As the silly season ends in political circles, and we move into September, any ongoing investigations into Trump, associated legal battles and Congressional impeachment processes need to be put on high heat and brought to the boil. The next three months are critical to get any/all illegality underpinning his 'empire' out into the open and put before the people so that they are fully informed for the 2020 election cycle.

This farce has gone on long enough! It's past time to bring the shutters down on this lunacy that is the Republican White House, and restore some semblance of a properly functioning democratic republic to the United States.

It's good that you include the word Republican in this. As someone said, Donald Trump is not the cause of the Republican party going authoritarian and racist - he's the effect of it.

And he's not even racist enough for some people ...

There was talk in Fire and Fury about the goal being that when he loses the election, Hannity, Maher and others starting up a station to the right of Fox.

Think OANN might have taken that place

Hannity, Carlson et al seem to be slowly becoming personas non grata at Fox, given those recent spats causing their shows to go off the air, or advertisers jumping ship. Certainly Carlson wildly misjudged the mood with his manufactured "white supremacy is a myth" screed - even if it likely played with some demographics.

If Trump Broadcasting does happen in the near future, which according to rumour was the original plan in the wake of a failed Presidential run, what's the bets he & his write big cheques to persuade every right-wing demagogue from Fox, Brietbart et al to present on this new network?

Someone was interviewed on Fox "spewing out whatever [they] wanted with zero pushback by anchor".

    Projection, projection, projection.

Trump's only annoyed it wasn't him.

How isn't trump going to go on trial the minute he steps out of office? Unless we get the Pence switcheroo.

I would say that if that did happen and Trump TV did get on the air, its accounts would be very heavily scrutinised

I can't remember which poster it was who posted a link to the CNN article where they went through some of trumps bizarre statements. I used to read them but stopped and read the G-7 one. Good god the guys mind is like a lawnmower engine that needs a good service.

    An interesting development.

Trump always threatens - will he follow through?

legal proceedings could be pursued if there's no retraction or apology for stating that "Russian oligarchs" co-signed loans to Trump.
Well this will be a fairly simple one to litigate - either they did and Lawrence O'Donnell has evidence of it, or they didn't.

Since this was obviously going to trigger a lawsuit, I cannot imagine NBC lawyers OKing this story if there is no evidence.

He's looking for a retraction and apology from NBC. If none is forthcoming then there is evidence.

He'll have to prove its false, which means showing them to someone.

Plus I think LOD has himself covered. He stressed dozens of times it was a single source.

Bring forth the trial and the discovery please

No way will he take this to court. As Serfboard said, this was passed by NBC lawyers. There has to be substance. Happy day!

Good luck proving defamation or libel in the US. It's not Ireland/UK. Extremely difficult to prove, and as duplo said, the discovery phase would be awesome.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,825 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

I agree that NBC for whatever trump and his allies will claim, would have all this cleared before LOD said it on air. Single source regardless these lads aren't some upstart news organisation. Also, trump had a show on NBC for years so surely he must know how that ship is run.

Looks like a rare error on LOD's part!

    Correction airing tonight.

    Disappointing stuff.

    Damn!

Still think he's covered given the amount of caveats used.

Big climb down regardless for someone of his calibre

Not only that, but something Don and his supporters can now refer to anytime to deflect and blame his detractors. Half-arsed attempts to expose him will only make him stronger and it's ridculous they went with this.

I kind of agree with you but to be fair, they don't need admissions of error to crucify "liberals"

Of course, thanks to this journalistic F up, it plays straight into Trump & his base's siege mentality that the media are out to get him. It doesn't matter whether he retracted the claim or showed any contrition, it's a colossal own goal for journalistic standards. When the sitting President is actively trying to undermine the press' credibility, they need to remain beyond reproach.

He seems to have turned on Fox

    What’s the play here

That’s where he seems to get his opinions from and no he’s renounced them as his mouthpiece and shield

And HOW is this going to play out among his base?? Where will they get their daily feed of don’t look up just eat the propaganda

    This is mad.

    Anyone know?

Maybe he already knows he is not going to be POTUS from 2020. Thus start weaning his followers away from Fox to Trump TV.
