Anyone know what happened John Deasy in Waterford tonight?

A FG members meeting unanimously passed a vote of “No confidence” in him.

    Anyone know why?

Bad enough being from Waterford without accusing the man of being a Corkonian.

Id imagine its because hes done fcuk all ever (pretty sure he set the record for least amount of talk time last 2 dails)

Also.councillor damien geoghanan (spelling!)....has huge powerbase in dungarvan and wants to push for the dail....so trying to oust him

Why does this government need a "special envoy to Washington"? (Irish Examiner article above). Do we not have diplomats there?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

In full agreement. If Deasy wants to be a diplomat and join the canapé circuit he should apply for a job at the Department of Foreign Affairs. His job is to be a legislator and to represent his constituency in Leinster House. It was a bizzare decision to allow him swan off to DC.

Apparently, Ireland's push for special visa treatment for 'our undocumented' over and above other countries (of which Deasy was a part) annoyed many on the Hill. Ireland's interests in the US go way beyond lads that went over to hurl in Chicago for a summer and didn't bother going home. Burning up good-will on such an issue was and is a complete nonsense.

Has this ever happened a sitting td before or is this the first time ever?

Also, this'll really put Dungarvan on the map.

He has been an absentee landlord of a TD. The so called job in the States is clearly more suited to a senior civil servant - someone attached to the Embassy, rather than a serving elected politician.

His envoy sabbatical had apparently "achieved real results."

Such as ____, and ____, in conjunction with ___.

I know nothing about the workings of FG in Waterford and the bad blood that exists there, but he's achieved the square root of f*ckall in DC thus far.

The local members have decided who they want as their election candidate for Waterford in the next election. It's a tough ask to land two seats down there for FG, even with strong vote management. Deasy is being pushed to the curb. That's politics.

Thing is deasy has the surest seat of probably any TD in the dail (fcuk knows why)....he tops poll reguarly......now party could split as geohghan and brazil would split each others vote and their supporters wouldnt vote for the other

It appears there's bullying allegations surrounding this one.

Taoiseach says he intends to deal with claims of bullying in Waterford Fine Gael

First the insurance controversy, then this?

The fine gael party, is it in self destruct mode or what?

Enda, tall tales and all, wouldn't have been long putting an end to all this fcukerty going on.

Leo truly is out of his depth, lack of leadership going on here.

So many FG reports lately, they must be top notch reporters at this stage.maybe they'll try to start some type of internal newspaper since they've undoubtedly been banned from reading the indo forever more.

Enda and Deasy did not get on.
He fired Deasy as spokesman for justice when he lit up in the Dail in 2004.

Then the most he ever gave him was membership of a committee and this is son of high ranking ex minister, and poll topper in constituency.
Then again daddy was bit of shyte stirrer as well.

Deasy has always been a shtyehawk.

I am not allowed discuss …

Yeah he sounds like the perfect victim if you were looking for someone to bullying so.

Every few weeks now there's another FG bad news story. The sign of a government on its last legs. If it carries on like this between now and election time, FF will be a shoo in to top the seat numbers. At the moment it's close between the two of them. Hard to call.

Not really. It's par for the course with FF/FG except the wheels come of FG sooner because they've nothing past 'we're better than FF were near the end the last time they were in'. FG/FF have no vision. It's about getting in and trying to stay in but balancing keeping the plebs placated while making dough for pals.

The voted no confidence in the wrong TD... what about that Varadkar chap... Murphy... Bailey... Farrell... Deasy may be living it up in DC but at least he's not positively making things worse :)

Deasy played the game well, rode us & moved on.

He did but at the same time was quite selfish in ruining a family name.
