Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Jaysus some track evolution through Q1!

Stroll woeful there and out already with Perez up in 6th! Questions to be asked in Racing Point....

Not looking good for Red Bull this weekend, car looks a handful.
Leclerc looking solid for Ferrari but Merc seem to be way out in front.

  • Registered Users Posts: 890 ✭✭✭seamusk84

Sorry to see the Hulk out in Q2. And Kimi, did not expect that!

Gasly needs to be up in p6 at the end of this session...way of Verstappen.

Come on Ferrari, make it interesting for ya tomorrow!

Behind Mercedes some interesting results, nicely mixed up mid field.

Vettel nowhere. Issues with his gearbox?

    Great showing from McLaren.

Usual story on the front row...Bloody hell

Great qualifying from Mclaren. Great to see the team doing well considering the rough times recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,515 ✭✭✭recyclebin

Great for McLaren. Getting better as season progresses which hasn't been happening in a long time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,515 ✭✭✭recyclebin

Vettel must be having car troubles. Could see a grid drop if he needs to change something.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,686 ✭✭✭Charlie-Bravo

Good job by McLaren today. Norris really showing his worth alongside an experienced driver.

The Renault aero-chassis versus the McLaren aeri-chassis, I think McLaren have the better.

    Brilliant stuff from McLaren.

They had been looking fast but didn't think they'd be that good. Will be a nice battle with Red Bull and Renault.

Now that Seb is stuck in the mix with the Ferrari we may see something exciting at the beginning.

I'd love Russell in an actual F1 car. Himself vs. Perez would be interesting. But naturally thats never going to happen :(

I think Russel will get a chance eventually.

Very talented driver and has the draw of the British market.

When Hamilton does step away a Russel v Norris battle could emerge down the years for Britain's number 1

I've reached the stage where i ignore the fight for the lead and concentrate on the midfield, which should be entertaining in this race. Hopefully the coverage reflects that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,905 ✭✭✭Joeface

nice mix from 3rd back . should make the opening interesting . Good Qual from Mclaren but some how I don't see them holding it for the race Might be good race ...but that gets said by me every race weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,951 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

Pretty predictable at the front, granted behind that its very interesting.

If Bottas doesn't up the game tomorrow and it ends like it looks, then that's 2019 wrapped up.

Giovinazzi did good by qualifying 10th.

    Horrific stuff.
Thankfully I didn’t waste my time watching the qualifying, definitely won’t watch the race. The only saving grace was Mclaren.

Great stuff from Mclaren. Good to see them doing well and making progress. Norris done brilliant. A pity Bottas could no beat Lewis when it mattered. The race in the midfield should be interesting.
Vettel just seems not to be all there. Maybe he will perform better in the race.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Been watching the Sky pre race build up since 12.30, good god it’s bad. Such a shame that Ch4 have been relegated to highlights, it really is. Sky have been awful for F1, truly awful, in every aspect of fandom.

While in general I agree, the coverage hasn't a patch on C4. But I really enjoyed the segment with Lando analysing his lap with Davidson. He went into lots of great detail

Bit of a snooze fest so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,638 ✭✭✭deafroadrunner

    Very boring race alright.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

So Perez follows the rules and gets penalised anyway..... Jesus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,759 ✭✭✭Inviere

This is horrendous, this track is firmly in the Sochi league, ie, not fit for purpose.

Not sure what Perez could have done differently there either, seems harsh.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Kvyat doing his best to give us some racing. Everything else is an exercise in tyre management

    :D

Yep, crossing now into unwatchable territory. This is happening all too often now in F1. I still don’t blame Merc, they’re just outstanding at what they do. The other teams have had years now to catch up, and still haven’t, despite largely stable regulations over the years.

There’s no simple solution to this, but it’s a real problem.

    Turn on the track sprinklers.

I think I'm just going to watch highlights from now. Watching on F1TV live, and it means 2 hours of my Sunday is gone (although I did get out of having to do a shop!)

  • Registered Users Posts: 467 ✭✭17larsson

Now TV is getting unsubscribed for the Summer. I'm not paying to watch this anymore

Has Gasly been lapped as well? That guy needs to pull his socks up big time or he's not long for that seat.

Need rain to make a F1 race anyway exciting.

Sitting here feeling the same, nearly 4 hours of my day gone (build up and race), it’s just not worth it :( though knowing me, the race I don’t watch live will be a corker

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

Ah crap, Norris is suffering major hydraulic problems. Hopefully he can nurse it to the end, would be a shame if he doesn't score points after a really solid weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,759 ✭✭✭Inviere

6th place just under a minute to 1st place.

Grosjean out. Had him 12/1 as first retiree. Woohoo. At least im making money from these races!

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

They cut away from the 4 way fight for 7th to show a half hearted attempt of an overtake from Leclerc on Bottas. Formula 1 WTF man?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,759 ✭✭✭Inviere

Slightly naughty there from Daniel, you can’t race with all four wheels off the track.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,515 ✭✭✭recyclebin

Definite penalty for Ricciardo for that. Will finish 10th I'd say.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,292 ✭✭✭Adamocovic

    Very dull race today.

Slight bit excitement on last lap but not really enough.
Norris did well and was so unlucky.

Of course it ends with another penalty/investigation. Big fan of Dani but hard to see stewards not penalising him after this week.

If they don't there will be complaints about consistency again, if they do more talk about penalties.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭skipper_G

    That was frustrating to watch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,971 ✭✭✭✭PopePalpatine

I gave up on the race after lap 30 to watch the Ulster final, only checked back in for the fight for the fastest lap bonus.

  • Registered Users Posts: 890 ✭✭✭seamusk84

    That was a dire race....

What do youse think can be done to make it more exciting or competitive?

Budget cap and better prize money distribution for starters. It's a money championship that means 70% of the grid can't even compete for a podium. And something needs to be done about tyres, today was another race with people nursing tyres to avoid doing 2 stops.
