Maybe she should go in to a Christian bakery and demand a homosexual themed cake... She'd get a lot of support round these parts right?
I don't think she'd get much support for any of her stunts, when they are just that - stunts. Do you think she was really hanging for a sausage yesterday?

perhaps you can clarify on what grounds you think she was discriminated on by the halal butcher??

Gems or the posters on here who drop in with the usual bs and then disappear again when asked to back up their bs?

    Exactly.

And as pointed out on Twitter, it used to always be the case and is still not uncommon to keep pork and other types of meat separate. You'll see pork butcher shops and - for want of a better term - non-pork butcher shops.

So the one in Swords is actually following Irish tradition.

Thats some serious reaching right there.

Perhaps you can point to where I stated she was discriminated against?

you drew an equivalence with a case in the north where somebody was discriminated on the basis of their sexuality so presumably you think Gemma was discriminated against. or what that just another strawman from you?

If she had walked in and they refused to serve her because she wasn't Muslim or whatever, then she would have had a case. Complaining because a shop that specialises in a particular thing doesn't sell something else is ridiculous. It would be like me going into an Apple store and badgering the staff because they won't sell me a Surface Pro.

In fairness I’ve come across idiots like these before .. and they are on a par with auld Gems for being painful to listen to.

I was in the Apple store in NY and some fruitcake wearing a mine craft t-shirt was giving it socks to some poor apple employee about hove the SurfaceBook was leagues ahead of the new MacBook Pro especially cos of the touch screen ... there was that familiar high pitched squeal asking obviously retarded rhetorical questions

I thought she was anyway. I'm not 100% sure and could not care less about her personally. I just see few people obsessed with her saying she was

She’s running in fingal. You’re lucky to be unaware of it. Her campaign literature is quite something to behold.

    Yeah... but he's right.
“That’s the way it was; butchers sold meats separately. O’Gorman’s had a pork shop, too. In fact, there were a dozen if not more pork and butcher shops in Rathmines in those days, with enough business for everyone, too, even up to the early 1950s. Very few of the original shops, of any kind, are left around here now.”

Full article is here too if you fancy broadening your mind.

As drumsteve said there is no reaching required. Pork-only butcher shops were a thing when i was a kid. as were butchers that did not sell pork. Your lack of experience with these things does not make TaurenDruids post "a reach"

No, the case i the north was that the message they wanted on a cake was not in line with their views, they would serve them cake or anything else that did not contain a pro gay message. This is similar, the butcher shop is refusing to sell her a product they don’t agree with for religious reasons but not refusing to serve her. Its the exact same deal and gemma and those people who drove out of their way to cause problems in a bakery are just as bad as each other.

It's not the same, this butcher doesn't sell pork so physically can't sell pork to her, the cake shop up north sold cake with messages on them but didn't sell one with the message the lads wanted.

And the reason the butcher doesn’t sell pork and the reason the bakery doesn’t write pro gay messages on cakes are the same, religion. many butchers would order you a specific meat if you wanted, that halal butcher would not sell you pork just as a christian bakery would not sell you a gay marraige cake.

Its a free market and both establishments should be allowed to do what they like.

A halal butcher doesn't supply pork. You can't refuse a customer something you don't supply.
The bakery supplies icing for decorating cakes, but refused it.
    Where is the equivalence here?

I eagerly await Gemma's follow up video where she goes to the local Chinese take away and castigates them for not selling breakfast rolls.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,656 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Anyone got a link to this video of her going into the halal butchers, cant see it on her Twitter. Also any pics of her campaign literature going into letterboxes? Election day is going to be some comedown for her when she gets roundly rejected, even when that happens I think she is too deluded to realise that Ireland doesnt want or need a political party based on racism.

And christian bakeries dont supply pro gay cakes...

Both are products not available at present but could easily be ordered from suppliers already dealt with and delivered to the customer but refursed on religious grounds.

In the case of the baker they could supply the cake but choose not to. The only difference to cakes they do supply is the wording used on the cake. in the case of the halal butcher they do not supply that product at all.
