently being prohibited from returning to fish out of Greystones harbour due to untenable conditions, fees, restraints and privatisation of the public amenity.
We would like to raise awareness of this situation in our community and to ask for your support to keep fishing boats in Greystones where they belong. We hope this page can let you know who we are, what we do, the history of our fisheries and what we need in order to continue to fish in Greystones.
We take much pride in the traditions of the community before us and in the resourcefulness and kindness of those still around us. We are young, local families, with small businesses trying to make a living and create jobs. Despite opposition, we believe that fishing can continue to grow in the town, and we feel that if we do not make a stand to preserve this existing industry and heritage now, it will be gone for good. Please feel free to get in touch! Thank you.

Thought I would put this here as there is a protest on tomorrow and we are trying to get as much support as possible.

To sum up, Greystones had always a fishing fleet. Harbour was in a mess and needed to be upgraded. Work began in 2007 and the fisherman were assured they would be able to use the new harbour once complete. Now they are locked out of it. Pure greed IMO.

Grumpy Cat (RIP) would have been very much in favour of fishing trawlers at Greystones Harbour.

Jaysus if it's not fish in Greystones, it's trees in Shankill and election posters in Killiney.

Where's Joe Duffy when you need him?

Seems fair enough (the protest that is), berths were promised and not given and it's costing the fisherman having to travel further away from their fishing grounds.

Seems to be at odds with this

Moorings facilities have also been provided within the harbour for commercial fishermen and negotiations are ongoing in relation to the allocation of same.

    How is it "greed"?

They've been asked to pay mooring fees and refused.
Did they get it for free before ?

Thread should be renamed to "Save a commercial business from increased commercial costs".
